artifical tree. we had a new one last year. as the other one was lopsided

same baubels every year. used to buy extra ones but we have run out of storage for it now.

anything has to be autism proof, and dyspraxia proof.

lights for the first time last year as ds likes them.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 23/11/2017 17:00

Basically a traditional colour scheme of green red and gold in the family room. In my kitchen it’s Christmas bunting and all the glittery kitch tacky decorations I can hang...
I have so outed myselfGrin

FingerlingUnderling · 23/11/2017 17:12

I have some garlands I got 15 years ago that are still going strong and they look beautiful along the back of the hall table and sideboard and interwoven with candles and christmas ornaments. My tree was from the same place and has integral pinecones. My tree lights are still working too after all this time. I did have all gold ornaments but as DD gets older I have amassed more gaudy ones too. Every year she gets to buy a new bauble so by the time she has her own Christmas tree up she will have her own set...although she may not be too impressed with some of her early choices (Christmas parrot anyone?).

ha2el · 23/11/2017 17:48

In the past few years I have dutifully put all the decorations up and decorated the tree, and then I have had to put it all away myself! So this year I am going to put lights everywhere, put the cards up and have a few very small Christmas trees scattered about the rooms with a Christmas present corner.

ychafi · 23/11/2017 17:50

I like outdoor lights. I decorate my plum tree with lights, tinsel and weatherproof (plastic) baubles.

angell74 · 23/11/2017 17:51

I’m not a fan of elf on the shelf but love the little Swedish Tomtes. I have loads of them. Lots of white lights and silver bells complete the look.

frenchfancy17 · 23/11/2017 18:33

Lights lights and more lights!

lolly2011 · 23/11/2017 19:04

We have a real tree picked by the family, decorated by the children with decorations they have made at school and decorations we have collected, we have a wreath on our front door and lots of lights outside.

Amber0685 · 23/11/2017 19:28

We put lights up in our front windows, a real wreath of the front door. Inside only really the lounge room, a real tree with old glass ornaments, lights, a little tinsel and a star on top. I also have a Poinsettia houseplant on the side table.

lynsey02 · 23/11/2017 19:52

fake tree with loads of white lights, love traditional old decorations but seem to lose some each year, so me and the kids will be making some of our own this year. ( they don't know yet, I'm sure they'll be thrilled Grin

callmeadoctor · 23/11/2017 20:32

Two artificial trees are already up, waiting g for DH to get outside ones out of the shed. Here is the shed Grin

Fake white tree with some gorgeous new tree ornaments I've bought from paperchase. Thing is, I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to xmas decorations however I've just had an operation so ds (12) will have to take the lead.

llewejk · 23/11/2017 21:12

Fake tree with plenty of lights and tinsel. We have a combination of blue and silver baubles. We generally put some lights around the banisters too.

BellaVida · 23/11/2017 21:19

We tend to be traditional. Tree decorated with loads of white lights, with a 'twinkly' setting. Red, green and gold decorations, red ribbons on our beautiful 7ft artificial tree with pine cones and bundles of cinnamon, which still give of a scent after 6 years!

Some of the children's hand made decorations come out year after year, just as my parents did. It's a lovely way to make memories to hold on to.

We don't go overboard, but put a similarly traditional wreath on the door and fake snow stencils on the windows. The children like mini trees in their bedrooms, with tiny multi-colored baubles.

I like the Homebase traditional wooden decorations

A real tree with fairy lights, but no tinsel.

A lovely winter berry wreath for the front door & fireplace decoration.

Butterfly1975 · 23/11/2017 22:19

Really looking forward to getting the Christmas decorations up!! Bought new tree and lights this year to replace our 10 year old artificial tree which has done us proud but was looking a bit sorry for itself!

Due to cat proofing, we have to put the tree decorations high up on the tree which does look a bit weird as it's bald at the bottom Grin

sjonlegs · 23/11/2017 23:11

I absolutely love Christmas, but I'll be honest my Mum was the Christmas Queen and it's lost its sparkle somewhat since losing her to cancer 2 years ago.

I'll do my damndest - but getting everyone well is my priority - as our house is plagued with bugs at the moment; colds, chest infections and sickness, and my eldest son is prone to pneumonia at this time of year. So - I'm fighting all the nasties off with a big stick and a big bottle of Calpol, and intend to get my decs up at the beginning of December. I'm quite traditional - but usually have a colour theme - I think this year it's lime and gold - so I try to pick baubles and sparkles that fit my theme. Oh and this year we're going to have to have a smaller tree and put it on the chest of drawers .. as we have a new puppy who is just bound to wreck havoc!!

We are still hoovering last year's tree needles so reluctantly we are buying a fake tree this year. Gutted, but I'm going to look into those sticks you can buy that make them smell like a real tree though. I've decided this year I want to make the house very traditional 80s cheese Christmas so I'm going all out with the awful foil garlands on the ceiling and also those awful foil snowflakes and bells, it's going to be so awful that it's amazing. Battery powered lights on the tree because no one has enough plug sockets to supply a properly lit tree, there'll be No tinsel though, i cant stand it. I can't wait 😂

kennythekangaroo · 24/11/2017 08:29

We will have our usual fake tree but need some new lights. Decorations are a very random collection from over the years.

DD and DS choose a new decoration each every year which they love seeing on the tree.

Wife2Frog · 24/11/2017 08:50

Our son has bought his first home so we’re on a mission to help him decorate in style this Christmas. Whilst we have passed him a few bits that we have spare he is looking for a more modern take on Christmas! Thankfully B&Q have a huge choice of modern & traditional tree & decorations. So, whilst our son heads for the 4FT MULTICOLOUR PRE-LIT LED CHRISTMAS TREE
Product code: 5053844048023 & the Winter Wonderland collection of decorations , we’ll head over to the Traditional collections to add a few additions to our much loved Christmas decorations.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 24/11/2017 11:02

Peacock theme for us this year so...
Turquoise
Pink
Teal / Green
And Gold

Anything and everything used including feathers, dried teasles and pine cones.

Byrdie · 24/11/2017 11:04

deck the halls with.... bells, garlands and lots of twinkly lights!

NerrSnerr · 24/11/2017 11:28

We have a fake tree. Out decorations are from what we have collected over the years, some made my our children, some Lego, some knitted or made by me and some gifts so a mixture. I love it though.

Hmumto3 · 24/11/2017 12:35

Tree and lights with all the kids drawings up and stockings

FreshHerbs · 24/11/2017 12:58

Every year we have a certain theme in our household. I usually get inspiration from my children and ask them to play word games associated with Xmas. When I hear a word that tickles me I run with that so last year was "the ice queen" and this years theme is "pink Xmas crackers".
So the tree will have a baby pink and baby blue colour theme running threw it, pink for my daughter and blue for my sons. Tinsel, baubles, lights, and pink and blue crackers to adorn the tree.
Shiny pink and blue wrapping paper for presents with a Xmas cracker placed on the side instead of those tassel things. And loads of colour coordinated lights around inside and outside the house.
Also having a big massive ribbon placed outside on the front of the house which will be illuminated. Can't wait for all my plans to come together
