Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

We love snuggling under a blanket with a hot chocolate (marshmallows mandatory!) , bowl of popcorn or chocolate's and usually a Disney film (dds request!) lots of snuggly cuddles and relaxing time Grin

Iamnotanugget · 08/10/2015 22:15

A family fun night is getting the dc to make pizza and serving with chips and ketchup which is a treat in itself but then we let them eat on the sofa while we watch a film. It's tricky because the youngest won't sit through a film so we're moving towards putting him to bed and then the four of us playing games which I think is more fun.

jessieb887 · 08/10/2015 22:32

Our family nights in consist of chippy tea on paper all say on the floor together and a good film. Perfection Smile xx

BrandNewAndImproved · 08/10/2015 22:38

I'm a single mum of two children (8 & 9), we have movie nights every Friday which consist of pizza and do it yourself ice cream sundaes. Our icecream sundaes consist of whatever nice icecream is on offer, jelly babies, Cadbury buttons, flakes and a mixture of sauces.

Sometimes we put marshmallows in between chocolate digestives.

Food plays a big part in our family time especially treat food as it brings us all together.

LittleLostRoeDeer · 08/10/2015 22:45

Our kids are still quite little (2.10 and 10 months) but we like to get the wood stove lit once the weather's child enough. Then we'll either play games, sing nursery rhymes or put Black Lace on and have a dance about. We're not really ones for sitting about here, so it usually involves dancing or some kind of activity. The fire in makes it cosy for us.

AuditAngel · 08/10/2015 22:48

With a shift worker in the family, our family evenings are rarer, therefore more special.

Normally pj's, blankies on the sofa, and either a film or tv on catchup.

ScarlettDarling · 08/10/2015 22:58

Our absolute favourite family night in involves 'home alone' on dvd whilst snuggled on the sofa eating takeaway pizza. Then it's giant mugs of hot chocolate with mountains of squirty cream and a flake crumbled on top! Yum!

Helseyr · 08/10/2015 22:59

Family nights for us are looked forward to all day on a Saturday...busy days out with various activities, but we all know that it ends in fajitas being cooked and then laid out in the lounge with us all around, no gadgets, 20 questions game, or an alternative, then later snacks of a bag of chocs and a bowl of fruit...amazing how well the fruit goes down as fast as chocolate!

chanice · 08/10/2015 23:10

The PS3 and a takeaway keeps everybody happy x

AbeSaidYes · 09/10/2015 00:18

Duvet den on the sofa with snacks and a film. Got to include hot chocolate with mini marsh mallows.

clopper · 09/10/2015 00:45

We all like a loud board game like articulate or logo and the card game uno is a particular favourite. We often have crisps and dips or Indian snacks like samosas as we play and argue!

Longdistance · 09/10/2015 01:10

When it is just me and the girls, and my husband's out (usually playing or watching rugby), we have endless story time and puzzles.

They are only 4 and 6, so it's still quiet time before bed.

I on the other hand, enjoy quiet time when they're asleep Grin

MummySparkle · 09/10/2015 01:55

Spag Bol is the collective favourite. Followed by milk and 'In The Night Garden' for the DCs. Once they're in bed then DP and I snuggle up under a blanket on the sofa and watch back-to-back episodes of House Grin

kzedii · 09/10/2015 02:18

movie night!!! kids choose movie, popcorn and chocolates and blankets to huddle in, lights dimmed.

ManicPixieDream · 09/10/2015 06:51

We like to play youtube karaoke. The kids take it in turns to choose a song to sing and dance to. (Please not Gangnam style again!)

Rushyswife · 09/10/2015 07:00

We do an early bath for the children, light our fire if it's chilly and then all snuggle on the sofa under a blanket. Our DS are little so we tend to watch CBeebies till they are sleepy then stories. Once they are in bed DH and I will watch a couple of episodes of our latest box set, usually with some snacks and wine!

hankyspanky · 09/10/2015 07:15

We love to gather in the sitting room, all in our pyjamas and with lovely soft throws and order pizza whilst watching a film or something on TV. I generally make pop corn and buy in a giant chocolate bar or tub of sweets for us to munch on during the film.

Bliss!!

AGrinWithoutACat · 09/10/2015 07:52

We try and eat tea as a family everyday however DH often misses out through late finishes at work but Saturday movie nights with dinner in front of a DVD are fun especially now the baby is old enough to plate surf!

Best family time come up every couple of months and include extended family as my side have a tradition of family birthday dinners which include DSIS, her DH & Dneice, my parents, brother as well as the 5 of us, we gather for a nice meal and then it's games and general chat in the evening.

Tallyloolah · 09/10/2015 07:57

We make movie snacks like popcorn etc, and snuggle up with kids and watch disney movies :)

Florin · 09/10/2015 08:11

Our favorite family evenings are when everyone is in their pyjamas and the log burner is roaring making the sitting room all cost. Then make fresh popcorn with honey and cinnamon and snuggle on the sofa with bowls of popcorn and chocolate. Everyone (including the dog!) snuggled up under a quilt watching a family film together. Oh and a Gin and tonic for Mummy and Daddy!

VaseandCandle · 09/10/2015 08:39

My son is 2 so our cosy night in occurs every night - we would have a cuddle on the sofa with some stories before going upstairs for bed.

I can answer the question "what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together"? My husband and I work full time so at the weekend we plan activities - football in the park, drive out to the countryside, collecting conkers etc, otherwise its too easy to end up pottering around at home doing admin and chores.

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 09/10/2015 08:59

A good family programme gets us sitting together, such as, Strictly Come Dancing but to be honest, we sit together most nights and enjoy watching the tv together!

We love to snuggle up under the duvet and have some good snacks!

BuzzardBird · 09/10/2015 09:02

Starts with a lovely walk over the hills then each person gets to chose their favourite dinner in turn, and then follow it with the games compendium. This is booked in at least twice a month and is one of our traditions.

Blessingsgalore5 · 09/10/2015 09:28

We have two favourite things to do with the whole family my children have a big age cap one being nearly 18 and the other 3 being 3 and under but a family film is a sure way to get us altogether and you can be sure of a few sweet treats to top it off!!

The next is to make dens which range from a pretend camp, to sweet shops, to hideaways there is no end to my children's den creations and imagination and of course no den experience is complete without a drink and a treat!!

voodoolooloo · 09/10/2015 09:35

We're all busy busy during the week, but on a Sat night we love to be together.
X factor on the telly
Popcorn from the popcorn maker
All snuggled up with throws and blankets Plus dogs and cats!
Occasionally a takeaway if funds allow.
Fairy lights on, fire lit and lots I'd candles burning.
Lovely Smile
