We've been asked by the team at MoneySuperMarket to find out about the weirdest things Mumsnetters have found when moving in to a new home, which the previous owners or tenants left behind.

MoneySuperMarket say "We know moving home can be a stressful experience and sometimes it can be accompanied a few unexpected and 'interesting' surprises at the other end! Whether you've recently moved home or not, we'd love to hear your stories on the thread below.

Also - for those of you in the process of moving right now, don't forget to check out our Home Mover's hub, where you'll find a wealth of articles, videos and tools designed to get you to your own personal 'Happily Ever After' just that little bit quicker..."

So, what weird or wonderful things have you found when moving? Maybe the previous owner of your house left behind a particularly impressive stamp collection? Or perhaps you found a stack of old diaries? Or maybe you found a wig hidden in the back of the wardrobe?

Whatever you've found, MoneySuperMarket would love to hear about it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw* where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher from Mumsnet.

Please note your comments may be included on MoneySuperMarket's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I found a small money safe in a wall cavity which contained some old paper money...

SilverNightFairy · 16/09/2015 11:58

Thr first day we moved into our crumbling Victorian we discovered a silver ring under the stove and noisy little ghost in the basement.

misscupcakes · 16/09/2015 12:00

A business card for an escort service. Left by a very elderly man!

feefeegabor · 16/09/2015 12:14

I was delighted to find a couple of rolls of real vintage wallpaper - 1950s. I used it as a feature wall in our bedroom. It was such a great find!

nigelh66 · 16/09/2015 12:16

I found that a few of the internal doors had holes in them as though they had been punched ! I guess the previous occupants were a bit sad at having had to move ! :-D

hiddenmichelle · 16/09/2015 12:42

I found an loads of christmas papers in the loft - they were a little dog eared and brown at the edges but so different and unusual to the ones in the shops today - I used them that year!

JayneMWilkinson · 16/09/2015 13:02

We found that the huge roof space had been lined with WW2 parachutes!

turkeyboots · 16/09/2015 13:05

A dog. Previous owners didn't want to move it in case it got upset so asked us to keep it! We said no and they grudgingly moved dog to their new house. Have us a huge shock to walk into a house we thought was empty and have a big black Labrador bounce up to us!

beeelaine · 16/09/2015 13:10

When we moved in our current home lots of things were left as the old gentleman was in a home and then passed away. The majority of it we got a local charity shop to take away (there was lots of furniture) and we were really happy they got new homes and were re-used.

However the 3 piece suite didnt have a fire label on it so they could not take it - underneath the beige covering was a bright purple and orange 1970's sofa - which by all accounts would have been the bees knees, although it would have given me a headache daily! We burnt it on a bonfire and my god it went up in flames! Had to back off about 20 feet to save our eyebrows!

The only other odd thing was an old oriental pot/vase. Its only small. But I just cant let it go in case its worth something..... so its in the attic awaiting the Antiques Roadshow to pass by!

julieef · 16/09/2015 13:26

The wall paper it was bright pink with a black pattern and bright pink paint, and this was in the bathroom

Boxes and boxes of glamour porn from the 1950's and 1960s! Harrison Marks books.. worth a small fortune! And glamour calendars!

0ddsocks · 16/09/2015 13:33

We found a notebook from then Potato Marketing Board and some illegal drugs!

SpaggyBollocks · 16/09/2015 13:45

when DP and I moved into the rented house we live in currently, the inventory listed a cluster of hibernating ladybirds.

complete with photo.

libra101 · 16/09/2015 14:57

The weirdest thing we found when moving to a new home was lots of concrete brushed underneath floorboards. Also lots of paint pots scattered around.

Midnighter · 16/09/2015 15:43

That the previous occupant had literally stripped the garden. Which is/was more annoying than weird.

jacd77 · 16/09/2015 15:57

we found an old coffin in our loft, it turns out the guy the lived here before us was an undertaker, talk about bringing your work home with u!!!

devito92 · 16/09/2015 15:57

A load of old medicines that where decades out of date

emiai · 16/09/2015 16:06

A prosthetic leg which was lay in the bottom of the bath.. do you have ANY idea how much i was scared when i saw it at first!!

ImmortalBeloved72 · 16/09/2015 17:18

I found video tapes labelled 'Postman Pat' in the cupboard that contained the hot water cylinder. The video was porn (the like of which I'd never seen before and I didn't think I was that naive) The couple I bought the house from were really strict Christians and when I phoned and told them about the video I could hear them dying over the phone. They also left the cooker and after hours of cleaning it was spotless. When they came out for the videos they asked if I'd bought a new cooker, they were very shocked when they realised it was their grubby one.

HumphreyCobblers · 16/09/2015 17:35

Lots and lots of inadequately rinsed out milk cartons.

A love letter in a tin box, written by a teenage boy. It included the phrase "You looked so lovely at the dance last night.."

galaxygirl1 · 16/09/2015 17:45

When I stripped the walls I found a pentagon sign! Was a little bit worried about that,(didn't know the previous owners because it had been a rental) but I painted over it pretty quickly. So far nothing strange has happened but you never know..........

Funkyferret · 16/09/2015 17:54

I've found a few odd things - the most welcome was, years ago, carrier bags of coppers totalling around £70 (we did get in touch with the agents to ask if the previous owners wanted them but were told to keep them), and in another house I opened the hall cupboard to find an old-fashioned ventriloquist's dummy sitting there staring back. It scared the life out of me and I never did feel comfortable using the cupboard, even when I got rid of the thing!

wjanice121 · 16/09/2015 17:56

A whole Christmas Cake. The old lady before us must have made it and passed away before getting to enjoy it. No we didn't eat it before you ask.

shivbrown · 16/09/2015 18:00

We found an old diary in the loft must of been 100 years old was so interesting and was very sweet how a man talked about his wife and his struggles with money and work. We have since found its owners great grand children and it has been sent to them so they can treasure it forever
