This activity is closed

HomeAway have got in touch as they are eager to know what Mumsnetters think makes the dream holiday property. Perhaps it’s all about the city centre location, or a close proximity to a beach. Maybe a big kitchen is important for you to have some relaxed holiday meals or is a barbeque something you look for? Is suitable décor important? Is a private pool or hot tub a must for you and your family? Maybe you travel with pets and find that rental properties are the only way in which you and your companions are able to soak in the sun.

Here’s what HomeAway have to say: ‘HomeAway has over 2 million properties around the world, including villas, cottages, beach houses, tree houses, mountain cabins and even castles! We specialise in offering the whole house and in providing properties suitable for families. In many cases, you can save a lot of money by booking a private home and you get more space and flexibility than hotels or resorts. We have millions of happy guests who return each year to book their holiday property and we’d love to help Mumsnetters find their own perfect match’

Whether your preference is for somewhere rural and isolated or central and bustling, HomeAway wants to know exactly what makes you tick.

Take a look at their website and post a link to your preferred property on the thread below - and don’t forget to tell us why it caught your eye!

Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

This one is stunning - www.homeaway.co.uk/p4837833

Nice stylish interior and look at that view/location! The house itself is pretty too - very different to what you would find in the UK.

www.homeaway.co.uk/lettings/spain/granada-province-costa-tropical/r103 I like the cottage around the world but when I clicked on it I couldn’t get it to give me more information. A pool is a necessary

Wow! There are some amazing properties on here.

This one has my name on please 😊:

It looks perfect for going away with a group of friends. We like a nice, well-equipped kitchen and somewhere for us all to eat together. I like the idea of being next to the beach and I can just picture myself sitting on the terrace and reading my book with a glass of wine!

Andbabymakesthree · 23/03/2018 11:07

I found the website really difficult to navigate. Also I would like the ability to refine properties by superking beds as we have one at home and really struggle to go back to a double on a holiday. It makes us all grumpy if the beds aren't good. There are some really shocking beds on some of those properties beds on some of those properties!

I sing realise that in order to get some luxury I needed to up the minimum amount I was looking at. I then spotted Fizzs comment about this one.

Wow the fully equipped playroom would be amazing for us. The views look amazing too. Heated swimming pool with bar area yes please!

libra101 · 23/03/2018 11:21

This sounds perfect!

Sea views, handy for beach and shopping.

Italian Riviera, at a fantastic price.

We tend to go away in a group of 24+ and favour the UK as it's easier to organise.
The things we look for in a property are a good kitchen and dining room as we like to share the cooking and eat as a group. Two dishwashers are an absolute must. A good outside space, a games room and a couple of lounges so we can have a quiet space.

This is my favourite:

I love the views and the Sky Room which is for grown-ups only!

This property near Sienna is absolutely gorgeous. Lovely outside seating area, modern and uncluttered, light and airy.

I absolutely adore the look of this place and am considering booking it for the summer now! I've only been to Spain once and our villa was in the countryside like this one. I thought I wouldn't enjoy being so far away from the beach, but actually I much preferred the calm and quiet of being away from the hustle and bustle. This villa looks absolutely incredible and the furnishings are beautiful too. www.homeaway.co.uk/p6484162

This one, it’s in a beautiful place, it’s a gorgeous house and SO close to the beach.

I can feel myself relaxing whilst sat in that garden with a cake from a patisserie and a cuppa (I am typically English Grin)

THis one - www.homeaway.co.uk/p1207920vb

Just love the location, right by Kitsilano in Vancouver. The sea to sky highway close by. Mountains, sunshine and the general loveliness of Canada. Why not?

ApocalypseNowt · 23/03/2018 20:14

This!!! www.homeaway.co.uk/p8042060

Went to Bulgaria several years ago and always wanted to go back. Private, detached villa with a swimming pool and 15mins from the lively bit of town - that would be awesome. Far enough away to chill and have some relaxing family time but close enough to go for days/nights out in the bars & restaurants. I'm imagining sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine. Mmmmm.....

Very reasonable price too! I'm definitely interested! Smile

For our first holiday abroad my family all want to head to Spain. HomeAway have some great properties and this has inspired me to focus on what would work for all the family. We like something a little quirky and we'd want our girls to get a real taste of Spain. This property - www.homeaway.co.uk/p8002079 - seems perfect! As a child I went to Granada, so we could also tour from Órgiva to visit the amazing sites I remember from my childhood visit, such as The Alhambra fortress!

I like this www.homeaway.co.uk/p8561976. Love the location :)

For us it’s a combination of location, price and facilities/ambience. The importance of each varies depending on the destination and time of year - we value privacy very highly on holiday, so will stay in quieter locations in peak season, and often go to more popular touristy places at Halloween for example.

Here are 2 we have stayed in, and loved:
www.homeaway.co.uk/p6517111 This one is quaint and quiet, well-equipped in lovely surroundings and significantly undersells the fact that it has access to/is part of a holiday park (Ter’Spegelt) which has swimming lakes, a big indoor pool complex etc. We stayed here after a busier week elsewhere in the Netherlands and found it really relaxing. The price was v reasonable, the location worked well for us and the decor and amenities were of a good quality and really suited the surroundings.

We also stayed in this v different property: www.homeaway.co.uk/p1975098 which is way more ‘bling’ than we usually go for, and very different in style. Again though, we chose it because of the balance between price, location and facilities. We stayed out of season, so the price was in our budget, although it’s so big that if 2 families shared it would also be good in peak season. The location was great - a 2 minute walk to the beach, and in a lovely part of the Dalmatian Coast. Everything inside was finished to a high standard and the decor was so different to what we’re used to that we felt it was a real luxury break.

What we look for will be different depending on location - in a city centre we won’t expect a pool, but for holiday resorts etc we almost always go for a private pool. The Netherlands isn’t a destination where there are many homes with private pools, but as it was a summer holiday access to swimming facilities was a must for us.

Whatever the location however we always look for a balance of price, location and facilities- I won’t choose somewhere with really dated decor, and I hate it when there’s only a hob and no actual oven.

90% of our holidays since we had kids have been booked with homeway (or other similar companies!) - as we have 3 kids package holidays often don’t work or are really expensive, and we also find having our own space much more enjoyable.

On international drive close to Disneyland...would be my dream to go to Florida.

c75kp0r · 24/03/2018 09:54

This would be interesting www.homeaway.co.uk/p603452vb no actual chippendale furniture mind, but great location and interesting history and we could get there by tube

OMG! This cute apartment in Barcelona! www.homeaway.co.uk/p1310320

can I live there?

Treaclespongeandcustard · 24/03/2018 15:29

I love this one. The pool and sea view look gorgeous. I could move in for good 😊 www.homeaway.co.uk/p3783476

Wouldn't mind this one! Spacious, secluded but not far from the lovely old town of Pollenca.
For us the luxury of a private pool and a outside area is what makes a great relaxing holiday. Lovely to spend quality time with the family and enjoy the outdoor living that we don't have the temperatures for in Scotland!

CathBookworm · 24/03/2018 19:48

I'd love to revisit Paris, this time with the kids in tow. This stunning apartment caught my eye www.homeaway.co.uk/p8603558 so handy and beautifully decorated.

www.homeaway.co.uk/p1680309 this place. To take my kids and my parents to a place we went to before we had kids.. this would be heaven.

We love this part of Wales, and it's tricky for us to travel abroad because our son is disabled. I like that this cottage has an enclosed garden, which means we can let our son out to play without fear of escape. It also doesn't have many low-level ornaments (which invariably have to be moved!) I'm just disappointed because I looked at Florida first, then Wales, and this is twice the price of a villa with pool in Florida Shock
