In honour of Cadbury launching their biggest ever advent calendar, Cadbury would like to know what gets you and your family into the Christmas spirit in the countdown to Christmas.

Here's what they say "This year we’re launching Cadbury’s biggest ever advent calendar and setting out to bring even more joy to the countdown this Christmas. 24 trucks, 24 doors, opening daily in 24 different locations, we’reringing joyful festive surprises to the nation on the countdown to Christmas. While we’re counting down, we’re also keen to hear from Mumsnetters about what you and your families do in the countdown before Christmas"

Find out about the Cadbury advent calendar by watching the video below:

So, what traditions do you and your family have to get that Christmas feeling? Do you spend an evening putting up a Christmas tree? Maybe decorating Christmas cookies is your favourite family activity? Or perhaps you all gather around the TV to watch a particular Christmas movie?

Whatever your pre-Christmas traditions are, Cadbury would love to know.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

I always make sausage rolls just before Christmas which puts me in the mood!

MissChrisOfficial · 30/11/2015 13:48

We decorate the tree then snuggle up with a Christmas movie and hot chocolate. We Enjoy attending all of the local light switch on events.

On Christmas eve we make and decorate a gingerbread house.

We always celebrate Christmas eve with family games

Joan049 · 30/11/2015 15:09

On Christmas Eve evening we always have hot ginger wine and roast pork sandwiches while filling the childrens Christmas stockings. My grandparents started the tradition in the 1930s. The smell of the roasting pork and the stuffing in preparation for Christmas day fills the house with an aroma that always reminds me of Christmas. Several years ago we added mulled wine to our choice of drinks and last Christmas my niece, who now has her first child, insisted it was her turn to host "the wrapping up party" and roast pork was replaced by pulled pork. Seems the tradition will continue and evolve.

We have a lot of little traditions in our house a few of my favourites are.. I always put the Christmas tree up when my daughters are in bed so that when they wake up everything is in place and the house looks lovely and Christmassy! But then the following day we put trees up in both of my daughters rooms and my eldest helps me to do this! Then in the afternoon we all get snuggled up with some treats and watch some Christmas films (Usually Home Alone!) My newest tradition I started last year and is our Christmas Eve boxes! I put new pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers in as well as some bubble bath/bath bombs for a nice bubble bath, I then put a Christmas film in along with some chocolates and popcorn, then some sticker and colouring books and a bedtime story (all to make the hours before bedtime enjoyable and also go quicker! (we all remember how long Christmas Eve seemed to be when you are younger!) And finally I put a Christmas themed soft toy in which my little girls take to bed with them (this is their favourite bit!) last year we had a fluffy Rudolph and this year its a personalised Christmas Gingerbread Man!

andreaca · 30/11/2015 16:05

Mew pj`s for everyone on chritmas evem santa claus the movie and a takeaway for us all.

Magnificunt · 30/11/2015 16:08

We all choose a new bauble for the tree every year just before we put it up. The DC love looking at the ones they've chosen previous years as we hang them on the tree.

Then on Christmas Eve we have a buffet tea with grandparents before the elf leaves a parcel on the doorstep (you can't see him, he's very shy!). He always brings a box of cookie mix so we can make cookies for Santa, some reindeer food, new pyjamas and hot chocolate.

Aww, I can't wait now!

snare · 30/11/2015 16:16

we love going to the christmas eve service :)

sadiewoohoo · 30/11/2015 16:20

We each open a small pressie on xmas eve evening just to whet our appetite for the big day. Then its milk and cookies out for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer :) All very traditional for us.

laurapotz · 30/11/2015 16:50

I have made an advent calendar with pockets for my 2 yo dd. Instead of chocolate in each pocket I am putting a slip of paper telling her something Christmassy we are doing that day. One day it will be decorating the tree, another is pottery painting, another day we are making bird seed christmas decorations to hang in the garden, another day we will choose food to donate to the food bank so tat other people can have a nice Christmas, etc. I am trying to make every day in the run up to Christmas get her in the Christmas spirit.

PhilTB54 · 30/11/2015 18:13

Xmas Light viewing. Going to homes and town centers that put on a good display of lights.

LisaMumsnet · 30/11/2015 18:18

My DH and I put up a Toffee Tree, but really it's just a bare branch that we tie lots of toffees, sweets and chocolates (of course!) to. It looks very festive and having edible decorations saves space in our loft!

Crown · 30/11/2015 18:38

We watch lots of festive films in the lead up to Christmas.

matphil · 30/11/2015 19:16

We decorate the beginning of December then spend each weekend until Christmas making decorations. We visit Winter Wonderland and Father Christmas.

windowmouse · 30/11/2015 19:41

We always have home-made curry on christmas eve and a few drinks to start the festive season

funkyfreks · 30/11/2015 19:47

We put the tree up on the 3rd of December. Our daughters birthday she puts the angel on the top and makes a wish.

caz123456 · 30/11/2015 19:48

We begin our festivities by attending our church fair and listening to the brass band play Carols.

kaycm25 · 30/11/2015 20:02

We like to bake cookies for Santa (with a few for us) on Christmas Eve. [santa]

dtsar60 · 30/11/2015 20:25

Once the Christmas decorations are up the next thing to get us fully into the Christmas mood is to attend at least one carol service.

mercede5 · 30/11/2015 20:30
