To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’ve launched The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate - as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I was all about how often you wash your bed sheets and part II is about how much you wash your bra...

Bra washing can not only be time consuming but can also require a bit of brain power. First there’s the conundrum of how to wash them, then there’s how often to wash them. Do you put them on a gentle hand-wash setting with a delicate detergent? Do you put them in a mesh bag to protect the straps from getting caught up with other items? Perhaps you only put them in a machine with other light clothing so the elastic doesn’t get stretched by towels and jeans? Or maybe you simply bung them in with everything and put them on a 40C wash? The options can make your brain hurt. So how often do you wash your bra? Are you the kind of person who can’t wear a bra more than once? Or maybe you can wear it for a week?

Whatever your bra-washing process, share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you’re waiting for the load to finish. If you avidly check out Mumsnet's talk boards, you should download the app for yourself. It's free, and allows you to be part of the conversation wherever you are!

All those who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

It used to be every few days, bunged in the wash with similar colours. Since having a baby and leaky boobs it's everyday and I can't imagine how I ever managed to wear a bra for more than one day! They aren't fancy bras so they are pretty cheap to wear, wash regularly and replace when they go a bit grim.

greathat · 01/12/2016 22:26

Go in at 40, with whichever wash matched the colour :)

smithsurvey14 · 01/12/2016 22:30

Every couple of days in an appropriate colour wash, 30 degrees for colours and hotter for whites. I don't bother with mesh bags, they are only used with sequined clothes.

GreenShadow · 01/12/2016 22:43

Worn for about 3 days.
Thrown in the washing machine with everything else - blacks with other blacks (30degrees), pinks and flesh ones with light-colours (30degrees) and white ones with other whites (60 degrees).
I don't buy expensive bras and they probably last a couple of years or so.

oneplus2is3 · 01/12/2016 23:29

In with everything else of similar colour- 40 degree wash. I aim for once a week but in reality miss the target most weeks. I've got 3 on rotation, two back and a nude- post breastfeeding I'm no longer in love with boobs- think deflated balloons (32FF back to 32 B) so bras are for functionality rather than interest these days.

Kdiva · 02/12/2016 00:23

My bras get washed after about 5 days and then just get thrown in the wash with everything else.

But might have to rethink this as just this week one bra popped in the middle whilst i was out and about, another ones wire snapped in two whilst wearing it and the one i put on today had a wire sticking out the side into my armpit!!!!

user1471543714 · 02/12/2016 02:32

I wash mine after every wear. They get thrown in with anything of similar colour. I tumble dry them too. Unsurprisingly they regularly need replacing.

sootyo · 02/12/2016 11:08

I have 2-3 to wear in different colours and wash mine once a week, on 30 degree wash .

jmszel · 02/12/2016 13:51

My nursing bras go in with everything else every couple of days , daily when fist started breastfeeding.

mater71 · 02/12/2016 16:44

I have quite a few sensible bras so I tend to wash them after 1 wearing.

I just put them in the wash with similar colours. I avoid putting them in with towels after one bra came out covered in towel fluff! Not an attractive look 😀

Normal bras (padded, underwired) go in a mesh bag per bra on gentle cycle with other delicates. I wear different bra depending on outfit & mood but never wash after one use - they go back in the bra drawer until I think it's time for a wash. Sports bras obviously get washed after each run - normal 40 or 30 degree cycle along with everything else.

n0ne · 03/12/2016 10:21

In a mesh bag but then bunged in with everything else of a similar hue. I wash most things at 30° anyway.

n0ne · 03/12/2016 10:23

Oh, forgot to say, about every couple of weeks unless it's summer (sweaty) or I've been out on the lash and had a cheeky ciggie (smoky). And always dried on a rack - I don't believe in tumble dryers

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 03/12/2016 10:34

Mine go in with any wash but in a special bra mesh bag. No real set frequency just when I think they might have been sweaty. Mmm.

lucyanntrevelyan · 03/12/2016 11:31

Mine get shoved in with everything else on a 40 degree wash, if they have an underwire I try to remember to put them in a mesh bag, but that is to prolong the life of the washing machine not the bra. I don't buy expensive bras so don't really bother doing anything special to look after them.

Oblomov16 · 03/12/2016 11:38

Bunged in with the other clothes at 40 degrees, as often as I remember - every few days / at least every week.

boptanana · 03/12/2016 21:32

Every 2 or 3 days on a 40 degree wash with everything else.

GetKnitted · 03/12/2016 22:55

M&S cotton bras are virtually indestructible, they go in the wash with similar colours (we only do darks and lights) and then in the tumble drier.

PassTheSatsumas · 04/12/2016 00:59

I will wear a bra 2-4 times before washing (but not consecutive days, to let elastic rest)

I hand wash (soak for ten min or so, swish a bit, rinse and dry over bath)

My tip to make hand washing less of a bind is to save it up and wash e.g. 4/6 bras every few weeks vs 1-2 every week : takes same time but feels more productive!

My bras are about 45£ each (f-g) and with hand washing are perfect for around 2 yrs, ok to wear for maybe 3

RueDeWakening · 04/12/2016 09:37

Mine just get bunged in with everything else - similar colours if it's lucky, otherwise a mixed load. Then dried on a radiator.

It never occurred to me to do anything different tbh... Grin

LouiseCM · 04/12/2016 10:02

After it's been worn for a day.

Candyperfumegirl · 04/12/2016 11:36

Mine just go in the regular wash with the rest of the clothes - whos got time for anything more complicated???

samcornfield · 04/12/2016 12:14

Mine gets thrown in with everything else. I do manage to not tumble dry it though

Longtalljosie · 04/12/2016 13:25

A friend of mine had an underwired bra which punctured the hose in her washing machine. Water everywhere, costly, and the plumber said it was quite a common problem. I was down the shop for a mesh bag the very next weekend!

Mine go on the delicate wash in the machine - but it does require brain power - especially in the summer - if the pale ones are all in the wash do I have e.g. black T-shirts to wear until they're dry? It's like bra Tetris...

TheFlyingFauxPas · 04/12/2016 14:08

Mine go in a mesh bag as read that washing machine warranty wasn't valid if damaged by wires. Still can't be arsed to hand wash! White with whites. Colours with colours. It is a 40 but its a fast delicates that I do my tops on. Only cheap Asda bras but they last years ☺ I only wear once, maybe twice if on holiday before washing. Actually at the moment I'm only washing at most 1 bra a week as I've got a bit lazy and can't be bothered to wear one most days Blush
