The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

A roast isn't a roast without home made gravy with meat juices.

wjanice121 · 18/10/2017 19:02

Having the timings of things written down beforehand so you know what you need to do at what time.

bubbleybooboo · 18/10/2017 19:08

A roast is never a true roast dinner without yorkshire puddings so the first thing i usually do is make my batter mix.

We all pitch in whether it be peeling the veg or making gravy. We have two or three veg and mashed and roast potatoes (usually frozen ones because with everything else theres never enough room in the oven for all the time proper ones take)

As a sunday tea is the only time we all eat together we usually all sit and watch a family film whilst eating.

Adding a little water , half an onion and half a carrot when you roast your joint makes the perfect stock for your gravy - this tip from a great chef I know whose gravy is legendary

littleme96 · 18/10/2017 19:20

I agree with a pp, that regardless of what the meat is, we must always have yorkshire puddings!

We always sit at the table to have a roast - it is a lovely family time.

ozbird1 · 18/10/2017 19:21

My veg cooked in my pampered chef dishes around the joint together with my Aunt Bessie Yorkshires

cocochips · 18/10/2017 19:30

Make sure there are leftovers!

Mummypower92 · 18/10/2017 19:33

Homemade gravy!
Must have crispy roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings because what is a roast dinner without them ??

LeeR1985 · 18/10/2017 19:38

My ritual is to head to my mums because she makes a better roast!! One thing she always makes is stuffing made with sausage meat in it.. they're amazing. It's not a sunday roast at my parents without them!

glenka · 18/10/2017 19:44

We all love roast potatoes in our house so they always go quickly so we have to cook loads of them and make sure they are as crispy as we can get them.

Signoritawhocansway · 18/10/2017 19:45

Make sure more meat than necessary for leftovers the next day. And cook it in slow cooker to free up oven space for roasties!

Ferryfairy · 18/10/2017 19:50

Sunday dinner happens any day of the week, but ALWAYS includes Maris Piper potatoes parboiled and roasted in rape seed oil - perfect crunchy roasties. Roast parsnips, roast onions, carrots, cauliflower cheese and something green. Then there’s a giant slug of port in the gravy. Never any leftovers to worry about in our house!

WonderLime · 18/10/2017 19:51

Another one for the extra roasties! The family always end up eating double portions in a roast dinner.

Stephgr8 · 18/10/2017 19:57

we always have a roast and it's usually chicken because it's my children'[s favourite. We have it with roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds, home made bread sauce and home made gravy. We always have broccoli because the children like it and I coerce them into eating carrots (otherwise no pudding!) In the winter we usually have roast parsnips too. It's hard work but I like the tradition and us all sitting down together.

holey · 18/10/2017 20:03

Tip number one: Use the meat juices to make the gravy. My youngest son prides himself on being the gravy maker. When he was little, he used to be the "tester" so he has watched me do it so often he now insists I call him when it is time to make the gravy so he can do it. I like a good thick gravy and he is spot on at this. He also gets to pinch the odd potato while he works! Therefore, tip number two is: make sure there are plenty of roasties as at least one child/husband will be hovering. Tip number three: If you're having chicken/turkey and making stuffing, mix it with sausage meat to make the meat part of the meal go further. If using a packet stuffing mix, also mix in an egg. This makes it fluffy and light and not dense and heavy, especially if you cook it in a tray or dish rather than stuffing the chicken with it.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 18/10/2017 20:04

Extra veggies! At the moment, we need mountain of roasted carrots as DD has decided they are the food of the gods (ain't going to argue with that one!)

Most important ritual - glass of wine for the gravy, glass of wine for the cook...

cathwarbur · 18/10/2017 20:07

I cheat on roast potatoes I buy ready roast potatoes and they always taste much better than mine!

APJ1 · 18/10/2017 20:07

For the best roast, go out and have someone else cook it!

blue25 · 18/10/2017 20:08

Always lots of Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and pigs in blankets!

Kleptronic · 18/10/2017 20:09

We have it at dinner time, because it is Sunday Dinner. We have a fry-up at lunch time.

twinklenic · 18/10/2017 20:15

My best tip is to sprinkle a couple of oxo's into your stuffing mix as well as meat juices. makes the best stuffing ever

feefeegabor · 18/10/2017 20:18

My hubby cooks the roast - we always have a quorn or nut roast for ours as we are veggie but we love Aunt Bessie's Yorkshires. They are a must. My hubby's tip is to fry onions and add those to the gravy. I love his onion gravy!

Jade5093 · 18/10/2017 20:29

Variety! Lots of veg potatoes done in different ways... and defo nt a dinner without Yorkshire puddings!

lolly2011 · 18/10/2017 20:29

We always have roast potatoes and yorkshires, its not a roast dinner with out, we love thick gravy. Roast dinner is my children's favourite meal. We usually cook extra potatoes and veg for bubble and squeak.

peg0161 · 18/10/2017 20:31

in our house whatever roast dinner it has to come with yorkshire puddings and stuffing yes a bit strange with lamb or beef but kids mither for it so why not
