Dettol has launched a quiz on Mumsnet in partnership with their new ‘Protect like a Mother’ campaign. Have a go and let us know what you think of your result!

Here’s what Dettol has to say: “We know that a mother’s protection of her child is unconditional and just like an animal in the wild, she will do whatever it takes to create a safe environment for her family. We provide mums with that same unconditional protection for the whole family throughout the home.”

Any nature documentary will tell you that mothers in the wild are not to be crossed when it comes to their young. However, they all have their own individual styles of protection. Take the quiz and find out what type of animal mum you’re most like! Do you protect your child like an Elephant? Or are you more like a monkey? Or even a lion?! Have a go and come back here and let us know what you are. Do you agree with the result? Whatever kind of parent you turn out to be in the wild, we would love to hear what your thoughts are.

Everyone who posts on this thread, after taking the quiz will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Mummyto5boys · 28/09/2017 15:28

I'm an eagle 🦅 😂

Pinkemi · 28/09/2017 16:07

I am an elephant :)

corythatwas · 28/09/2017 16:11

This quiz presupposed qualities (like baby-proofing whole house) that I simply don't have. But then I never thought smothering the house in chemicals to keep it clean was a great idea either: I either removed the dirt through elbow grease or just let them build up their immune systems. So probably best if I don't win the complementary Dettol: it would just sit on a shelf somewhere together with their 15 year old artwork. .

I just sought out the most laid-back answers I could find and the answer came back that I was an elephant who would charge to protect my child. Confused

This ad campaign reinforces stereotypes about women and promotes anti-baccing the hell out of your environment (which doesn't exactly fit in well with your animals/natural world theme).

I got bear!

UpOnDown · 28/09/2017 17:45

I'm an eagle!

TimandGinger · 28/09/2017 17:56

Bear!

Jesswoods1992 · 28/09/2017 18:00

I'm a bear :) You might not be the loudest, most outgoing parent but when push comes to shove you're there to step up to any parenting challenge. You prefer situations you're familiar with and once someone gets to know you they couldn't find a better friend in you.

mrslorenzo · 28/09/2017 18:39

I am a LION! tbf I am a volunteer at the local groups as it said I would be

Aquahol1 · 28/09/2017 18:45

I got bear. I'm not sure I agree with it's description but bears are pretty good at bringing up cubs.

Wolfcub · 28/09/2017 18:47

I got Eagle. I'm the type of mother who, when their child gets squished at rugby, yells "it's not broken get on with it" from a distance it's not that I don't care but if the child isn't really upset about something then a grown up making a fuss isn't going to help anyone

jacqui5366 · 28/09/2017 19:28

I am a monkey - your little ones are only young once - have fun and let them grow up having fun too

MummyL1411 · 28/09/2017 20:42

I'm an elephant apparently, hopefully just in the caring, protective nature not appearance!

clopper · 28/09/2017 20:52

I'm an Eagle. Agree that some of the questions don't offer enough choice for instance I didn't baby proof the house.. just kept an Eagle eye out I guess!

fivekidsonemum · 28/09/2017 21:25

I'm a EAGLE that's half right, I do watch from a distance ready for disaster (with 5 kids you have to as you can't be in one place so I hover in the middle space of them all !) I don't tend to be ready with plasters or tissues though as I'm a mum who lets them play in mud, rain and snow as long as they are warm and happy then let them live is my motto, also my kids never get sick as they are out in all weather, in dirt with lots of friends which must make them immune to getting the normal colds, sore throats!! As a mum of 5 I do feel like it's feeding time in the nest as they all want to dive on the last chip or cookie just like eaglets fight for the mum eagle to share out the worms for them !!

sharmanda · 28/09/2017 21:42

My result was a 'Monkey'. It says I'm a fun mum. I was very pleased with my result and do tend to agree as I love to do lots of different things with my children, we are always doing something together. My daughters love cookery, messy play, drawing, books, dolls, dressing up,and just sitting quietly playing snap or pairs. I try and make things fun for them so they don't get bored. I do get criticism as I have worked with children for many years and have had comments about not needing to do certain things at home as I am not at work, but I love having fun with my children and watching them smile and giggle.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 28/09/2017 22:02

Eagle. It feels like the Scouts. Always Be Prepared.

tillymint21 · 28/09/2017 22:05

I'm apparently a bear, though have to say the answers didn't really work for me!

LineysRun · 28/09/2017 22:10

I gave up at q2. Answers too weird.

eightyeightmilesperhour · 28/09/2017 22:12

I'm a bear - sounds about right

usernameavailable · 28/09/2017 22:20

Eagle.

Teabagtits · 28/09/2017 22:42

I’m a bear. I may even have the middle aged
Woman beard to prove it

gemmie797 · 28/09/2017 22:50

Tortycat · 28/09/2017 22:56
