These days, parenting tips are available from a wealth of sources and sometimes it can be tricky to know who to listen to. The team at Nurofen for Children would love to hear who you turn to for the best parenting advice and why you trust or listen to them most of all.

Here's what Nurofen for Children says,"Being a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, full of challenges and triumphs at every stage. We understand seeking advice from a variety of sources is an important part of feeling confident in the decisions you make for your children, so we’d love to hear who you turn to for advice (and the reasons you love the tips they give)".

So please share on this thread your best sources of advice: whether it's a trusted friend who has been there and done that, your own mum, your health visitor, a magazine or blog, the content pages or talk boards on MN Wink etc. They'd also like to know why you love that source of advice so much - perhaps you could share the best advice you've been given and why it worked for you.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

My mum, I really admire how she brought me up :)

elvisthehamster · 16/02/2016 22:10

It depends but general advice-My mum, other friends with DC's similar age and Mumsnet as there is always a thread to help!
Definitely helps to have some sort of parent network whether it is 'real life' or on a parenting forum.
For medical advise I would always check Health visitor/doctor/chemist.

BL0SS0M · 16/02/2016 23:43

my friends as we all have kids at the same age and so are all going through the same experiences and different stages together so it's good to chat to them for advice

GeorgiePorgie123 · 17/02/2016 02:12

I turn to my Grandma ormy Auntie. My grandma had 5 children and was a teacher so has a wide experience. My Auntie has had 2 children and a very similar parenting style to me.

fm201069 · 17/02/2016 07:54

has to be mumsnet

steviestarship · 17/02/2016 11:12

My mum because she had me and I've turned out ok!

robbo86otm · 17/02/2016 12:02

I turn to my mum, she's been there and done it all and raised her children quite sucessfully and generally is a sensible person who gives good advice

Bechoole · 17/02/2016 15:48

My Mum and Dad - they have been there and done it!

angiehoggett · 17/02/2016 16:30

My mum because she's not judgemental, she tells me the truth and gives really good advice!

myusername12345 · 17/02/2016 16:50

For medical advice, just healthcare professionals. For the other stuff, friends who are already mums, and my siblings.

MrsMarigold · 17/02/2016 18:13

Things have changed since my Mum had kids so if it is a health issue I speak to my pharmacist, then if they think it merits a trip to the GP I call before popping down to the surgery, I'm not a neurotic mum so it's rare I call.

Otherwise, I rely on instincts, mumsnet and the parenting books when my children were tiny my go to was this book but these days it is a broad range.

MrsMarigold · 17/02/2016 18:15

And I do give Nurofen, especially if my DC have a fever as it workers faster than paracetamol based syrups in bringing it down fast.

RosaDiazepam · 17/02/2016 19:24

My mum Smile

I've never been more thankful for the internet than I was after having my son! I've been able to google all manner of things & access loads of advice on a range of issues - sleeping, weaning, nappy rash, etc. Mumsnet & Netmums are my main ports of call - sometimes just finding someone who has had a similar parenting experience to you is really reasurring, enough to make you breathe a sigh of relief & access that last bit of energy to soldier on during the tougher times! x

claza93 · 18/02/2016 07:43

My mum - kind but brutally honest! She is fab with my children - loves them to pieces but wouldn't let them get away with anything x

Kirstyh87 · 18/02/2016 09:07

I try to listen to friends or people that I work with who have children around the same age as well.

Xylophonejo · 18/02/2016 09:33

I usually turn to Dr Google first as you can ask anything without feeling embarrassed! Then depending on what Google comes up with I check X with friends/mumsent or obviously doctor if more serious.

reenu26 · 18/02/2016 09:40

I generally consult my mum and my aunt(she is a doctor) and also check online forums!

cjsohal · 18/02/2016 11:23

I don't always turn to family, they usually chime in with their advice even when it's not asked for. lol. However I do turn to an expert and author called Dr. Becky Bailey who created www.ConsciousDiscipline.com as her approach is very subtle and deals with discipline using love and understanding as the primary tools. She is American but the advice is really good (Go look up the book). Smile

sjl19 · 18/02/2016 12:25

Usually my sister; she has children just slightly older than mine, so has recent experience.

foxessocks · 18/02/2016 15:22

I find sites like mumsnet very useful for advice but I also often speak to my friends who have children the same age. My mum is good for reassurance but she doesn't give advice unless I specifically ask because I'm sure she thinks I want to do things my way!

PigInMuck86 · 18/02/2016 17:45

Depends on what the issue is! I ask my MIL a lot as she has raised three children and is now raising her grandsons and always gives good advice

becky004 · 18/02/2016 19:12

My great-aunt, as I lost my own parents when I was young, and she became my surrogate mum, helping me through difficult times and always on hand to offer great advice.

Jade5093 · 18/02/2016 19:40

My mum of course.. she raised me good ❤

lemonymelanie · 18/02/2016 21:53

My sister. I was her bossy big sister when we were growing up but she had children before me and our own mum is dead - she is the first person I turn to for advice - it's like our roles are reversed, she's now the older, wiser
(bossy!) one. :-)
