The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

ive only just thought/realised we only have roast potatos when we have a roast!is this why we love them so much?or why really why only on a sunday.it really has me bamboozled as we love the thigns but would never think of having them at any other time haha.

Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house?stop overthinking it.dont stress it is just another meal.there seems to be a big fear over roast.(especially at Christmas) but and I don't no whether its because we have grown up with it but its just a meal.and really quite simple. timing is quite often the make or break.no when you putting in heating up taking out etc.have aplan from the off relating to your meat going in. and NEVER OVER cook meat remembering with cooking times you got to leave the essential resting time.

What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful?everything hehe.bread sauce.yorkshires, apple sauce.horsradish mint sauce etc etc all important.there must be roasties.there must be the above to go with the meats they match and stuffing.always buy the better cut of meat.always buy bigger(often cheaper) meat and veggies because its is not a option to skip leftover!there must always be leftoverers.
oh and it must be poroper gravy made with marmite and meat juices.

Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat?we try to.but over wantig to not out of force.
And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs?what they ask for.but hardly hardly ever happens mostly the times it has they have like fish so salmon has been had. stores do some gorgeous veggie frozen pies and burgers now too.

We always try to use fresh seasonal veg - it's good to get the children trying new foods, and it always tastes better too!

HairsprayBabe · 18/10/2017 12:08

Sunday roast at my parents is a family affair.

Dad preps the meat before him and my mum head off to church.

Me and my younger brother prep all the veg and stuffing balls while they are out.

I make a cauliflower cheese and a veggie main for myself.

My sister makes the dessert, something like a crumble or eves pudding.

Mum and Dad finish the meal off after they get back from church, and we always have yorkshire puds, no matter what the meat is!

ClashCityRocker · 18/10/2017 12:13

Make enough for leftovers!

And a pack lunch the next day...

It's the only meal we have a dessert with.

manchesteruntied · 18/10/2017 12:55

rosemary in with the roasties :)

Raahh · 18/10/2017 13:21

I don't like meat, so always do fish for me, and meat is done in the slow cooker .We always do enough so dh can take some leftovers to work on Monday.

Always lots of roast potatoes- and yorkshire puddings (for me, mainlyGrin) regardless of the meat involved.

Hisashiburi · 18/10/2017 14:05

We always make far too.many roast potatoes to snack on and cover aunt Bessie's with lots of onion gravy!

LiveLifeWithPassion · 18/10/2017 14:24

We like a roast on Sunday but I like easy cooking.
We just do an all in one dish where all the veg and chicken go in one huge tray and then left to cook in the oven. We bung in garlic cloves and herbs like thyme or rosemary and it’s really nice.
It’s the kids favourite meal so we have to have it every Sunday.

BrieAndChilli · 18/10/2017 16:32

If we have chicken I always cook some extra legs as the 3 kids and DH all argue over them otherwise!

georgedawes · 18/10/2017 16:41

We always make a lot extra so we can eat the same again on Monday (yum!). And because my daughter eats bloody loads of roasties!!

mooota1514 · 18/10/2017 16:46

Use the juices from the meat to add flavour to the gravy and always need stuff and homemade bread sauce with chicken. A roast is my ds & DD's favourite meal

TracyKNixon · 18/10/2017 16:48

For a tasty gravy I use a little left over Yorkshire pud mix, water from the boiled veg and a splash of gravy bowning - add all three to the meat tin (after removing the meat so all the juices are there) and gently heat and stir!

shellywkd · 18/10/2017 16:51

Always make twice as many roast potatoes as you think you need as there are never enough. I find even the children always ask for more potatoes.

andywedge · 18/10/2017 16:52

Roast potatoes done in olive oil is my magic trick

MargoLovebutter · 18/10/2017 16:56

Proper homemade gravy made from the juices of the meat, thickened with a roux and a teaspoon of molasses if it is too pale.

meepmoop79 · 18/10/2017 16:57

Its all about the roast potatoes for me. You need to boil them first, and then shake them in the colander until fluffy.
When roasting remember to regularly baste them with oil.
Lovely.

Diamondsandpears · 18/10/2017 16:59

Start the prep early. Plan for lots of leftovers. Let one person have the kitchen with the radio on to finish the gravy, veg etc and other entertain children or enjoy a movie with them.

AnimalAddict · 18/10/2017 17:05

There always has to be Yorkshire puddings and lots of gravy, you can never have enough :)

footdust · 18/10/2017 17:05

Absolutely love a roast dinner in my family. As far as we are concerned uou can never have too many roasties!!

hiddenmichelle · 18/10/2017 17:09

sausages and blankets go with ALL roast dinners - there are for life - not just for Christmas!!! Also - always home made gravy!

sheilads105 · 18/10/2017 17:11

My family love the Sunday roast gravy so I always make double quantities so that they can enjoy swimming roasties!

gd2011 · 18/10/2017 17:13

Teach your children compassion and respect for animal by ditching the meat and having a vegan dinner like Portobello Mushroom Roast.

1836Aa · 18/10/2017 17:16

If we are having roast pork I leave it uncovered in the fridge for a couple of days so the crackling is extra good

glennamy · 18/10/2017 17:19

Par boil the potatoes, give them a shake and cook them in very hot goose fat = perfect roasties everytime! :)

gemmahaughton · 18/10/2017 17:24

I always dish out an extra portion of roast dinner into a Tupperware box for my lunch in work the next day.
