HomeAway have got in touch as they are eager to know what Mumsnetters think makes the dream holiday property. Perhaps it’s all about the city centre location, or a close proximity to a beach. Maybe a big kitchen is important for you to have some relaxed holiday meals or is a barbeque something you look for? Is suitable décor important? Is a private pool or hot tub a must for you and your family? Maybe you travel with pets and find that rental properties are the only way in which you and your companions are able to soak in the sun.

Here’s what HomeAway have to say: ‘HomeAway has over 2 million properties around the world, including villas, cottages, beach houses, tree houses, mountain cabins and even castles! We specialise in offering the whole house and in providing properties suitable for families. In many cases, you can save a lot of money by booking a private home and you get more space and flexibility than hotels or resorts. We have millions of happy guests who return each year to book their holiday property and we’d love to help Mumsnetters find their own perfect match’

Whether your preference is for somewhere rural and isolated or central and bustling, HomeAway wants to know exactly what makes you tick.

Take a look at their website and post a link to your preferred property on the thread below - and don’t forget to tell us why it caught your eye!

Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

This place in Sardinia - beautiful house, mountain views and a pool. Looks heavenly!

The landscape looks gorgeous!

I'm rather disappointed MNHQ have taken the HomeAway shilling as there have been threads in the past about the poor practices of this company both from MNetters who have booked using them or have rental properties.

On Trustpilot, there are 1239 reviews of which 61% rate them the lowest grade, which is "Bad" and 4% as "Poor". So that's almost 2/3 of reviews rating them very negatively. On Sitejabber (US site), it is even worse with 89% of people giving the company just 1 star out of 5.

This one. Being a single parent I look for smaller properties and this one looks small but perfect, right on the beach too which is a must.

because I really want to take my kids to the place I love most in the world - and visit my old haunts - I lived there in my 20's

Oh this is literally my favourite hobby! We have had some great holidays booked with Homeaway and I love looking for future holidays.
I would love to go on holiday with extended family next year and think that this villa in Altea, (short hop, good flights, walking distance to restaurants, views and pool )with separate apartment for my mum and dad would be perfect.

I chose this amazing house: www.homeaway.co.uk/p1076685vb

Anna Maria Island is my happy place - all stresses instantly melt away when I'm there. I could have all my family around me too, a great reunion as we all started together in Florida but are now dispersed across the UK and US.

EscapeTheCastle · 03/04/2018 16:32

I like the look of this Villa in Majorca.

Lots of room and lots of pool to match!

I always check for air conditioning, internet and shady spots in the garden.
I am genuinely surprised by how many destinations are covered by HomeAway.

I have been looking for a last adventure. I love solo travelling and been to African countries (camping), India, USA, Thailand, Cambodia all done on super tight budgets and lots of saving. I lost my work and driving licence because of a rare neurological and an even rarer eye condition and if I don't go away this year I won't be able to any longer. But, I can't afford it, so am having to make do with dreams.

I immediately searched for Botswana as I loved it there, the tranquility and magnificent wildlife, amazing people and stunning surroundings. The best I can ever afford is a tent, so a place like this would, to me, be the most luxurious place I've ever been.

Close to our family in Cornwall, no need to get on a plane with the kids and so close to the sea and beach!

dadshere · 03/04/2018 21:49

www.homeaway.co.uk/p8513545 in Barcelona- with a pool, perfect!

Amanduh · 03/04/2018 22:11

www.homeaway.co.uk/p1597122a love the pool, the space and the location. Great modern decor. All amenities. Room for everyone and something special!

Olliver27 · 04/04/2018 02:18

This one looks amazing... www.homeaway.co.uk/p2644478. Private sauna and gorgeous interior. I've wanted to visit Berlin for a long time and this one is pet friendly so we wouldn't need to worry about leaving the little ones at home Smile

This 5 bedroom 3 bathroom villa in Lake Berkley Orlando is a winner for me! Perfect for 2 families to get together and share while enjoying the holiday of a lifetime in Orlando. It has a great pool for everyone to enjoy and even a BBQ to ensure lots of family mealtimes too.

All 5 bedrooms are spacious and the 3 bathrooms would ensure no arguments in the morning over the shower and getting ready for the theme parks or some outlet shopping.

Just perfect!

It’s in one of my most favourite places with many happy memories. And just look at the views...
The villa isn’t too shoddy either

living the Switzerland dreams; just the best views in a modern yet cosy house

PorridgeAgainAbney · 04/04/2018 21:07

I'm not fussy, I just want to pull up to a cosy cottage with a car full of books and a boot full of food, put a load of logs on the fire and sit and watch the sea on a stormy weekend (while husband and son stay at home for a week)....heaven Smile.

fivekidsonemum · 05/04/2018 00:06

I've just found my dream holiday home !! If only i could afford the £4,100+ cost for a weeks stay for the 7 of us at PORTHMINSTER HOUSE ST IVES WITH INDOOR HEATED SWIMMING POOL.

By the beach & pretty harbour for fun with the 5 kids, private pool, ensuite master bedroom with balcony overlooking the sea, patio area for lounging in the sun - what more could you want, I'm longing now I really want to go! It sounds and looks amazing it's a perfect location and stunning property if only I won the lottery I'd hire it for weeks over the summer infact I'd ask if they wanted to sell me it as I'm in love with the property Grin

prakattack · 05/04/2018 12:05

So hard to narrow it down - so many places I want to visit! - but this one would do rather nicely...

www.homeaway.co.uk/p2608210

I just want to sit at that table for a week staring at the sea :)

I love Cornwall. It would be lovely to stay so close to the beach. My boys love the sea and whilst they’re young I’d rather holiday in the UK not too far from home

TellMeItsNotTrue · 06/04/2018 02:32

THIS apartment in Watford looks great, we've been wanting to do Harry Potter studios for a while so this would be perfect. It's not something I have considered before now, I was only thinking of chain hotels like Travelodge or premier Inn, but this gives me other options and we wouldn't all be crammed in to one room or having to eat out for every meal

joggingrunning · 06/04/2018 13:22

I would love to go here . It is so gorgeous and in a great city too!
