British Lion Eggs have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ weaning recipes are.

Here’s what they say, “Dr Juliet Gray, registered nutritionist, says, ‘The current evidence suggests that mums looking to wean their babies can be encouraged to introduce eggs from six months as an early weaning food, as this could have a positive effect in terms of nutritional intake and may also help promote immune tolerance of eggs.’"

“In the past there has been doubt surrounding egg consumption by pregnant women and babies. It was recommended that these groups avoid eating eggs that were not fully cooked because of the small risk of salmonella. Since the British Lion scheme was introduced in 1998, however, these risks have been effectively eliminated from Lion-marked eggs.”

“The Food Standards Agency is currently reviewing the evidence relating to the safety of eggs in the UK with results expected in 2016. The British Egg Industry Council says that the safety record of British Lion eggs means that vulnerable groups should now be allowed to consume them when runny.”

So, what are your top egg weaning recipes? Have you ever weaned your children on eggs before? If so, how did you find it? Did you scramble, boil or make omelettes? Or maybe you make French toast for your LOs? Or perhaps pancakes have been a particular hit in your house? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Everyone who posts their thoughts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck,

spinach and cheese omelettes go down a treat here. One egg beaten, add some cheese and a cube or two of frozen spinach (defrosted). www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00KRN1OD2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1442087644&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=name+labels+for+clothes&dpPl=1&dpID=516XCkVEgvL&ref=plSrch

My eldest two were born while the advice was not to give soft eggs and I continued to follow the advice after DS3 was born, as it was habit. I used to hard boil eggs and blend them with some formula milk, as an early weaning food. They loved it. Later I would mash them with a little potato.

Later I introduced scambled egg and the omelettes. Eggs have always been an important staple food in our house and egg mayonnaise sandwiches and fried egg sandwiches are both firm favourites.

Poached eggs so easy to cook and digest children love them

dandm12 · 14/09/2015 21:21

My little boy loved quiche! Ready roll pastry (puff or shortcrust) in a tin, chopped meat and veg (chorizo and red peppers is super yummy, but best when they're older), grated cheese, and pour on mixed egg until topping is covered. Bung in the oven until cooked through. Serve with sweet potato wedges and you're away!

We started with omelettes cut into strips as finger food, plain to start with then with added cheese, chopped veggies etc. Then moved on to scrambled & hard boiled eggs. Now there is nothing DS loves more than a really runny egg with dippy soldiers

Butternut squash fritters were a huge favourite, and Spanish omelette was a great way to introduce some vegetables and texture.

Scrambled egg is our go to, need to eat NOW (!) dinner. With my daughter I used to make omelette a fair bit (and shove some veg in) which worked pretty well for weaning.

johnchapman1986 · 15/09/2015 13:50

I like scrambling my eggs with a little milk, my children absolutely adored eggs when they were babies!

Eggy Bread cut into little hand friendly size strips

cagsd · 15/09/2015 22:03

My kids always loved scrambled eggs when they were at the finger foods stage (I just used to put it on the highchair tray and they loved picking up bits) also eggy bread cut into soldiers was always a great hit!

timeforabrewnow · 16/09/2015 08:49

Pancakes - 2 eggs, plus self raising flour and lots of milk. Pancakes chopped into finger sized pieces, great filling snack/breakfast for little ones on the go

SleepyForest · 16/09/2015 08:54

I made dd coddled eggs when she was tiny. She still asks for them when she is poorly.

Wilhelmenawonka · 16/09/2015 11:34

Scrambled eggs all the way here
Nice and soft so easy to eat. I usually cook spinach in with them too which goes down well

ButterflyOfFreedom · 16/09/2015 17:21

Eggs were are big part of weaning (and continue to be a big part of all the family's' diets) - I introduced eggs early on for both DC and they proved to be a big hit!

Boiled eggs seemed to be their favourite - and when they got older I'd make the yolks a little runnier and make 'soldiers' so they could dip them in.

Omelettes were good too and a great way of getting some veg in them.

DinosaursRoar · 16/09/2015 21:37

scrambled eggs and eggy bread were early hits. I did let both DCs have runny eggs early on, I work on the principle get decent quality food and not worry.

MangoDaiquiri · 16/09/2015 23:18

a mild, simple Kedgeree. Only very slightly spicy rice, haddock and dicd uo boiled eggs. You can always spice up the serving for the adults after you've served up baby's portion!

systemsdown · 17/09/2015 16:10

Baby daughter is 28 weeks and we're doing baby-led weaning. Started a bit before six months as she's big and was sitting and was interested.

So far, egg-wise, she's tried omelette, quiche, eggy bread, banana pancakes (oats, mashed banana and whisked egg, fried), kedgeree with boiled eggs, and scrambled eggs. Everything is getting tried, although inevitably a lot ends up on the floor.

Her much older brother was eating veggie curry with mashed boiled eggs at six months.

We love eggs in our household! And although my daughter will eat some fish and meat, my son was weaned as a vegetarian, and eggs were a vital protein and fat source for him as a baby. He is massive now, so they must have helped. Grin

PurpleSkyatthewateringhole · 17/09/2015 20:52

With both DC I used to cook scrambled eggs with toast and egg fried rice (good, messy food). They never liked boiled eggs even though I have one on toast for breakfast most days.

sarah3875 · 18/09/2015 21:16

We are big egg fans in this house and only had a scrummy omelette for tea tonight. I can't remember when I first introduced it with my boys but will definitely try it earlier this time (due in 5 weeks) xx

SouthWestmom · 19/09/2015 18:12

I think we started with very plain omelettes cut into strips and then gradually got more exciting - cheese! ??The long lasting absolute favourite that even now at 16 (oldest one) is eaten is eggy bread. Black pepper, pinch salt, sometimes chopped spring onions, eggs and milk. Served inelegantly with tomato ketchup, a plate and no cutlery!

angiehoggett · 19/09/2015 21:08

scrambled egg, egg mayo with different flavour combinations

lucyrobinson · 19/09/2015 22:55

My daughter loved eggy bread and scrambled egg and toast soldiers. x

Tiredoftiredness · 20/09/2015 12:00

DS loves egg fried rice, also great for sneaking in lots of tiny chopped up mixed veg!

Great for a 10minute healthy dinner

12LuDo · 20/09/2015 16:39

Scrambled eggs are the perfect weaning food, due to the soft consistency and being so quick and easy to make! French toast soldiers were popular with mine too, because they could pick them up themselves.

baconbap · 20/09/2015 17:15

eggy bread fingers, and banana pancakes
