The team at Aunt Bessie's would love to know all about your Sunday Roast Rituals - what makes a roast dinner go down well in your house? What's the key tip, trick, ingredient or essential item which makes that meal particularly successful? Does your family always sit down at the table? Is Sunday the one day you always insist on everyone being home to eat? And what do you dish up for vegetarians or anyone with specific dietary needs? Do you have roast potatoes even when it's not a Sunday?

Aunt Bessie's say "Aunt Bessie’s recognises how difficult it is these days to get the family together - that’s why mealtimes, and particularly the Sunday Roast, are so important. We’re proud to announce that our Homestyle roast potatoes are Mumsnet Rated*, following testing by members of the site. So whether you whip them out for the Sunday Roast or use them to spice up a meal during the week, give Aunt Bessie’s roasties a try today and see how long you can keep the kids at the table!"

Add your ritual or tip for a great Sunday Roast below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck

We always go to my father in laws for a massive sunday roast. He puts on all the trimmings - best meal of the week. Even better.... I don't have to cook!

Littlejayx · 25/10/2017 05:55

Giant Yorkshire puddings. 100% everything tastes better in a giant Yorkshire! It holds the gravy like a well sealed dam

orenisthenewblack · 25/10/2017 07:02

My Dm’s Sunday lunch is the best. It’s meat and ten veg! We usually have new, mash and must have roast potatoes. Broccoli, cauli, carrots and peas are weekly additions. Parsnips roasted in honey, red cabbage and honey, sprouts, cabbage also usual suspects.
Gravy is a meal on it’s own.
But the best part is not the chicken/beef/Welsh lamb for me, but the locally made pork sausage, cooked in the oven. It’s like a little bit of Christmas every week.

I’m not going to bother you with the puddings on offer which includes home made rice pudding and homemade apple/ blackberry bilberry tart plus one or two M&S puddings supplied by Aunty N.

I only getto go once evert two or three months, but my DM, feeds her DB, her 85yr old friend (Aunty N) and my DF delivers a plate to my DMs’ old boss who’s 92 and lives in the same town.

Wonderful mother and wonderful Sunday roast maker!

Always always do too many roast potatoes - they always get eaten! When dh does the roast there are never enough.

Roast is always more special to me when we have apple sauce or cranberry sauce.

Plenty of gravy!

No one in my family likes cold or reheated roast potatoes. So I don’t make a tonne of them. We still end up with leftovers that need to be chucked out as no one likes them.

Davenotdave · 25/10/2017 12:32

Roast everything, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, such a comfort, especially at this time of year.

SillyMoomin · 25/10/2017 12:35

Best tip is: Garlic

Add whole cloves when roasting the potatoes and veg, then squeeze it out of the casings for a sweet unctuous yumminess to spread over everything

midweek roast may be served with frozen potatoes or mash for speed, but for Sunday Roast I do everything from scratch: well, I cheat and batch cook some things for the freezer (eg braised red cabbage, pureed veg, stock etc) but mostly my own work.
One meat, 2 potatoes (roast and another), at least 3 veg: accompaniments depending on what the meat is, pigs in blankets, Yorkshires, mint sauce, whatever. Gravy. Lots of gravy.

There are 7 of us without guests, but Sunday lunch at least twice a month is 11-20 people, then I serve 2 meats.

It is my favourite time of the week. It all comes out into the middle of the table and people help themselves, and there's always something that everyone will eat!

I always make loads so I have loads left over and the next day i will mash it up all together and fry it up with a fried egg on top and a big bit of crusty bread. My child hood on a plate nothing nicer having roast left overs now my kids love it too!!!

GinYummy · 25/10/2017 15:57

Always make too many roast potatoes as dh will munch them before they hit the plate.... I also love leftover roast on a sandwich for lunch the next day. I like to dip it into gravy....yum!

librarypictures · 25/10/2017 16:08

Plenty of thick gravy, roast potatoes and roast parsnips. Now the weather is getting cooler tend to have more roast dinners.

MrsBartlettforthewin · 25/10/2017 16:42

Properly made gravy using the meat juices is a must in this house. I also put a small teaspoon of red current jelly in it which makes it taste amazing. Then plenty of roasties and at least 6 types of veg. Any less and I get compliments from my small tribe.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 25/10/2017 16:48

My favourite tip for Roast Pork is to roast the pork on top of apples cut in half - the porky appley juices in the roasting tin make the best gravy!

thatslow · 25/10/2017 18:09

Let partner cook, sit back and enjoy!

cookie09 · 25/10/2017 19:02

Now i love my Sunday roasts, its definitely ritual in this house. I get up on a Sunday morning and get all my veg, stuffing, Yorkshire pud mix prepared. Always, always use my pressure cooker for doing the potatoes and veg because they are so much tastier and cooked so much quicker this way. I make a good batch of Roastie's because they are my fave and depending on what meat we are having the gravy will either have a bit of white or red wine in it to give it that Omph! My mouths watering now, don't know if i can wait until Sunday Grin

mclarkie · 25/10/2017 19:22

I always make the gravy using the water from the boiled veg and the meat juices, a splash of Tabasco and Worcester sauce + what ever condiment for the meat goes in there too :) sounds mad but tastes great

goldenretriever1978 · 25/10/2017 20:47

Yorkshire puddings and lots of thick non lumpy gravy.

dannydog1 · 25/10/2017 21:41

Yorkshire puddings was and lots of gravy.

DinosaurSex · 25/10/2017 21:43

Always fluff up the parboiled potatoes before adding to the hot oil! Perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

orionleah2012 · 26/10/2017 01:55

We like roast our home grown vegetables, carrots and parsnips. bit of a tradition digging up the veg in the morning ready to starting preparing the meal for lunch time, then we can settle down in the afternoon or go for walk to walk off the dinner

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 26/10/2017 08:36

Sunday's are just too busy here. I normally do a roast when we have step children come mid week. Makes a nice big meal for everyone.

I make Yorkshire's and freeze them. Although I do use frozen shop brought ones too. Rarely have beef but have it with chicken.

Love cauliflower cheese. Again huge batch and frozen.

Prefer to make my own potatoes but peeling is so boring!!!

Esmeralda78 · 26/10/2017 11:00

When you parboil your potatoes make sure you score them to make them nice and crispy. You can also use less fat but not lose the flavour.

hannahbjm · 26/10/2017 14:08

Definitely extra yorkshires, best bits! I love roasted parsnips all year around. Crackling on pork is my definite fave extra!

amusedbush · 26/10/2017 14:35

Pork roasted with sliced apples and a bottle of cider makes for gorgeous, tender meat and the best possible base for the gravy!

Abominus · 26/10/2017 14:48

Roast potatoes in goose fat or beef dripping, makes them taste amazing. Always like to have extra meat left over for midweek sandwiches, especially lamb or beef. Has to be proper gravy as well, can't be doing with granules.
