As part of our partnership with Fairy Non Bio, we’ve produced the Mumsnet Babies Podcast. There are ten episodes in the series, and so far we’ve released five. Episode four is about health, and you can listen to it here. Fairy Non Bio would like you to listen to the podcast whenever you can and then discuss your experience with commonplace baby health issues.

There’s nothing like the new found responsibility of a brand new life, and it’s easy to let anxiety take over and maybe worry too much when that new little one gets the sniffles. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about your experience with baby health. So, whether you have experience with coughs and colds, eczema, chickenpox, colic or other minor illness - share your experience below.

What do you ensure you always have in your medicine cabinet to avoid a wild goose chase for an open pharmacy on a Sunday evening? Maybe you have tips for keeping your LO comfortable and yourself sane while they’re unwell, or have advice for dealing with common ailments?

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

If you’d like to rate the Mumsnet Babies Podcast, please go to the iTunes store to add a review.

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw!

Keep lots of calpol

juju3 · 25/05/2017 21:40

Seems to be just one illness after another but Calpol seems to fix most of them

rhinosuze · 25/05/2017 21:45

Calpol and plasters - never know when they'll be needed

mave · 25/05/2017 21:48

I've always got calpol, plasters, neurofen, thermometer and anti histimines !

jamielmdjs · 25/05/2017 22:16

calpol, ipubrofen, teething gel.

lhlee62 · 25/05/2017 22:20

I have been super lucky, we have had the odd cold and a few vomiting episodes so nothing more than Calpol was needed, but I also have a bottle of cough medicine in the cupboard just in case. I'm still waiting for the dreaded chicken pox!

princesssmitheee · 25/05/2017 23:32

always have calpol in the cupboard and now its summer lots of things like suncream, antiseptic wipes, etc

mamof3boys · 26/05/2017 10:00

I always keep children's paracetamol in the house, and I've got a thermometer which helps put my mind at ease when any of my children are ill.

StickChildNumberTwo · 26/05/2017 14:47

Calpol and cuddles solve most things round here. Those plug in vaporiser things get used when small people have snotty noses - I've no idea whether they actually make a difference but they make us feel like we're doing something to help!

mo3733 · 26/05/2017 15:00

its imperative to have remedies to hand for simple coughs and colds but i still believe in the old remedies of steam etc for breathing problems.

emmmaaa26 · 26/05/2017 17:04

We have stock piles of calpol & ibuprofen just like everyone else. Also plasters, antiseptic, bandages, cool packs and heat packs.

rocketriffs · 26/05/2017 17:18

Calpol is the main medicine at hand for little ones illnesses. A lot of remedies handed down over generations still apply, for instance, Vick's Vapo rub massaged into the chest at bedtime when wheezy or blocked up and Rose hip syrup which was a favourite medicine when I was little. It didn't taste yuk.

Pimmpom · 26/05/2017 18:34

Calpol, nurofen and piriton are never left to run low in this house!

meggysar · 26/05/2017 20:42

Always make sure there's a bottle of Calpol in the cupboard along with a thermometer

Eblessing · 26/05/2017 21:05

We keep stocked up on calpol... and TLC goes a long way too.

molly57 · 26/05/2017 21:09

Calpol was a life saver.

freedomofspeech · 26/05/2017 21:16

Keep socked up with the main things suchas calpol and iburpfoen but use them as little as possible so they retain their effectiveness. I try to do natural things, camomile teething powder, etc

allipratt · 26/05/2017 21:28

I'm a mum of a one year old and my experience has been one of constant worry! I mean what's normal?!? We always have stocks of calpol and nurofen, also teething powders and various creams. The freezer always has ice packs, just in case, as we are at the walking stage now ......

baconbap · 26/05/2017 21:33

Plasters and calpol

Dessallara · 26/05/2017 22:24

Calpol, teething gel, plasters :)

Marg2k8 · 26/05/2017 22:31

My children are older now, but we always had calpol in and plasters and sudocream.

lexy2009 · 26/05/2017 22:32

A mr bump kept in fridge can cure a multiple of scrapes and accidents

AutumnElla · 26/05/2017 22:38

I always make sure I have a bottle of calpol or similar and some plasters. When my kids are ill I always find a bath and then lots of cuddles helps them feel better.

fivekidsonemum · 27/05/2017 04:22

As a mum of 5 little ones my initial reaction when I saw a tiny red rash used to be ~ "Quick get them the hospital it's got to be something serious" and I'd have everyone in a panic as I maniacally fumbled to get everyone dressed and ready to go! But now I am a lot calmer because after a few embarrassing doctor visits where we've arrived only to find the rash has gone completely Blush. I have learnt to stay calm and check the rash out myself first. Now I do the glass test to see if it disappears and if its only a small patch then I bath them in just cool water no soap and see if it disappears and is due to heat rash, allergic reaction etc, check for symptoms that could mean a viral infection rash, clothes rubbing etc and if after a hour it has spread or gotten redder etc then I do take them to the doctors.
It's so easy to totally lose your head no matter if it's your 1st or 5th child and go into panic mode that your child has the most serious illness when you notice your child is sick but sometimes you have to think rationally about the cause and rule out things yourself first. I always keep a bottle of medicine for allergic reactions/hayfever etc so I'm prepared for any little rashes as 9/10 times its just the heat of them running around or a reaction to clothes or food. Even after 5 kids I find Parenting can be the most scariest experience ever they have your nerves a wreck when they are sick incase its something serious Confused

Lasplin84 · 27/05/2017 07:59

We always make sure that we have cough medicine in along with children's paraceetamol and ibuprofen as them you can alternate doses and they sort most stuff out.
