As part of our partnership with Fairy Non Bio, we’ve produced the Mumsnet Babies Podcast. There are ten episodes in the series, and so far we’ve released five. Episode four is about health, and you can listen to it here. Fairy Non Bio would like you to listen to the podcast whenever you can and then discuss your experience with commonplace baby health issues.

There’s nothing like the new found responsibility of a brand new life, and it’s easy to let anxiety take over and maybe worry too much when that new little one gets the sniffles. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about your experience with baby health. So, whether you have experience with coughs and colds, eczema, chickenpox, colic or other minor illness - share your experience below.

What do you ensure you always have in your medicine cabinet to avoid a wild goose chase for an open pharmacy on a Sunday evening? Maybe you have tips for keeping your LO comfortable and yourself sane while they’re unwell, or have advice for dealing with common ailments?

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

If you’d like to rate the Mumsnet Babies Podcast, please go to the iTunes store to add a review.

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw!

We always have plasters, cough medicine, inbuprofen tablets and liquid in the house. When the kids were really little we always had Calpol.

tubbyj · 09/05/2017 09:09

Calpol and nurofen great they have separate dosage allowances

kaycm25 · 09/05/2017 12:14

We always have calpol, piriton and plasters in the house and a small first aid kit in the car-just in case.

ISAR · 09/05/2017 12:15

I have always Calpol sachets and nasal spray in our cupboard.

Cambam2010 · 09/05/2017 12:15

We always have Ovex! If this is needed then I want it straight away I can't wait until a pharmacy opens the next day. We also have calpol and an anti-itch cream. I also have a stock of nit treatment just in case.

theresamustgo · 09/05/2017 13:12

plasters and anti-septic cream are crucial. A steamer for coughs, with eucalyptus oil is useful. Sudocrem has a lot of uses too.

Falconhoof1 · 09/05/2017 15:29

Calpol, plasters, antiseptic cream, aloe vera gel.

Sammyislost · 09/05/2017 19:06

We always have calpol, its the only one my kids will take, it can be a lifesaver sometimes, so we never run out.

We also ALWAYS have a cold pack in the fridge, a bag of peas in the freezer too!

I do like to stock up on themed plasters as well, we currently have Star Wars and Dennis the Mennis ones!

GiraffesAndButterflies · 09/05/2017 19:41

Calpol/piriton/plasters/savlon are the things I make sure we don't run out of.

If in doubt I find a dose of calpol and propping up the head end of the bed is a good starting point. Helps a lot of congestion/digestion problems to have their head a bit higher up.

sarah861421 · 09/05/2017 20:04

most things can be solved with calpol. piriton, plasters, and TCP, savlon

TJCB68 · 09/05/2017 20:06

Couldn't have got through without calpol!!

PussCatTheGoldfish · 09/05/2017 21:29

Calpol, bum cream (soothes all manner of cuts and grazes when they are older too) and keeping a stash of cloths and wipes in every room!

Oh and of course a bit of Vicks on a tissue near the cot for colds.

user1488827562 · 09/05/2017 21:46

An in ear thermometer is a must, together with calpol and anti histamine. I find a cold compress and a cuddle sorts a lot of things out too.

sbruin1122 · 09/05/2017 21:48

Don't leave medicine out!!! Even on a high shelf. They will get it somehow!

malisa · 09/05/2017 22:04

I do keep Calpol, Piriton, Sudocrem, plasters and medi wipes on stand by. You never know when could be needed. With my children loving spend more time outside this is my must have in the house.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 09/05/2017 23:35

We have the usual stock of children's paracetamol, ibuprofen and antihistamine. Along with plasters, calamine, emollients and cold compresses in the freezer for bumps and tumbles.
My piece of advice is when you've got a child sensitive to sorbitol (as I have) use half the volume of the 6+ calpol syrup as the dose that way the sorbitol diarrhoea is reduced.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 10/05/2017 10:58

Calpol, nurofen , cartoon plasters, thermometer, first aid kit,
Water filled teethers frozen for use as a cold compress or wrapped in a flannel to help bring a hot little head down to normal again.

Also the best get well soon trick I have is putting my big pink fleecy dressing gown on and wrapping them in it with me, it's known as a "big mummy cuddle" works a treat.

Rufus27 · 10/05/2017 12:57

Calpol, Neurofen and spare thermometer batteries always in store cupboard, plus spare syringes. If he is ill, I always make the bed twice over - mattress protector, sheet and repeat - so if he's sick, I can remove first layers and have a fresh bed made up underneath!
I also have a lavender and chamomile linen spray which hides 'ill' smells and is relaxing.

UpOnDown · 10/05/2017 13:36

Calpol/neurofen/piriton here!

fionatinkerbelljames · 10/05/2017 16:46

Calpol always

dontneedthesunshine · 10/05/2017 17:47

Always keep Calpol, Nurofen, plasters, Olbas Oil handy, we don't use them often so I have to check the dates from time to time, but boy when you need them you need them! Also disinfectant for if they have tummy bugs, those bugs spread so easily from child to child that good hygiene is essential.

Minnibix · 10/05/2017 20:48

Just the usual plasters, calpol, nurofen, love and hugs, and their favourite Disney film on the TV is usually all that is needed, plus plenty of fluids

svalentine60 · 10/05/2017 23:01

I always have Calpol, plasters, thermometer, albas oil, vics vapour rub, and butterfly stitches. 💛❤️💛

KavvLar · 10/05/2017 23:47

Yes to plasters, calpol, and also Ovex. DD has had thread worms and been in agony so easier to treat at night.

mamof3boys · 11/05/2017 10:08

When my children were small I would keep my medicine cabinet stocked up, especially as when one was ill you could guarantee that they'd all be ill. Now that they are a little bit older they don't get the sniffles quite as much luckily.
