To celebrate the launch of New Pampers Baby-Dry, Pampers are working with baby sleep expert Jo Tantum - who has 25 years’ experience helping hundreds of families to achieve a peaceful night’s sleep. Jo has identified 5 sleep typologies that may help you to understand your baby’s sleep habits and needs better and we’ve been asked by Pampers to find out which sleep typology best represents your little one? Take a read and post on the thread below to be in with a chance of winning a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Here’s what Pampers has to say about their new launch: "If your little one loves to keep you awake, then you’re certainly not alone! But, having a good night’s sleep is crucial for babies; it’s when important brain development occurs and they process everything they have learnt during the day. With experts believing that wetness may impact your little one’s sleep, their overnight nappy needs to work as hard as possible; introducing New Pampers Baby-Dry, which 83% of Mumsnet parent testers said they would recommend as part of a recent trial! New Pampers Baby-Dry feature a revolutionary nappy design with 3 Absorbing Channels that distribute wetness more evenly for less wet bulk in the morning!"

To launch the New Pampers Baby-Dry nappy, Pampers are working with Jo - and want you to be involved. So, is your little one a Starfish, Skylark, Sloth, Owl or Meerkat sleeper? Take a look and let us know - and if your DC doesn’t seem to fit one of these categories, choose your own animal and post it below telling us why!

Starfish: Sleeps in the same position, on their back with legs out. Uses you as a sleep prop, for example sleep-rocking or feeding, then they don’t move. Wakes often and regularly, but does go back to sleep easily after intervention. You would rather they slept through!
Skylark: Awake early in the morning, singing and shouting and refuses to go back to sleep whatever you try!
Sloth: Loves to sleep and can sleep anywhere and everywhere. A great sleeper, day and night – lucky you! But what happens when they wake up? Well you know it’s going to be for a growth or developmental spurt or they are teething or not well.
Owl: Goes to bed late and wakes in the night. Is wide awake for long periods and can’t get back to sleep!
Meerkat: Stands up, moves around trying to get comfortable all night, doesn’t want to sleep; always on high alert. Late to bed, early to rise.

What sleep typology best represents your little one, or ones? Share your baby sleep stories – whether restful or restless, Pampers would love to hear about it! Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My older son was exhausting, awake every two hours, just as I managed to bet back off to sleep! Ahhhh! Younger son slept 4 hourly from birth ( bigger baby, so that helped, combined with bottle feeding). Sleep is sooo precious and I appreciate my sleep now they are much older!!

vonniebab2 · 28/08/2016 19:19

Mine was definitely an Owl with us all losing lots of sleep!

Cailin7 · 28/08/2016 19:45

All of mine Skylarks. I still rise early!

mave · 28/08/2016 20:00

Both of mine are skylarks! Always up early no matter what, but go to bed well and sleep through so can't complain!

Maclairey · 28/08/2016 20:29

Mine has traits of an hour and a skylark. My eldest goes to bed ok but will come into my bed at some point in the night. If I try and put him back to his own bed, he will tantrum. My youngest goes to bed fairly easily but wakes up most nights several times a night. They are both up before the birds in the morning. The last two days this has been 4:45am. They wont go back to sleep either. I have definitely lucked out with two rubbish sleepers. DH and I are constantly exhausted.

I have always used Pampers, briefly tried different brands but always come back to Pampers, they are most definitely the best.

seeingdouble2 · 28/08/2016 20:40

my daughter is a Owl, description details her down to a T :)

kittykomp · 28/08/2016 21:00

definitely a starfish

Gazelda · 28/08/2016 21:27

Mine was a little ostrich - bum In the air, face down.
She also loved to be a starfish on her back with legs splayed.
She was a fantastic little sleeper, and I know I'm very lucky. Whenever she needed soothing, I stroked her cheek.

Tkw2014 · 28/08/2016 21:37

When he sleeps through (90%) of the time - he is a skylark. Wakes about 6am happily singin away to himself in his bedroom. But the rest of the time he is an Owl - waking in the night for some strange reason and then taking a couple of hours to get back to sleep!!

aimeecmp · 28/08/2016 21:57

DD1&2 are both Sloths... BUT... both have never been able to sleep without me present. They both like to tug my hair to go to sleep. DD2 is in bed with me but I've managed to get DD1 in her bed, only took 5 years Sad

annarack99 · 28/08/2016 22:09

Sloth

Goldenvalley · 28/08/2016 22:20

None of these. She changes every week or so and I never know what I'm in for. So some hybrid of all of them I guess.

pfcpompeysarah · 28/08/2016 22:20

They don't have 'nightmare' as a choice!!! My son didn't sleep through until he was one, and woke up every few hours during the night, as a single parent it was blinking exhausting, and as I used to put him to bed at 7, guaranteed he would start crying just as I was grabbing a bit of tea for myself when I finally had finished washing, ironing, cleaning etc etc.. thank god he has got older and is definitely an owl now, like me!

KittyKat88 · 28/08/2016 22:54

Starfish - yep, I was definitely that sleep prop!!

lhlee62 · 28/08/2016 22:55

I've got 2 sloths, DD1 dropped a night feed at 3 weeks so would do 7-8 hours, then at 3 mths she went to doing 12+ hours a night. When I was due the second one I was a bit worried as I was used to getting my beauty sleep, but she was even better 6-7 hours from birth and then 3 days before she turned 2 mths she did 12 hours!! They rarely wake up during the night, but will happily got back to sleep without anything more than a kiss goodnight and being tucked into bed. I refused to sit in their rooms or stay with them until they were asleep so I just used to put them down awake (sleepy) and kiss them goodnight. Also I breastfed even though everyone said they wouldn't sleep much!

AgentPineapple · 28/08/2016 23:06

My twins are definitely meerkats! Murder to get them down at night and then they are restless all night. Myself and DH take it night about to get up with them and then whoever got to sleep that night gets the early rise in the morning. It works to a certain extent but we are both very tired. We also have a 6 year old and need to find energy to do things with him. Our twins did go through a stage of sleeping right through between 4 and 7 months but they are 13 months old today and showing no signs of going back to sleeping through the night! We could cope with the earlier rises (between 5am and 6am) if we were getting proper sleep!

Beautifulmind20 · 29/08/2016 00:59

Both my little girls are poor sleepers. my DD1 has special needs, she has been taking lots of medications for her sleep but nothing working so far . She is Owl .
My DD2 is Meerkat. I have tried lots of thinks with her like lavender oil , same music all night, lots of sunlight during the day and body massage But nothin seems to be working.
Hopefully I will get better night sleep soon.

123julie321 · 29/08/2016 01:32

DD is definitely a Sloth. My biggest problem is that she often rolls over onto her tummy. It causes me such distress. I always place her on her back when I put her down to sleep but when I check on her, she has almost always rolled onto her front, an I have to continually adjust her position. Thank goodness she sleeps through it.

KARMAisaBtch · 29/08/2016 05:00

Mine is owl for the first 8 weeks and now it's a sloth (17 weeks).

Started owl as apparently she was a bit colicky,

So I have managed to learn the proper exercise to prevent her being gassy so now she sleeps very well like a sloth and when she is awake she has lots of energy and likes to play with mummy and daddy. Smile

becky004 · 29/08/2016 05:04

My DS is a sloth and DD is an owl

slievers · 29/08/2016 05:52

DC1 was definitely a starfish!

DC2 is only 9 weeks but looking to become a sloth, she has slept through the night just waking the once since she was 1 week old

horseylady · 29/08/2016 07:23

Meercat here.

Both of them!!

Sadly husband is a sloth.

Emgrace · 29/08/2016 07:34

A skylark, he goes to sleep a 7.30 lovely but wakes so early ready for the day bright eyed!

Havingkittens04 · 29/08/2016 08:06

I had a starfish in the womb and at 3.5 she hasn't changed! Arms and legs seemingly trying to fight their way out of my belly, then fighting to escape the baby sleeping bag thingy, now I'm constantly tucking her legs back inside the duvet throughout the night. Still, I wouldn't change the 2.5 years we had, breastfeeding to sleep, for the world Star x

jacqui5366 · 29/08/2016 08:31

My son was mostly like a Sloth with the occasion series of broken nights with the odd temperature. He is a great night sleeper and usually sleeps for 10 - 12 hours at night. I feel blessed as most of my friends babies wake or are early risers, so I sympathise with those who are sleep deprived, persevere with a routine and it will come.
