The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

Our Sunday roasts tend to be the only evening meal where we are together in the week.

The veg is what's on offer and we often add a cauliflower cheese!

My husband has to make the gravy as he makes the best gravy.
😃 Yum

We love roasts in our house. My daughters favourite, so I love to rustle ups mid week one with sausages, gravy roasties and yorkshires straight from the freezer. She fills the Yorkie with veg and eats it like a cake ...😳😳! I came home from work this week, her dad was at Home with her and she was so excited as she had had a roast that daddy had made- yorkies, mash, sweet corn and fish fingers!!! Mmmm

tabbaz123 · 29/10/2017 07:49

I have to be honest we no longer have Sunday dinner rituals - we live a really busy life and as we love roast dinners we can have a roast on any day of the week and often do as we are less tied to the house on a weekend so go out and about more. However, we always have to have roasties and tend to roast most of our root vegetables...we can take or leave the Yorkshires but I only buy aunt bessies when we do have them and I guess making my own mint sauce has become a ritual and is often added to the gravy

teetee9 · 29/10/2017 08:23

I make my gravy from the juices of the meat. It just add a little extra flavour yo the meal and is especially tasty when drizzled over roasties

We always have a roast dinner on a Sunday - usually chicken, gammon or sometimes baked salmon. Always at the dining room table. Tend to have mash rather than roasties. Trying to experiment with veg to get kids eating more.

And trying to teach table manners....an important ritual!

delboy98 · 29/10/2017 09:10

We never used to do many sprouts as we thought no-one would like them. Now, when we have the family round on a Sunday, we always have to do loads extra, otherwise (bizarrely) they're the first vegetables we run out of!

onedayatatime73 · 29/10/2017 10:23

DP cooks. I help. The dcs lay the table. Everyone has to be involved. Everyone gets to choose one favourite vegetable. Always serve twice the amount of gravy than you think you will need.

Extra Yorkshire puddings and leftovers to make bubble and squeak

vicks276 · 29/10/2017 13:51

We HAVE to put cheese in the mash - the stronger the better!

libra101 · 29/10/2017 14:01

On Sundays we always sit down at the table to enjoy our roast. Sometimes I roast beef, pork or chicken, but the key ingredient is always the gravy. Made from juices from the meat, added flavour using a Knorr stock pot and cornflower to thicken. It always goes down well!

Roasties are essential, along with carrots, broccoli, leeks, cauliflower, or which vegetables are in season. I like to make the roast from scratch, but have to confess to 'cheating' with Auntie Bessie's Yorkshire's.

Luckily, no one has special dietary requirements, and everyone enjoys.

BGcat14 · 29/10/2017 14:32

Always put roast potatoes into hot oil. And add the liquid from the meat to your gravy! Delicious!

sofieellis · 29/10/2017 14:43

My top trick for Sunday lunch is to get DH to cook it for me! It's become tradition that he makes the Sunday roast, including meat, stuffing, Yorkshires, mashed & roast potatoes, lots of veg, bread sauce and gravy. He also makes veggie and gluten free options for me and DS2's GF.

Me and DS3 always snack later on on the leftover roast potatoes!

laurapotz · 29/10/2017 14:49

Yorkshire puddings whatever the roast is - I just love yorkshire puddings and gravy!

DiWoo · 29/10/2017 15:55

We usually have a roast dinner on a Sunday, it's our favourite, provided the weather is not too hot, but in the evening as my OH is at work. He demands stuffing and Yorkshire puddings no matter what meat we're having and my freezer always has Aunt Bessie's Bake At Home ones in it and he always jokes about having two.

alison991 · 29/10/2017 16:04

Boil the potatoes before roasting to make them fluffy and always serve yorkshires!

allthingsred · 29/10/2017 18:04

Agreed with pp a roast isn't a proper roast without Yorkshire puds.

Aquiver · 29/10/2017 18:16

A Sunday roast is still an essential in our house. We will save to buy a lovely joint of meat or whole chicken, or sometimes have a veggie centrepiece such as a homemade nut roast.

Must haves include green veg (peas, broccoli or cabbage), cabbage (white and red) and occasionally cauliflower cheese. We adore roast potatoes made in goose fat, but always have a bag of Aunt Bessie’s extra special roasties in the freezer when we want a more relaxed (but just as tasty!) roast. A dish of stuffing and homemade gravy are mandatory - absolutely delicious and my absolute favourite meal!

sammylea80 · 29/10/2017 20:45

Add a splash of tomato ketchup to your gravy , it's delicious

ZuzuSa · 29/10/2017 23:34

Get creative is my tip. Get creative with flavour, get creative with ingredients. I like to have fun with food and look forward to new things.

007hel · 29/10/2017 23:38

I meal plan, and rotate the meat, so it’ll be roast chicken, beef, pork and lamb. Always served with roasties and homemade Yorkshire puddings. I try and alternate the veg, some weeks roasted veg, other weeks boiled. Me and the kids love sprouts so they are usually added too

MAT12 · 30/10/2017 08:11

Best tip for making great crispy roast potatoes is to part boil and just before taking them of is to heat some oil and a little butter in a large pan, then drain pots, give them a good shake in sauce pan to give them that rough look. After add them to the heated oil pan and then coat them in the oil/butter mix. They come out so crispy and have a great buttery taste. You can also add herbs or bacon to the oil mix.

jazzitup · 30/10/2017 10:13

Always make my own gravy, turns a nice meal in to a fantastic meal, oh yes and get the roast potatoes right, Mmmmmmmmm.

Sammyislost · 30/10/2017 11:35

My ideal roast dinner would have meat, potatoes, at least 3 types of veg, yorkshires, gravy and stuffing! And enough to have some seconds too!!

I love a bit of cauliflower cheese with a roast, it's a bit naughty, but i LOVE it.

I do find that using frozen roast potatoes mean i can concentrate on getting the meat and the cauliflower cheese right. And I do like to use frozen Yorkshires too!

ginauk84 · 30/10/2017 12:09

I love a roast, but because hubby works every Sunday and Saturday it never happens. I think the only roast we have is Christmas day and I suppose you probably appreciate it more. I can never seem to make a decent gravy though - I love a good gravy but it always seems to come out a bit thin. So last time we bought ready made gravy from the chilled aisle!

emiai · 30/10/2017 12:23

We always sit to the table, and if anyone else visits, we make extra room by dragging tables and chairs in so we can all fir to the table. Also.. mid week roasts are a must in our house!
