The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

hubby always does the roast in our house, his top tip is wholegrain mustard in the mash....yum!

sarah861421 · 18/10/2017 20:41

we didnt have a regular sunday roast as my children always seemed to be doing stuff but when we did we always tried to follow it with a game or family film or possibly even a family walk

ellenemery · 18/10/2017 20:50

Plenty of roast potatoes, parsnips and Yorkshire puddings needed here. If it is chicken my grandson says it must be homemade stuffing. We like apple sauce and cranberry sauce too just to fill the little gaps on the plate. I could eat roast every day as long as it is a different meat each time.

stefalfie11 · 18/10/2017 20:53

After boiling the potatoes to roast them, drain them and sprinkle a bit of flour over the top of them. Then add them to hot goose fat, you'll get amazingly crispy roasties!

alsproject · 18/10/2017 21:00

we always make gravy from the roasting pan juices and it always tastes fantastic

MrsDramaQueen · 18/10/2017 21:01

My husband makes the best roast potatoes by adding Paprika to them. It really makes them taste great.

juju3 · 18/10/2017 21:02

Used to love the yorkshire way of having the yorkshire pud first - sadly this has lapsed to save time

Kennylou12 · 18/10/2017 21:09

I make a different meat each week, but gammon is the firm fave. I always part boil the potatoes and rough them in the sieve before putting in to roast, to get those crispy roasts. Honey glazed carrots and parsnips are also an essential.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 18/10/2017 21:10

My roast rules are: always more potatoes than you think you'll need because roasties are The Food of the Gods; horseradish is a delicious accompanyment to all meats, not just beef and; roasted cauliflower is a revealation of deliciousness.

towser44 · 18/10/2017 21:12

Honey Roast Parsnips! They make or break the Sunday roast for me!

Pinkiepromisex · 18/10/2017 21:13

We never have a roast without sweet potato mash - lovely! Roasties as well of course ( should go without saying!!). Favourite meal of the week.Smile

maryandbuzz1 · 18/10/2017 21:17

Our Sunday ritual is for me to go and do gardening jobs outside and for my husband to cook Sunday lunch. We always sit xxx an at the table for it and always have roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings no matter what meat he is cooking.By the time I have finally wished in the garden he has cooked it....then I wash up!

jandoc · 18/10/2017 21:34

I feel getting someone else to cook it works wonders for me lol

Elizasmum02 · 18/10/2017 21:37

i always heat the oil i use to coa roast potatoes, it justseems to make them crispier!

RACHELSMITH45 · 18/10/2017 21:40

There's got to be a bisto gravy in the mix! Yorkshire puds are also a must to complete a roast!!

sm2012 · 18/10/2017 21:41

My top tip for great roast potatoes os to fluff them up a lot before they go in the oven, a few swirls around the colander does this a treat :)

I've also found that cheese sauce on veg gets the kids to eat at least some of it!

marymanc · 18/10/2017 21:50

On Sunday evening my husband does the cooking and sometimes he cooks a roast. It is really tasty, full of roast potatoes, crunchy Yorkshire puddings and lots of vegetables.

mrpeterhall · 18/10/2017 22:00

A huge variety of vegetables, some roasted, others steamed or microwaved with just a small helping of meat make a roast dinner a very economical meal in our household

pfcpompeysarah · 18/10/2017 22:07

We love our Yorkshire puddings but they must be made from scratch, none of the packaged ones, yuck. I tend to be a bit carefree with the veggie portions when cooking as I use up any leftover veg by making bubble and squeak the next day with beans and gammon ham.. one of my favourite comfort food meals ever!

IonaAilidh11 · 18/10/2017 22:08

always make more yorkshire puddings than you will need

dadshere · 18/10/2017 22:09

Boil the potatoes with a little rosemary before roasting them in oil and rosemary with salt and pepper!

snowplop · 18/10/2017 22:09

We've got a timy oven so have recently hit on using the charcoal bbq for the meat: butterflied leg of lamb marinated overnight in olive oil, garlic and rosemary. It cooks to perfection in less than 30 mins and leaves the oven free for toasties and yorkies. Top tip is to always rest the meat for a good 15 mins before carving.

itsali · 18/10/2017 22:13

Prep the veg the night day before, make more roast potatoes than you think you need and make the Yorkshire pud batter the night before or that morning, not straight before you need it.

feeona123 · 18/10/2017 22:16

Got to say that we rarely have a roast on a Sunday! We are usually out somewhere so we don't have the time to cook a big meal. I like to do a Monday roast gammon and do roasties then.

pinkjjf27 · 18/10/2017 22:16

My tip is always to have a a back up plan. If family suddenly call me to say they are coming at the weekend and I haven't had time to shop I always have a cheats in the freezer frozen veg , and ready roast potatoes or Yorkshires pudding . I also freezer meat juices and left over rich gravy's to add to instant stocks and gravy to jazz them up.
