HomeAway have got in touch as they are eager to know what Mumsnetters think makes the dream holiday property. Perhaps it’s all about the city centre location, or a close proximity to a beach. Maybe a big kitchen is important for you to have some relaxed holiday meals or is a barbeque something you look for? Is suitable décor important? Is a private pool or hot tub a must for you and your family? Maybe you travel with pets and find that rental properties are the only way in which you and your companions are able to soak in the sun.

Here’s what HomeAway have to say: ‘HomeAway has over 2 million properties around the world, including villas, cottages, beach houses, tree houses, mountain cabins and even castles! We specialise in offering the whole house and in providing properties suitable for families. In many cases, you can save a lot of money by booking a private home and you get more space and flexibility than hotels or resorts. We have millions of happy guests who return each year to book their holiday property and we’d love to help Mumsnetters find their own perfect match’

Whether your preference is for somewhere rural and isolated or central and bustling, HomeAway wants to know exactly what makes you tick.

Take a look at their website and post a link to your preferred property on the thread below - and don’t forget to tell us why it caught your eye!

Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

This looks gorgeous. A whole house, neat location, elegant.

A rival to Air BnB eh. Well, there are some lovely properties on there. Will definitely use in future.

This is my ideal villa in an ideal location. Mountains, beach, sun.
The villa is clean and spacious with an outside area.
This is the kind villa I book. With 3 kids, it’s easier for us to be in a villa than a hotel.

my dream holiday would be a family break here at the Maldives www.homeaway.co.uk/p4571290. I chose this because it would be a magical experience, they pick you up from the airport, take you on a ferry, what a variety transport in one day ! With a private chef on site we would live and dine like royalty, it would be a holiday of a lifetime having lived in a new culture and seeing their traditions. Just need to book some return flights :)

Looks beautiful, and good for a getaway for 2.

PickAChew · 20/03/2018 19:36

This is rather lovely

Would love to visit the Scottish borders again, sometime, and this is roomy and lovely enough for us not to drive each other up the wall when we're stuck in out of the deluge that will happen for at least half the time we're there.

Wonderful view, beautiful country. Would love to visit Slovenia again.

I chose this one in Crete because I like the fact that it's practically on the beach!

This property in Antigua www.homeaway.co.uk/p414204, which is want with the chef service. Beautiful location!

Our honeymoon in Antigua was wrecked last year by Hurricane Irma, so it would be great to go back and actually get to see the island and enjoy it! We only had 3 days last year, so it was a long trip and a frightening experience.

This one on the greek islands...

You own private bay, lovely outdoor space, and literally on the beach so the kids can spend the day in the water/on the shoreline. I grew up on a warm coast, something my kids have never experienced, I'd love them to get a taste of that lifestyle so they could understand why it captured my heart

This really would be my idea of perfection (actually so much so have just sent the link to our friends for our summer holiday next year)

This is my dream, spacious, bright home on the Isle of Skye. Remote but not totally isolated from the island. My dream... Sigh!

I like this house, but not enough bedrooms for me.
My wishlist is a good location near a village, big safe garden for children to play in, lots of bedrooms so we can holiday with family/friends, nice open plan living space.

www.homeaway.co.uk/p6280543#photos Love this one!

It's detached, has a private pool, is near the beach and has a playstation to keep the 8 year old entertained!

This.. www.homeaway.co.uk/p1929972?uni_id=3807149

I would love to take my little boy on his first holiday with a pool! He would love it!

SistersOfPercy · 21/03/2018 11:50

I find it somewhat sad that having travelled all over the world I have never actually been to Scotland! Recently I have been looking at taking a break there and have settled on the area around Inverness.

With that in mind I'd love a base to explore from, nothing fancy, just a warm place to lay my head and plan the next days excursions. So, I chose one of the cheapest properties on the site:

Willowcroft is small, yet beautifully presented. It looks so cosy and has amazing woodland walks on the doorstep. Close to beaches, mountains and a distillery it looks amazing and somewhere I'd love to explore!

qate · 21/03/2018 12:15

I absolutely love this: www.homeaway.co.uk/p4035418 Gorgeous house, being that close to the beach would be perfect for the little one, and nice romantic setting for when the little one is in bed. Off to price up flights to Bali...

Love this penthouse!!! Pure luxury with fan views across an amazing city (Lisbon) Smile

Hotpinkparade · 21/03/2018 13:13

Love the look of this, in the mountains :)

Nightfall1983 · 21/03/2018 14:50

Ooh, I thought this was going to be ‘describe your theoretical perfect villa’ which I am going to do 😀

Located somewhere warm, with direct access to the beach - pref a sandy beach. Short walk to shops and restaurants. Own pool which is behind a childproof barrier and is genuinely warm - happy to pay extra for pool heating. Comfortable sun beds available, sun and shade.

Inside it should have stairgates and a cot available. Clean and in good repair throughout it should also have excellent air conditioning. A bath is a must. The kitchen can be small but should have a kettle, fridge, microwave and ideally dishwasher.

Less than an hour from an airport. Now I’m going to check the link above and see how close I can get to perfection Grin

Nightfall1983 · 21/03/2018 14:56

Well this one looks pretty amazing - just need the kids to grow past the babyproofing stage :)

My favourite is www.homeaway.co.uk/p6787006. We have visited puerto Pollensa in the past and loved it, so to return would be wonderful.

Hopezibah · 21/03/2018 16:18

we love finding real 'home from home' gems so that you get properly immersed in the life and culture of the place you are visiting like this one in vancouver...

I like villa 861988. Big enough for a group plus lovely pool!

EasterRobin · 21/03/2018 16:50

A bit less exotic than some of the other posters but this looks lovely for me:
www.homeaway.co.uk/p8354353

It's got a lovely lakeside position and a hot tub overlooking the lake to relax in once DD has gone to bed.
