The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

make sure the oil is super hot for the perfect Yorkshire puds!

Bellkat · 18/10/2017 22:50

Always use goose fat for perfect roasties

freefan · 18/10/2017 22:52

Our ideal roast is everyone around the table, and plenty of chat to go with the meat, veg , gravy and of course yorkshire puddings that go just as well with chicken or lamb as well as the traditional beef they are know to pair up with.

onemorecakeplease · 18/10/2017 22:55

I use aunt Bessie's roast potatoes, parsnips and yorkshires. It just saves so much time.

I like the chicken that you roast in the bag too and then add the juices to the gravy.

My kids love a roast dinner so we don't keep it just for Sundays we probably have this kind of meal twice a week.

If there are any Yorkshires left over I love them with syrup! Mmm

NoStraightEdges · 18/10/2017 22:58

Frozen veg is my trick! Aunt Bessie's frozen carrot and swede mash make my Sunday roasts-who can be bothered to peel chop book and mash carrots and swedes when you can empty a bag of frozen into a pan and simply reheat it?

It's a winner winner chicken dinner situation! Grin Wink

lhlee62 · 18/10/2017 23:11

We always get a massive joint or a really big chicken so we have loads of leftovers and I always have to have vinegar in my gravy or mint sauce for the vinegary flavour

rhinosuze · 18/10/2017 23:20

We always have a roast! Regardless of whether it's beef or not we always have yorkies which is the best bit.
I actually use aunt bessies parsnips because they are so much easier and take less time (though easy to burn I find)
We have loads of veg and always chicken gravy
I'm not a big fan of beef and lamb personally so prefer chicken (which I get in a bag for ease) but I also like but roasts though I never bother making one for myself

NotEnoughCushions · 18/10/2017 23:23

Lots of Yorkshire puddings - we snack on them later in the evening.

Loads of veg, preferably some Brussels sprouts and mashed potato for DD.

No tv, music on, candles lit and proper family time - ideally followed by a board game.

xcxcsophiexcxc · 18/10/2017 23:43

I like to make extra as it's such a big clean up I like to make sure I can get two meals out of it 😂

AnneGrommit · 19/10/2017 00:05

I use a muffin tray for my Yorkshires and they always come up huge and lovely.

voyager50 · 19/10/2017 00:19

I'm a vegetarian so I often have a 'Higgedy' pie or veggie sausages with my 'roast' dinner.

When we go to my mum's it takes her so long to serve the Sunday dinner we all end up putting our plates of food in the microwave so we end up starting to eat at different times!

Sezza110 · 19/10/2017 00:32

I prepare the meat the night before if I remember or at the very latest in the morning. That way when it comes to lunch time I can just bang it in the oven and it saves time.

Shiraznowplease · 19/10/2017 01:40

We always have a roast on a Sunday, we eat in the dining room (the only day it is used) and it is the only meal we all eat together due to work hours and numerous activities and sports.
We always have lots of roasties and yorkshires (although the yorkshires are aunt Bessie's not homemade due to my complete inability to make anything other than flat frisbee). I do a range of veggies (with lots to spare as I love bubble and squeak) and make the children choose two that they have to eat. We all stay at the table after lunch has finished to discuss our weeks. My favourite part of the week

pockledigg · 19/10/2017 03:38

Wine in the gravy-even if it's granules!!!!

thesockgap · 19/10/2017 07:39

Sorry, Aunt Bessie, but a good roast HAS to have home made roast potatoes! Mine are ALMOST as good as my late mum's, but they will never quite match up to hers... but my family do love them.
I part boil the potatoes, drain, shake them up and toss in a bit of flour. Then I tip them into boiling hot goose fat, baste them, and dot a few cloves of garlic throughout the tray. Keep basting regularly and moving the potatoes around the tray so they get evenly cooked. I let them cook for a good hour and a half so they are lovely and crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Delicious!
Anything goes as regards veg or meat, but we have to have those lovely roasties and some tasty meaty gravy!

EmilyK83 · 19/10/2017 08:05

My tip is to make sure you have leftovers! I always cook extra roast potatoes (great for snacking on cold) and huge joints of meat, which I then throw into stews, sandwiches, salads and more throughout the course of the week - it works out more cost-effective, and makes the food go further!

lizd31 · 19/10/2017 08:23

I'm a vegetarian so I like to do something different. This is one of my favourites, it's very tasty, healthy & looks great. Roasted Butternut Squash, new & sweet potato, Mediterranean vegetables, Feta, black olives & pine nuts

I sit the meat on a layer of leeks, onions and garlic and always save some to put in an omelette the next day.

phillie1 · 19/10/2017 08:34

Not only on sundays, as my daughters favourite meal, with enough left over for her to have her 'mini roast' later in the evening for a snack!

becky004 · 19/10/2017 08:54

OH always cooks our roast dinners, lamb is a family favourite, and he always makes enough for us to have a roast dinner the following day too. So plenty of vegetables, roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings so there are enough leftovers for the next day.

Jayfee · 19/10/2017 09:11

Husband always cooks them. I give the commentary about how crisp the potatoes are, how to tender or not the beef is etc.

kamaxtra · 19/10/2017 09:11

Always make too much food, because leftover roast is soooo delicious (seriously!)

vonniebab2 · 19/10/2017 09:11

Sunday roast is our favourite meal of the week lots of roasties yorkshires and plenty of veg, leftovers make a delicious bubble & squeak for the next day

beckyinman · 19/10/2017 09:31

Roast potatoes are a must. I've tried many methods but the one that works the best in our house is Jamie Oliver's. Parboil the potatoes, then give them a shake in a colander to bash them up a bit before putting them into the oven

ameswright2906 · 19/10/2017 09:51

My hubby and I are very fussy eaters so we cook chicken and roast beef; I will have the chicken with roasties, mash, cauliflower cheese, yorkshires, veg and Bisto beef gravy while my husband has beef, roasties, yorkshires and pigs in blankets with no gravy or sauce. The kids only really eat their yorkshires and gravy!!!
