Over the Christmas holiday many of us like to get out of the house and spend time with the family by going to the cinema. Whether it’s because you’re fed up of being indoors or desperately trying to entertain children, ODEON would like to find out what you do when you venture out of the house at Christmas to see a movie.

Here’s what ODEON has to say: “With so many family films out and many families planning their trip to the cinema to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, ODEON wanted to know what Mumsnetters' best memories were of family visits to the cinema over the holidays.

Maybe you got taken to see a particularly Christmassy movie or a big blockbuster you'd been waiting ages to see. Or maybe you've got a great story to tell about visits with your the kids. Share your comments and stories below and you could win a £300 voucher or one of our extra special porg soft toys for the kids.”

So whether you are a regular Christmas cinema goer or have gone on occasion to escape home after over the festive season, share your Christmas cinema memories below.

Everyone who comments on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) as well as one of 50 soft porg toys Smile.

Thanks and good luck!

We've never really gone to the cinema at Christmas there's always too many other family events to attend. We do always go at Easter in the other school holidays though.

rennie1811 · 27/12/2017 21:33

we love going to see christmas movies at the cinema and love it when cinemas put old ones on at christmas time. This year we went to a special christmas drive in which was great to see home alone 2. The kids loved it!

freefan · 27/12/2017 22:04

I remember getting taken to see Miracle on 34th Street and I absolutely loved it, still my favourite Christmas Movie

Fingermoose · 27/12/2017 22:08

Going to see a Christmas showing of Frozen - it kicked off a lasting princess obsession in my eldest son (and an earworm and a half in Let It Go!)

Arrietty123 · 27/12/2017 22:18

We always go to the cinema during the Christmas holidays, it's a family tradition. One of my earliest memories of going to the cinema was to see The Little Mermaid with a school friend. I still have such vivid memories of the journey to the cinema and seeing the film :)

I take my daughters to the cinema between Christmas and New Year as it's something nice to do after the craziness of Christmas. We are going to go tomorrow. It also means I can pop to the sales next door!!

Stephgr8 · 27/12/2017 22:33

My parents never took us to the cinema over Christmas but they took us to pantomimes instead. I now take my children to the cinema and theatre over Christmas although the only film they wanted to see this Christmas is the latest Paddington which we saw last week and now they want to see it again so we're off to watch it tomorrow. I just wish London cinemas weren't so crazily expensive.

ErinSophia · 27/12/2017 22:37

I took my daughters to see Paddington 2, we all loved it and will definitely be getting the dvd.

feeona123 · 27/12/2017 22:43

I'm dying to go to the cinema, I have a 3 and 2 year old so I think I could take the older one now! I think she would love to see the new Paddington film so it's just finding a time to take her.

We never really went to the cinema at christmas as kids, but did during the summer or in the evenings during school holidays, however now its tradition (and timing) to take my son to the local outlet where there is a big cinema, and we watch Star Wars films with loads of popcorn, drinks and nachos and its such a lovely treat!!

1969angep · 27/12/2017 22:52

My 6 year old is still too fidgety for the cinema so we don’t tend to go very often. I remember my first cinema trip as a child though, I went with my Mum, aunt and cousin as a Christmas treat to see Disney’s Cinderella. I remember we even had a hotdog as a cinema meal lol. Still love a cartoon to this day ❤️

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/12/2017 22:55

We went yesterday to see the new star wars. It was a really enjoyable family outing.

kayleigh39 · 27/12/2017 22:55

My dad took us to see Home Alone - I was only 3 and apparently, I screamed with laughter so much that some people walked out! My dad always says now, that I have a big mouth haha

gemima27 · 27/12/2017 23:39

never really been to the cinema at christmas...something i need to change with my children i think

purplevamp · 27/12/2017 23:58

I can't remember going to the cinema much at Christmas when I was little. But these days we always go and see Star Wars. When my DS1 was little (just me and him in those days) I'd take him to see the latest Disney film. He got so excited once (he was 4) he threw up on his trousers and sat watching the film in just his pants ShockBlush.

He laughs about it now!!

aifai · 28/12/2017 00:34

My children went to see Moana and they enjoyed it tremendously. However my 15 month old daughter thought it was funny to run around the path leading to the entrance, dancing and trying to sing at the top of her voice.

RiSo · 28/12/2017 08:13

We always take our 3 boys to the cinema a couple days before Christmas, it is a nice morning of family time for us all away from the Christmas craziness. We saw Ferdinand this year which the boys had been looking forward to for a few months, nice story to that film I thought.

dannydog1 · 28/12/2017 09:40

My memory as a child was going to see Bambi in the cinema and being so frightened in the wood scene that my Mum had to take me out.

lynsmagoo · 28/12/2017 10:06

We went to see sing last year which was an animated movie...think i enjoyed it more than the kids did!

angiehoggett · 28/12/2017 10:52

we don't go to the cinema much but a xmas trip is always special

Anilahussain · 28/12/2017 11:22

We usually go to the cinema during the Xmas holidays with our children. We went to the cinema yesterday and watched Jumanji. Kids loved it the 3D showing!

lizd31 · 28/12/2017 13:15

My earliest Christmas cinema memory was when The Sound of Music first came out & now Christmas isn't Christmas without watching it on the telly

beckyinman · 28/12/2017 13:39

Me and my mum went to see Elf at the cinema when it first came out. We were the only people in there without children!

footdust · 28/12/2017 13:50

I remember going to see ET at Christmas as a child. I was obsessed with ET for a long time after seeing it

nicsal05 · 28/12/2017 15:53

I spent my birthday pregnant, way overdue and miserable so my parents took me to the cinema to try and cheer me up. We watched Scrooge, it totally took my mind to a different place for a little while and got me feeling all Christmassy. Now my daughter and I watch it every year, our very own Christmas tradition !
