We've been asked by the team at MoneySuperMarket to find out about the weirdest things Mumsnetters have found when moving in to a new home, which the previous owners or tenants left behind.

MoneySuperMarket say "We know moving home can be a stressful experience and sometimes it can be accompanied a few unexpected and 'interesting' surprises at the other end! Whether you've recently moved home or not, we'd love to hear your stories on the thread below.

Also - for those of you in the process of moving right now, don't forget to check out our Home Mover's hub, where you'll find a wealth of articles, videos and tools designed to get you to your own personal 'Happily Ever After' just that little bit quicker..."

So, what weird or wonderful things have you found when moving? Maybe the previous owner of your house left behind a particularly impressive stamp collection? Or perhaps you found a stack of old diaries? Or maybe you found a wig hidden in the back of the wardrobe?

Whatever you've found, MoneySuperMarket would love to hear about it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw* where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher from Mumsnet.

Please note your comments may be included on MoneySuperMarket's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Some very large leapard print knickers under a tree in our new garden followed by a very large thong down the bathroom radiators. In the bedroom was lisa loves gav writen on the wall and some very big dints in the wall where the headboard would have been! Very funny stuff

spottypjs · 16/09/2015 18:52

Nothing too weird, but they did leave a cute Buddha doorstop!

freefan · 16/09/2015 18:53

While stripping wallpaper, we discovered a hole in the wall that had been packed with socks! very odd

Amummyatlast · 16/09/2015 18:56

We found a child's letter and drawing to Santa on top of one of the kitchen cupboards. That was sweet.

And a porn mag under the bathroom floor. That was not.

BodieBroadus · 16/09/2015 19:01

We found several leather jackets in the loft, not that weird really!

arat · 16/09/2015 19:19

Under a carpet, found that the 'underlay' was 100s of sheets of computer listing containing people's name, date of birth, salary, NI number. (This was a long time ago, well before the Data Protection Act!)

We were left an small hedgehog ornament with a note wishing us luck in our new home. The note went on to say that it had been left for them by the previous occupants and they thought it would be nice to carry on the tradition.

I have kept it safe and will do the same when we eventually move.

We bought a converted dentist surgery. In the living room cupboard there was a full set of dentist impression teeth

Soosieboo · 16/09/2015 20:05

At our first house we moved in during the winter. The following summer we noticed a patch appearing on the lawn.
The neighbour said it appears when the ground is dry. We decided to dig up the lawn to see what it was...a full size cast iron fireplace buried under the lawn!!

clarem100 · 16/09/2015 20:06

nothing- i feel very boring now!

Cailin7 · 16/09/2015 20:07

We are lucky not to have moved house much, only been in a couple of houses. But nothing weird. The last one could have done with a good clean though, took a week to get it cleaned and get cat fur out of the carpets. DH has allergy too!

HelenSw4les · 16/09/2015 20:11

Not so much of a find as such, but we'd just moved into our new home, the majority of the unpacking had been done and we were sat down with a cup of tea. We heard the back door open and someone come into the kitchen and put the kettle on! It was only the previous owner, he had come home from work and had forgotten he had moved.

Gilla01 · 16/09/2015 20:11

Not really a found in, but in one old house the cupboard under the stairs had been used as a coal shed. It took simply ages to clean all the coal dust out.

stefalfie11 · 16/09/2015 20:38

A ring in the toilet cistern!!

juliebissett72 · 16/09/2015 20:40

A box in the garden shed full of left shoes only. Weird.

MackerelOfFact · 16/09/2015 20:44

A solitary plastic prawn languishing in the lean-to. I have no idea.

alsproject · 16/09/2015 20:45

I don't think we have found anything strange when moving house but surely that's a good thing

Crown · 16/09/2015 20:51

A dead bird in the old heating system.

pusinky · 16/09/2015 21:04

A stuffed head of a deer in the loft. Very creepy.

tableanadchairs · 16/09/2015 21:08

The flat we bought was left as if the owners had done a moonlight flit- we found many things including a bank card.
However when l set about cleaning the cooker and pulled the door down on the grill, l found 3 cold cooked sausages and a piece of fruit pudding Grin. Funny l seemed to lose my appetite at that minute.

gaptoothuk · 16/09/2015 21:16

Me and my husband found a brand new fridge freezer in the cellar! We decide to use at Christmas when there's a little extra food in the house otherwise we turn it off because we had one when we moved there :P

jemmalouise · 16/09/2015 21:41

When I moved in my old house I opened a kitchen cupboard and found a plastic tub with what looked like sick in!!

hanarees · 16/09/2015 21:48

When I was a student the tenants before us stuffed clothes with newspaper and arranged them to look them like a body. They then hid it in the outhouse. When we had an explore on moving day we nearly had heart attacks when we saw it in the dingy shed thinking there was an actual dead man in there!

rachelkanga · 16/09/2015 22:01

A random switch that does not appear to be attached to anything under a shelf in breakfast room. Also found a blocked up window between two rooms in previous house.

compy99 · 16/09/2015 22:18

an old piano that had lots of frilly ladies underwear stuffed in it!
