It’s no surprise that often having a family means more mess around the house, no matter how much you try to stay on top of it all. Plus, in many cases there is that one family member that seems to be able to make the most mess possible...realises that person is yourself Blush. With that being said, Caesarstone would like you to tell us the biggest mess that’s been on your worktop and who in your family created it.

Here’s what Jonathan Stanley, Vice President of Marketing at Caesarstone has to say: “It’s impossible to completely child proof your house and you accept that accidents and innocent errors of judgment are going to happen. You can mitigate these by choosing the right finishes. No work surface is indestructible, quartz included, however quartz is virtually non-porous, which means spills will sit on the surface and not seep into it. That apple juice should just wipe off with a cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner and non-scratch pad will remove any crayon works of art. Critically, wine spills from that well deserved glass at the end of day should also wipe off without a trace.”

Was your young DC having a go at painting and decided your worktop would make a better canvas than the paper? Perhaps your afternoon of baking took a turn for the worst when eggs and flour exploded all over you worktop? Or maybe your pet has on more than one occasion jumped up onto the worktop with muddy paws...or even worse decided it was their new litter tray!

Whatever your biggest worktop mess is, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

Making my husband's birthday cake a few years ago. I must have put the base of the springform tin in the wrong way round, as when I lifted the it up to put it in the oven, the mixture just leaked out of the bottom all over the worktop, cupboard fronts and just-washed floor Confused I was a bit hormonal as DC1 was only a few months old - there may have been some sobbing!

cathwarbur · 03/03/2018 15:03

My husband is the messiest when cooking. Stuff all over the floor, all over the work surfaces and food splashed all over the tiles and cooker. I love his cooking but put off by the mess I Have To Clean Up!

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 03/03/2018 15:28

Ours was superglue. Plus... DS got his hand stuck in it for half an hour. Took ages to get it off him and the side.

Thistly · 03/03/2018 20:03

When my family visit, they always get involved in the meal prep, which I truly appreciate. I enjoy the teamwork which goes into making meals, but my kitchenis tiny, and there is always extra ingredients cluttering up the surface. This has, on three indelible occasions, led to hot pans being put directly on the work top. I think i might lose my deposit when I move out. Best just stay forever!

Kangar00 · 03/03/2018 20:38

Well, it is probably a combination of me and my daughter together. She was icing fairy cakes with blue food colouring and I was using the same blue food colouring to make playdough from scratch! That's hard to clean off believe me!

Miloarmadillo2 · 03/03/2018 22:11

That would be me, making a bomb cake for DS's spy party, complete with sparkler on top that when lit burnt many tiny holes in our oak worktop. I was not popular.....

Azra12 · 03/03/2018 22:46

Has to be the time when I tipped over the bottle of cooking oil on the worktop which spilt all over the floor & under the gas cooker and I remember how I ended up having to move the cooker and mopping up endless times & still noticing sticky worktops and floor!!! Confused

CointreauVersial · 03/03/2018 23:30

DD1 had a chocolate party for her 13th birthday. She and five friends had a fantastic time melting and moulding chocolate, making chocolate bark and dipping strawberries.

But oh, the mess. I was chiselling chocolate off the worktops (and floor) for hours.

Tarrarra · 04/03/2018 00:22

Ds managed to explode around a litre of his peanut butter laden protein shake all over the counter and the open drawer beneath. Horrible greasy mess, took me ages to clean up...

Wolfcub · 04/03/2018 09:37

It was an American Meringue frosting for Rachael Allen’s walnut cake for my mum’s 60th birthday. It went everywhere, on the surface, the wall, the floor and on the underneath of all the cupboards. I was entirely responsible. Lovely cake though

Didiusfalco · 04/03/2018 13:03

One of the worst was ds trying making himself blackcurrant cordial. So sticky and hard to wipe up, plus stains everything elsewhere.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 04/03/2018 16:45

Overcooked elderberry syrup that was more like jelly.
The jar cracked when I poured it in and it went everywhere. I had to clean under the microwave etc. It stained spectacularly. I consider it to have been an act of God. Because otherwise it would have been my fault

goldenretriever1978 · 04/03/2018 17:31

Definitely when one of my sons went crazy with a full bottle of talc in the front room Hmm

tootssweet · 04/03/2018 19:25

Could possibly be the time when half the kitchen ceiling was on the worktop. Someone (DS probably) left the bathroom tap running when brushing their teeth & we then all went to school/childminder/work & didn't return for many hours later.

It was extremely wet & very gritty & messy. Took a long time to clear & drain everywhere (& it definitely warped our worktops!). Not the best day in the sweet household

RomaineCalm · 04/03/2018 20:40

A chicken curry that was accidentally knocked over. It went everywhere and kept finding yellow drips for what seemed like weeks afterwards. Oh, and trying to get the yellow stain off the worktop was fun.

ApocalypseNowt · 04/03/2018 20:41

My very first baking session with DD1. She was 18mo and doing ever so well pouring stuff in the bowl and mixing it. I turned my back for a second and in that time she, for some unknown reason, decided to turn into a human whist. My entire kitchen resembled a Jackson Pollock Confused

Sugarhouse · 04/03/2018 21:27

Coffee and curry are terrible in out house it just leaves terrible stains I have to bleach it off

kateandme · 05/03/2018 03:09

dads big coffee maker.the ones the boil and whizz on the hob...tip.over.every....where!!! all in the hob,in the cracks. granules mixed with water just spread.all back of counter top and of course being thin it then proceeded quickly to dripple to the floor.
not good.

HoneyDragon · 05/03/2018 14:08

Worst mess? Was when a substantial part of the ceiling landed on it. Plaster dust everywhere. Just when Dh and I had got over the shock and established a leak the shelf holding our 200 cd collection came down too scatter smashed cd cases and neatly taking out the bottle of wine on the counter that has until that point miraculously survived the ceiling landing on it. It wasn’t the best Saturday night in tbh.

FogCutter · 05/03/2018 14:21

When the kitchen cabinet containing all my oils, spices and jars fell off the wall onto the kitchen worktop. Rivers of stinky vinegar/ curry/ herb/ olive oil gloop all over the worktop and floors.

pinkflump · 05/03/2018 17:43

My ex was dishing up curry one day and dropped the container of vindaloo all over the worktop! It left a rather attractive and very large yellow stain that I just could not get rid of!

torthecatlady · 05/03/2018 18:04

Superglue... twice. I was responsible both times! Blush

HRoosevelt · 05/03/2018 19:08

Huge new jar of jam...red sticky, shards of glass, and it didn't just smash, it exploded.

OhHolyFuck · 05/03/2018 19:28

Despite having 2 kids in the house, the biggest mess was made by....me
Dropping 2 huuuuge bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar- slimy, oily, stinking mess

MikeAlphaMikeAlpha · 05/03/2018 20:28

Cornflower, water and food colouring - kids were "making slime" (what the obsession with slime is I don't know)?!?
Was fine when it was in the large plastic tub but when they spilled it onto my oiled wood counter tops and it dried...it was a nightmare!
No cleaning fluid would shift it, had to steam it off in the end and the whole worktop had to be re oiled! Won't be choosing wood again!
