As part of the Disney Healthy Living campaign, this week Disney are launching their new #HealthilyEverAfter week. They’d love to hear about what your top tips are for encouraging your family to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Here’s what Disney says “We know parents can find it a challenge to ensure their children are eating well and being active - and when they are trying to get their whole family to develop good habits, we believe Disney can help make it fun and simple. The #HealthilyEverAfter campaign uses the power of our stories and characters to inspire these behaviours and encourage parents to share their tips with other families around the UK”

So, how do you encourage your family to embrace a healthier lifestyle? Maybe you’ve created some fun games to get your DCs to keep active? Or perhaps you try to make sure your children are getting a balanced diet and try new foods? Whatever you do to encourage your family to be healthy Disney would love to hear about it.

For more information on the Disney Healthily Ever After campaign and how can you use Disney as inspiration to encourage your family to be healthy, take a look at the video below:

Please note: Disney may well use your anonymous comments on their website, on social media as well as possibly elsewhere.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered in to a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Disney Store voucher.

Thanks & good luck,
MNHQ

We found canoeing expeditions and walks in the Wye Valley excellent.
Made everything fun!

Lvm2013mk · 13/02/2016 14:56

We've bought a fruit bowl with a difference! It's a like a chute, so you place apples, oranges etc in the top and when you take one from the bottom they move down. It's quite a fun twist and the kids love it, but we do too.

Also we got a blender and enjoy making smoothies together as a family :)

piggyliggy2015 · 13/02/2016 14:56

we try and eat as much fresh healthy food as we can - my baby girl has a low salt and sugar diet. We also go on family walks to the park, enjoying being outside together

I think that presenting healthy living as just the normal way of life is the best way forward. This is what we eat, this is what we do, and the fact that its healthy is a bonus! A normal healthy diet with occasional treats, but with no big deal made out of it. Getting outdoors and getting lots of exercise is what we like to do, so it doesn't really need much extra effort! You feel so good for doing it!

ThemisA · 13/02/2016 16:19

I make a two week menu plan, shop for what we need using a list and don't stock much junk. If we want a treat we either have it out or make it ourselves. We have a dog and walk the dog twice a day.

KIRANKAUR1985 · 13/02/2016 16:21

Eat a variety of foods, I usually get my daughter involved in cooking, eat healthy with her, she will generally always want what I am eating, I try and take her out once a day to the park or garden and encourage her to play sports.

Try and make food fun, we also make as much as possible from scratch, as you can adapt recipes to make them healthier, using low fat margarine instead of butter and you can control the size. We both make pictures out of the food, especially salad faces.

Lastly we always have water with our food, it's something I have done all my life just because that's what we did when we were younger and I want to instill the same healthy habits in my daughter.

By going on cycles and walks as a family

jeminem48 · 13/02/2016 17:06

I swear by my slow cooker and use it for soups, casseroles, stews and curry's. I encourage my little girl to eat the same things me and her Dad do by showing her the ingredients that go in and let her see how different they come out once they are cooked. She loves fruit and veg and I like to try her with different fruits and let her pick the ones she thinks look nice from the supermarket. We go for walks in the park with my Mom and her dog and she loves swimming and knows Mommy goes to aquanatal because exercise is good for me and the baby

goose1964 · 13/02/2016 17:09

don't buy biscuits, crisps etc. If they're not in th house they don't get eaten

freefan · 13/02/2016 17:12

We go on lots of walks as a family and collect various twigs, leaves etc for using in art projects so the kids look forward to getting out.
I've also discovered that turning our local park into a little bit of an assault course for them is a lot of fun - up and down slide, run round the tree at the end of the grass, find a leaf on the grass then try and catch dad to give it to him, all the time they are running around and having fun - fantastic
and free.

alabaster002 · 13/02/2016 17:47

Little by little - a walk instead of a short car journey; smaller food portions; a piece of chocolate rather than a bar; a walk in the park rather than a sit in front of the TV. Every little adds up!

LeeR1985 · 13/02/2016 17:49

I decided to start being healthy just before the new year and stopped buying fizzy drinks, chocolate and sweets. Now I only have fruit and sugar-free juice in the house. I started doing exercises at home to try and lose a bit of weight so I get my daughter to help out. She counts for me during the harder exercises and I get her to do basic ones like stretching, sits up and push ups with me. She loves it!

Anderson8 · 13/02/2016 18:31

I cook the same food for the kids as we eat and we go on "adventures" rather than walks

arat · 13/02/2016 19:18

I do the food shopping, so if it isn't healthy it doesn't get bought!
Also, refuse to take the car on the school run (unless it's below about -4!) so DCs get two bits of exercise each day.

garyi · 13/02/2016 19:47

all sitting down to eat together, and making the time to cook from scratch

Silvercomp · 13/02/2016 20:13

We grow our own vegetables, getting the kids involved means they really want to eat what they have grown. I hide vegetables in pasta dishes, bolognase etc. I make exercise fun by using competition, can you run to there and back, can you run faster than me. Most importantly join in with them, exercise together

littleme96 · 13/02/2016 20:56

We only have 1 car so we walk pretty much everywhere.

Since getting our dog, we have been out walking loads and the children know that the dog needs regular exercise and that means we are doing a good job of looking after him. This has meant less moaning during long walks and when the weather is rubbish, because they know we need to keep him healthy and stimulated.

Geocaching is also a great way of getting them excited about doing exercise because it's part of a big treasure hunt/adventure.

hannonle · 13/02/2016 21:43

I think it's good to explain about how food helps your body work better, eg meat makes your muscles strong, broccoli is full of vitamins etc.

Things like toothbrushing are easier if you make it a game or have some fun rather than demanding it be done.

Getting out and about is easy if you do things like nature hunts, scavenger hunts, or eye spy. Lately we have been taking out a camera and getting the kids to take photos when we go for a walk. The excitement of taking pictures makes a walk sound more fun, esp when it's cold and - lets be honest - nicer to stay indoors in the warm!

emms88 · 13/02/2016 22:03

Make going outside fun, a patch of garden of their own, family bike rides and walks to feed the ducks.

pfcpompeysarah · 13/02/2016 22:05

Keep things fun and make being active feel like its the norm, we are lucky to live near the sea and there are nice walks nearby so we often head out to the beach for a walk or to play a game of footie on the common opposite. With regard to food I think soups are a great way to get kids to eat healthy foods, the blender is your friend.

emmamed123 · 13/02/2016 22:30

walk the school run. we've recently been walking the school run and I am finding we are talking more, while doing it. When in the car, we hardly chat. But walking we are taking about what we see along our travels.

shivbrown · 13/02/2016 22:36

Eating healthy meals and going for walks together, I used to live a very unhealthy lifestyle, Sitting down all day, eating lots and always driving than walking, Last year I thought I cant live like this so ate clean, Gymed 5 times a week and lost 5 stone :)

My children benefit from it, I benefit from it and we are all just so happy and healthy, Where before my children would want to eat what mummy would eat normally chips, Now they eat sweet Potato, Rice cakes instead of crisps and Brown bread instead of white.

My whole life has changed and my children have defiantly benefited as have my family as im no longer depressed about my weight.

Since I have lost 5 stone my mum is swimming more, my friends are asking for diet tips and my husband is living a healthier lifestyle as are my children.

I'm feeling very blessed and happy how things have changed over the last 12 months x

We are encouraging a passion for sport, our DC will grow up in a sporting environment but we know how important it is not to push anything onto DC. They may or may not be interested but introducing them to sports, teaching basic skills like throwing, catching, water confidence and balance at a young age will give them a good start and confidence if sport's something they'd like to get into.

We are also introducing a wide variety of food, but as with sport, nothing is pushed at DC.

hahahehe · 13/02/2016 23:00

I like to get the kids out for a lovely long family bike ride.
