Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Friday night happens to the best time for me with my family/kids along with some popcorns, chocolates (Cadburys ofcourse) and some movie time. We love cuddling together along with all the above good stuffs.

BreeVDKamp · 08/10/2015 17:41

Pizza, box of Milk Tray and a movie please!! It's been a long time thanks to baby DS...

christmasmum · 08/10/2015 17:42

Saturday night is family night - we take it in turns to pick what we do from watching films to playing board games or putting on the disco ball and dancing round like loons.

When it's film night we snuggle under a blanket, if it's cold we light the fire, and we eat popcorn, chocolate and ice cream - sometimes combined.

Heaven!

angryangryyoungwoman · 08/10/2015 17:42

Erm..... As a single mum, my idea of a perfect family night in is for my daughter to be in bed and for me to be sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine watching mad men.

toptomatoes · 08/10/2015 17:42

Every Saturday is film night. The kids have a bath then come back down in big, fluffy onesies and snuggle under a blanket to watch a film. They have ice cream or popcorn. When the film has finished, the littlest 2 go to bed and the oldest stays up and we play a board game or top trumps or do a puzzle.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 08/10/2015 17:43

DS has just turned 3 and we're just starting trying to set up these traditions. Saturday night is now homemade pizza night, be loves making one for each of us then we snuggle up to watch a movie.

ALemonyPea · 08/10/2015 17:43

One Sunday a month we do a chill day where we get up late (any time past 8 is a bonus) and have bacon sandwiches for breakfast. We play board games and then have a huge roast dinner. After dinner we watch films for the rest of the day, usually a theme around them. Then for tea I make a little buffet and we have crisps, dips and chocolate while watching another film.

Nobody gets dressed and it's lovely. Usually better in the winter when we can snuggle under duvets.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 08/10/2015 17:44

Like many other posters, our family nights in involve watching a film - generally either Frozen or Cinderella. We always have a big bag of crisps or Pringles, popcorn and a sharing bag of Twirl bites, Wispa bites, giant Buttons or (current favourite) Mix Ups with Oreo.

ellaballoo · 08/10/2015 17:46

Pizza and a movie here , plenty of treats ,fleecy blankets , fairy lights and treats. In the summer we often relocate family night to a tent in the garden . Our alternative Glastonbury is legendary :)

icclemunchy · 08/10/2015 17:47

Luckily both DDs are only little so we usually cuddle up in the sofa with a throw and a movie, we always try and take DD1 to the shops to pick her snacks because it usually means we can pick the film by bribing with them (and not watch the little mermaid for the 80 billionth time!) now she's a bit older were going to get some board games and try and make an afternoon/evening of it

Wargghhhh · 08/10/2015 17:47

Jammies on, duvets on the settee, snacks ahoy and a fave family film (with curtains closed!). The perfect family night in and one the kids adore!

zarinebedford · 08/10/2015 17:48

Our family night in have changed since baby. Once our 5 month old baby boy has gone to bed, around 7:00pm, every night (I know we are super lucky he sleeps through the night) we unwind with dinner followed by a film or a to series episode with a cup of tea and a chocolate treat. Occasionally a dessert cake but normally a bar of chocolate Blush

Nauje · 08/10/2015 17:49

We have a toddler rules day, where we let our 5 year old "run the show" so he can chose what we eat, what activities to do, what to watch. He might opt for a bath with all the ball pit balls at 11am, or a trip out, or a pyjama and movie day! There are certain limits, but he loves being in charge!

sfancy · 08/10/2015 17:50

Bribery seems to work wonders. We always eat dinner together and talk about our day around the table. If there is any fuss, then I find the threat of changing the password on the ipad does wonders!

lyndseyh78 · 08/10/2015 17:51

We normally make sure weekends are all about family so they normally consist of welly walks in the woods on a Saturday or Sunday morning (sometimes both) movie night on a Saturday night with pizza and chocolate Smile and then a big home cooked Sunday lunch Grin

Peaceloveandpartyrings · 08/10/2015 17:52

I love Sunday afternoons watching a film with DH and DS. I especially love it when they both fall asleep and I can change the TV channel and eat all the snacks Wink

angiem32 · 08/10/2015 17:56

We wait for a big blockbuster film (or something we've all wanted to see) to come onto Netflix and we gather with popcorn and everyone's favourite pizzas! Our local pizza takeaway does a great family deal and we try to do this atleast once a month

MimsyBorogroves · 08/10/2015 17:57

Dr Who nights are a massive night in where my boys (DH, DS1 and 2) are concerned - pizza and treats. They snuggle up on the sofa for the scary bits and I join in with my kindle Grin

DS1 gets secret movie nights as he is older than DS2. We put DS2 to bed and then sneak him down to watch 'classics' - Ghostbusters etc or the Marvel films recently, and we treat him to a takeaway plus some cadburys. It's a taste of what we get up to on grown up nights, minus the cider.

Paulat2112 · 08/10/2015 17:57

My children are still quite young, so this is not too difficult. They are 7,almost 4 and 2. They love going to the shops for munchies and picking a film, we use amazon prime films and they love getting to pick one.

busyteachermummy · 08/10/2015 17:59

We choose a movie together, some special treat food, like chocolate, popcorn, crisps or ice cream and all sit down together to watch it. We are currently working our way through the star wars movies, ready for the new one coming out at Christmas.

QuickQuickSloe · 08/10/2015 18:02

Cinema night with popcorn and jam tarts here. I have no idea why jam tarts are part of the tradition but they are a key feature.

TheVeryHungryPreggo · 08/10/2015 18:03

DH and I used to love going to the cinema on our dates. As students we used to go a couple of times a week with our discount passed.

Now we purposely wait so that we can stream the latest Pixar movie from the Sky store or get it on DVD instead. DS is 3 and loves action and adventure, DD is a baby and happy to sleep in our arms. We have popcorn (salt for the boys and sweet for me!) or crisps (DH) and chocolate (buttons for DS, and if I can get it a Mint Crisp from the Irish shelf in Tesco - tastes like home!) and we sit all snuggled up together on the sofa. Big Hero 6 was the last one we watched. We are waiting for Minions which I think DS will love; and DH and I can't wait to see Inside Out.

We are also watching the rugby this way. With the added bonus that it bores DS to sleep early. Grin

sallyst123 · 08/10/2015 18:03

Family night here is usually a Saturday night.
Each week 1 child gets to choose what board game to play, then either homemade pizza or take away for tea with lots of treats after. (Popcorn & chocolate )
Glass of wine for mummy & daddy & on treat night the kids are allowed a fizzy drink too.
I live our family nights just watching the kids play nicely together always makes me smile Smile

Snooky22 · 08/10/2015 18:05

We love having meals together around the table. Even the baby can get involved now! We also love days out as a family and activities together, like swimming. Our little ones are still a bit small to sit through a film, but I can see family movie nights in our future, with blankets and treats ??

PetraDelphiki · 08/10/2015 18:08

DD is still a bit young for a night in...although she does love a family dinner even if she's not allowed to stay up too much later afterwards!
