To celebrate the launch of New Pampers Baby-Dry, Pampers are working with baby sleep expert Jo Tantum - who has 25 years’ experience helping hundreds of families to achieve a peaceful night’s sleep. Jo has identified 5 sleep typologies that may help you to understand your baby’s sleep habits and needs better and we’ve been asked by Pampers to find out which sleep typology best represents your little one? Take a read and post on the thread below to be in with a chance of winning a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Here’s what Pampers has to say about their new launch: "If your little one loves to keep you awake, then you’re certainly not alone! But, having a good night’s sleep is crucial for babies; it’s when important brain development occurs and they process everything they have learnt during the day. With experts believing that wetness may impact your little one’s sleep, their overnight nappy needs to work as hard as possible; introducing New Pampers Baby-Dry, which 83% of Mumsnet parent testers said they would recommend as part of a recent trial! New Pampers Baby-Dry feature a revolutionary nappy design with 3 Absorbing Channels that distribute wetness more evenly for less wet bulk in the morning!"

To launch the New Pampers Baby-Dry nappy, Pampers are working with Jo - and want you to be involved. So, is your little one a Starfish, Skylark, Sloth, Owl or Meerkat sleeper? Take a look and let us know - and if your DC doesn’t seem to fit one of these categories, choose your own animal and post it below telling us why!

Starfish: Sleeps in the same position, on their back with legs out. Uses you as a sleep prop, for example sleep-rocking or feeding, then they don’t move. Wakes often and regularly, but does go back to sleep easily after intervention. You would rather they slept through!
Skylark: Awake early in the morning, singing and shouting and refuses to go back to sleep whatever you try!
Sloth: Loves to sleep and can sleep anywhere and everywhere. A great sleeper, day and night – lucky you! But what happens when they wake up? Well you know it’s going to be for a growth or developmental spurt or they are teething or not well.
Owl: Goes to bed late and wakes in the night. Is wide awake for long periods and can’t get back to sleep!
Meerkat: Stands up, moves around trying to get comfortable all night, doesn’t want to sleep; always on high alert. Late to bed, early to rise.

What sleep typology best represents your little one, or ones? Share your baby sleep stories – whether restful or restless, Pampers would love to hear about it! Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I had two starfish, four years apart. Grown out of it now. I miss having little ones but I don't miss the sleep disruption.

My daughter was a good sleeper.Slept like a teenager still sleeps like a teenager.

ricola1 · 29/08/2016 11:18

Nap when they nap!

farhanac · 29/08/2016 13:03

Skylark

GruffaloPants · 29/08/2016 13:16

DD1 was a shark i.e. It is beyond science to know if she actually ever slept. Luckily she has grown out of that but is still late to sleep.

So far DD2 seems to be a sloth. I think we've earned it. But she's only 4 weeks so nothing is set in stone.

MummyBtothree · 29/08/2016 14:07

Mines a Skylark which is great because I get a peaceful evening to myself but he wakes early and wants to get up which clashes with me not being a morning person! .

Queazy · 29/08/2016 15:41

My little boy is a Skylark - never fails to wake
up at least three times a night, but goes back to sleep quite easily. He's 8mo and it's starting to really take its toll now. Fingers crossed for some JL vouchers - retail therapy would be much appreciated right now SmileSmileFlowersFlowers xx

I have to say that, though contraversial, I tried the controlled crying method with my daughter and it worked from the first two nights. If it hadn't I would have stopped. She's always been able to sleep anywhere in any environment.

However, there was one time I thought she was sound asleep, when she was about 2, but she was actually decorating her walls and herself with black nail varnish!

Lisapaige24 · 29/08/2016 17:39

all my kids are sloths never really had a sleepless night all slept through from 6 weeks old but they did like to sleep across me the first few weeks but had to stop that before they got too used to it but I have always had fairly decent sleeps.

thesockgap · 29/08/2016 18:16

My youngest was definitely a skylark. He would sleep all night so we really couldn't complain too much, but it did grate a bit when he decided that 5:20am was the perfect start to the day. Every day. Even the morning after we'd been to a wedding and got home at 3:30am Shock

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 29/08/2016 19:07

Both of mine are skylarks, as is dh. I think it's genetic.

LeeR1985 · 29/08/2016 19:47

My daughter is definitely a Skylark. Always has been and always will be! She's getting a bit older now so soon enough she'll be able to sort her own breakfast so I can sleep in haha

UpOnDown · 29/08/2016 20:15

Definitely a meerkat!

MAT12 · 29/08/2016 20:22

Our DD is an owl and remains an owl no matter what we try

ohlittlepea · 29/08/2016 20:43

I have a gorgeous little owl...we even had an owl.themed first birthday party because she is the queen of the non sleepers!

cookie09 · 29/08/2016 21:38

My twins are like starfish, always all over the place. They must take after their mummy however i fit in that category and also the sloth as i love to sleep. No doubt they'll be the same!

compy99 · 29/08/2016 23:31

Sloth from 11 weeks onwards

Belmo · 29/08/2016 23:34

Starfish (and he really does sleep like a starfish, all spread out!).
To be fair, his sleep is really not that bad - up once or twice for a feed at four months.
Current challenge is naps - he'd nap all day on me or in the sling/car, but I'm lucky to get 20 minutes if I put him down. I love the cuddles, but now his sister's back at school it'd be so good to get things done while he sleeps!

OfstedAintEverything · 30/08/2016 08:13

My youngest is a definite starfish!...
He comes in our bed far too often and just splays out.
I'm ashamed tonsay our solution was to get a kingsize bed! Hope he stops before he's 18.....

SuzCG · 30/08/2016 08:57

I have a Sloth and a Meerkat - if only they were the same or similar, life would be so much more straight forward...

Paddingtonthebear · 30/08/2016 12:33

Bit of a Sloth here. Loves her sleep! Can't complain!

Pmliu · 30/08/2016 14:58

Mines a starfish, I have 3 little ones, they seem to take turns waking me up, one falls back asleep easily but wakes up throughout the night, the other takes ages to fall asleep but mostly sleeps through the night & my youngest wakes me up when she wants a feed

TwllBach · 30/08/2016 15:42

Mine is a sloth. He sleeps from 8-7.30 now (16 weeks) and has done for two weeks. Before that, he would go from 9-5 so still quite good!! He also naps a lot during the day... Definitely counting my blessings here as I am happiest going to bed at 10 and waking at 7!!

Lulabellx1 · 30/08/2016 16:48

We have a Skylark here! Yawn...

anaaugusto1992 · 30/08/2016 17:56

My one is a Sloth during the night and meerkat during the day! He sleeps from 9pm to 8am all night no interruptions but then during the day doesn't want to nap at all! He's got double personality for sure!
