It’s no surprise that often having a family means more mess around the house, no matter how much you try to stay on top of it all. Plus, in many cases there is that one family member that seems to be able to make the most mess possible...realises that person is yourself Blush. With that being said, Caesarstone would like you to tell us the biggest mess that’s been on your worktop and who in your family created it.

Here’s what Jonathan Stanley, Vice President of Marketing at Caesarstone has to say: “It’s impossible to completely child proof your house and you accept that accidents and innocent errors of judgment are going to happen. You can mitigate these by choosing the right finishes. No work surface is indestructible, quartz included, however quartz is virtually non-porous, which means spills will sit on the surface and not seep into it. That apple juice should just wipe off with a cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner and non-scratch pad will remove any crayon works of art. Critically, wine spills from that well deserved glass at the end of day should also wipe off without a trace.”

Was your young DC having a go at painting and decided your worktop would make a better canvas than the paper? Perhaps your afternoon of baking took a turn for the worst when eggs and flour exploded all over you worktop? Or maybe your pet has on more than one occasion jumped up onto the worktop with muddy paws...or even worse decided it was their new litter tray!

Whatever your biggest worktop mess is, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

I once put a hot Le Creuset pot on my solid wood worktop BlushHad to get it resanded, at considerable cost Shock

Soup from the blender. DD & I made everyone a lovely veg soup. To thin out the chucks I decided to put it in the blender. I didn't know you should let it cool before slapping the lid on. My kitchen looked like a murder scene.

Frogletmamma · 01/03/2018 17:55

My DH in the kitchen. Just that. (and the washing up!)

JanT2004 · 01/03/2018 18:23

Dh made a right mess of our work surface, he decided to solder some wires together to save time at work the next morning. The result was a big brown hole burnt through the surface! It was right in the middle so couldn't even hide it without it looking even more obvious.

My daughter spilt a whole 4 pint carton of milk!

danigrace · 01/03/2018 20:43

Spilled curry that stains for weeks!! And unfortunately me that created it!

Mine wasn't on the worktop but stuck to the floor. I was trying to make my DM some Turkish delight for her birthday. I tried to pour it out of the mixing bowl and into a tray but the whole thing just flipped out onto the floor. Started trying to clean it up only to realise I'd used concentrated gelatine and the lot was just welded to the Lino - this was my dad's new build housing association rental so he wasn't best please!

Batch cooking every Sunday. Lasagne, macaroni, soup.. all the bits and ingredients all over the surfaces..! Crazy! I love it though..

My granite worktop is stained from the hob set into it. A grease stain that I cannot shift. Any tips Caesarstone?

fivekidsonemum · 01/03/2018 22:01

My 4 kids have a BAD obsession with playing with anything pourable so one day it was salt, sugar, washing up liquid and double cream they poured it all into cups and were stiring them making a "potion" but getting mixed it was over flowing all over the kitchen sides, floor, down the front of the washing machine and cupboards. It was a nightmare to clean as the double cream and washing up liquid just slid greasy about the more i wiped it up.

Recently moved in and don't have a home for everything, yet. There are piles and piles of generic stuff on the worktop and much of it mine.

Sleepysausage · 02/03/2018 08:59

I got out all the ingredients for a cake, all the ingredients were weighed and in bowls ready for toddler to mix. I nipped to the loo thinking toddler was busy watching bing. I was back in the kitchen in minutes. Toddler had mixed all the ingredients together on the work surface. Carnage!

Balsamic vinegar everywhere! It stank for ages!

My dad once took a motor bike engine apart of the kitchen breakfast bar. It was an island really but we didn’t call them islands in the 80’s.

I can clearly remember coming in from swimming with my mum. When she saw the mess, she took us to Little Chef for tea- bonus! She told him that she’d be leaving permanently if it wasn’t gone before we got back. It was tidy when we got home. Grin

5 kittens! Our cat decided to give birth behind the bread bin so we came down one morning to find her and the new brood on the worktop!

averylongtimeago · 02/03/2018 15:19

The worst for me was when teenage DD left a candle burning in a plastic cup on the new worktop.
Then went upstairs and left it.

Result: a huge black burn (about 30cm across) and a house full of smoke.

Other than that, the time the twins, age 7, made flour and water paste and painted the worktop. It set like concrete and had to be almost chiselled off.

Our worst worktop spill was when half a can of engine oil became spilled all over, and it was my husband who was the culprit!

He was doing a minor service on the lawnmower, and placed the oil container on the worktop while looking for a screwdriver. Somehow it became upturned and the thick smelly black stuff slowly spread under the breadbin, coffee, tea canisters, and kettle as it seeped down drawers and cupboards, making its way to the floor.

It took ages to clean and I'm sure I can still smell it occasionally.

Strigiformes · 02/03/2018 17:18

The worse mess was a combination of nutella and batter all over the worktops and down the cuboards when making pancakes with dd. It was a nightmare to clean!

NewMama12 · 02/03/2018 18:44

Rank green slop all over the entire kitchen when DH forgot to put the lid on the blender properly and was trying to make a healthy smoothie.

Mel0Dram4 · 02/03/2018 18:52

My partner read that you can freeze milk, he didn't have much common sense though and froze a glass bottle full. Surprise surprise, the bottle cracked, so he left it on the side to defrost...milk everywhere! Milk on a hot summers day is a nasty combination and it stunk to high heaven :(

ThePug · 02/03/2018 19:29

Whenever we're baking we end up using so much flour to roll out the dough and it just gets everywhere! That and cornflour, which is a powdery stuff of nightmares.

snowplop · 02/03/2018 20:57

My worktop has been splattered with! 'Oobleck' a lot recently. Thanks Ms. Science Teacher. Great homework but very messy!

HazelBite · 02/03/2018 21:15

Ds2 runs marathons (it's his hobby) he goes on special diets just before each marathon. After the effort I have had to put in scraping the "bits" of his various "drinks" and "smoothies" (usually dried miniscule pieces of kale) off the worktop I have given up and covered it with a piece of PVC fabric that I can put in the washing machine. Easier than scraping and scrubbing a wooden worktop!

WowOoo · 03/03/2018 07:47

Our biggest mess was papier mache. There was a mix of PVA glue, wallpaper paste and sticky bits of newspaper everywhere. I had laid out newspaper, but that got soaked.
It was homework (to make a mask) and so we thought it was a good idea to let my son get stuck in. Oh my goodness...my poor kitchen. The mask did look ace when finished, at least.

AVT5 · 03/03/2018 11:08

making a large bowl of ice cream and stood the blender up because my baby started crying. seemed stable so walked off.. it wasn't stable and the liquid cream/condensed milk went everywhere :/ I binned the kettle/toaster etc to minimise the mess haha
