So, what traditions do you and your family have to get that Christmas feeling? Do you spend an evening putting up a Christmas tree? Maybe decorating Christmas cookies is your favourite family activity? Or perhaps you all gather around the TV to watch a particular Christmas movie?

Whatever your pre-Christmas traditions are, Cadbury would love to know.

We spend a day decorating the house and putting the tree up and then a separate day is devoted to writing cards and various lists, with the help of some nice mulled wine and mince pies.

Flapdoodles · 26/11/2015 21:11

Home made Christmas cards.
Going to the pantomime.
Decorating the Christmas tree.
Watching Christmas movies.
School Christmas Concert.

All done as a family and usually includes chocolate.

frist sunday of december me, the hubby and kids go to the local restaurant for breakfast with Santa we have been going for the pass 10 years.

TeacherKS1 · 26/11/2015 21:33

DS1's birthday is on Christmas Eve so we concentrate on him all day and have a big family lunch. I put up birthday bunting as well as a Christmas tree. He will be 8 this year and so far he loves his Christmas birthday as the house is all decorated and looks lovely.

We all have brand new Christmas themed pyjamas to open in the evening and go off to different rooms to get changed, then all meet up in the living room to admire each others pjs. This started when we had our first baby and on Christmas morning we took loads of photos without realising she was wearing a faded, stained babygro. She just looked gorgeous to me but the pjs looked awful!

On Christmas morning the DC open their stockings with us and we have a late breakfast.
We live by the sea so always try to go for a walk along the beach on Christmas day, then home to watch a Christmas film and eat chocolate.

We normally go to my parents for Christmas, who put the sparkles on and start to sing a very inappropriate version of Twinkle, twinkle little star. Thankfully DS cannot speak the language very well. My late Godfather used to sing this version and my very elderly DF clearly misses all his late siblings.

peakypie · 26/11/2015 22:19

we'll have a weekend of decorating the xmas tree, and putting up copious amounts of paperchains and other decorations. we've got a beautiful pop-up book of 'the night before xmas' which the kids absolutely love and i can't wait to get it out again this xmas! roll on december! x

PennyPants · 26/11/2015 22:35

Christmas baking is a favourite tradition. Me and DD make biscuits and cakes to decorate. We also make a chocolate log and gingerbread house.
We all like to go into the town when they switch the Christmas lights on , there is music, stalls, late night shopping. It's a really nice atmosphere.
We always go to the pub on NYE, they do a brilliant disco.

queenoftheschoolrun · 26/11/2015 22:38

We go to a local Christmas tree farm to choose our tree and then start our Christmas crafts. DD makes presents for all our family members, this year she's decorated mugs and made some keyrings. She'll also make cards for her teachers and lots of decorations.

There's a school Christmas fair with a Santa's grotto on the last weekend of November and when she gets home from that she's allowed to get the box of Christmas books and toys down from the attic!

With all the excitement at school with the nativity play, choir performances, panto visit and disco we'll all be exhausted by the end of term and hopefully spend some lazy days with friends and family before the Big Day.

ILoveMyCaravan · 26/11/2015 23:30

Now they're old enough, both DCs put together the Christmas tree by themselves (although I always decorate it!). It's a fake one, but very realistic and massive. The living room is decorated with Christmas decorations but the conservatory gets the full birthday treatment as DS1's birthday is on Christmas Day!

HappyMum4 · 27/11/2015 11:54

We buy or make a new decoration every year so eventually when the kids leave home, they will have a collection of their own to take away with them and put on their own Christmas tree. We also have a new pair of christmas pj's every year which they wear on Christmas Eve.

muddymary · 27/11/2015 12:24

We have a Christmas eve box. It has a Christmas dvd in, the picture book of the night before christmas, new pyjamas for everyone, santa's plate & a mass bar of chocolate which we melt into a lovely glass of hot chocolate. I take the kids to a kids carol service then we go home and open the box and have a lovely christmassy evening. Lush!

Eva50 · 27/11/2015 14:56

On Christmas Eve we deliver our local presents and then get a Chinese takeaway and watch a film. Before children I used to go to the midnight carol service and would love to do this again but the boys don't want to go out again and I've usually been at the wine.

HeadDreamer · 27/11/2015 16:22

Oh I don't know if it's tradition. But we put up the tree and decorations around the house in the first weekend of December. We also have an fill-your-own advent calendar with various things I purchased. I went shopping today and purchased a bunch of rings, hair ties and craft bits and bobs for it. Can't wait.

gin33333 · 27/11/2015 17:22

It would have to be mince pies for me as they give me the feeling of christmas as im sure these are more popular at christmas christmas songs get me geared up for christmas too :)

mwatmough · 27/11/2015 17:46

we go to our local xmas lights switch on, sing xmas carols have some mulled wine and a mince pie

Generation1979 · 27/11/2015 19:35

Lego advent calendars are our family tradition. The elves bring them!

Nigglenaggle · 27/11/2015 21:34

We go to a Christmas tree farm to get our tree. They have reindeer and turkeys (live!) and a grotto and it's all quite festive. I'm a big fan of Christmas music and play it until DH goes crazy :D Christmas morning breakfast is bacon butties and sparkling wine before going to see the family :)

Nigglenaggle · 27/11/2015 21:34

Oh definitely another on the fill your own advent calendar train!

flozza42 · 28/11/2015 08:29

We decorate the tree the first weekend in December and this always gets us in the Christmas mood X

LinnyBee · 28/11/2015 13:24

We always buy new pyjamas for each of us to wear on Christmas eve, and sit toasting marshmallows with a mug of hot chocolate Grin

Loula117 · 28/11/2015 16:02

Buying the tree and decorating the house are the most exciting bits, and we always do panto. We also like going into London to see the Christmas lights/look at the department store windows, and I am trying to instigate a rule where I get to go to Liberty's Christmas dept and buy a new fancy decoration for the tree every year!

Anneb62 · 28/11/2015 17:32

We love christmas,on Christmas Eve we go into George Square Glasgow,we go skating, ride the big wheel, watch christmas movies on the big screen and listen to live music it is magical,we wrap up warm and so enjoy the excitement and atmosphere.

ataraxia · 28/11/2015 17:49

We tend to leave the decorating to Christmas Eve, meaning it's sometimes hard to find a Christmas tree! We pull the decorations down from the loft and watch Home Alone 2, if possible. Usually break open the Quality Street or After Eights

mkinsey · 28/11/2015 19:59

We do a lot of baking in the run up to Christmas. We also make a trip to the local garden centre to see the Christmas displays. And we have Christmas CDs on constantly!

dickinson13 · 28/11/2015 21:25

We all help to put up the tree and decorate it while listening to Christmas music. In the run up to Christmas we then like to watch lots of Christmas films, particularly Elf and Arthur Christmas.
