British Lion Eggs have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ weaning recipes are.

Here’s what they say, “Dr Juliet Gray, registered nutritionist, says, ‘The current evidence suggests that mums looking to wean their babies can be encouraged to introduce eggs from six months as an early weaning food, as this could have a positive effect in terms of nutritional intake and may also help promote immune tolerance of eggs.’"

“In the past there has been doubt surrounding egg consumption by pregnant women and babies. It was recommended that these groups avoid eating eggs that were not fully cooked because of the small risk of salmonella. Since the British Lion scheme was introduced in 1998, however, these risks have been effectively eliminated from Lion-marked eggs.”

“The Food Standards Agency is currently reviewing the evidence relating to the safety of eggs in the UK with results expected in 2016. The British Egg Industry Council says that the safety record of British Lion eggs means that vulnerable groups should now be allowed to consume them when runny.”

So, what are your top egg weaning recipes? Have you ever weaned your children on eggs before? If so, how did you find it? Did you scramble, boil or make omelettes? Or maybe you make French toast for your LOs? Or perhaps pancakes have been a particular hit in your house? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Everyone who posts their thoughts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck,

My kids didn't like boiled eggs, think it was the texture of the egg white, but I did give them scrambled which they used to enjoy

KittyKat88 · 11/09/2015 16:59

The two things my DDs enjoyed were scrambled egg (usually mushed in with baked beans) and eggy bread cut into 'soldiers' I struggled to get them to try boiled or poached eggs though.

purplepandas · 11/09/2015 17:07

This is a family favourite, great for an evening meal or cut up in squares & served cold in lunch boxes

Asparagus & New Potato Frittata

Ingredients

250g baby new potatoes (in their skins) cut into 1cm cubes
250g asparagus tips, cut into 3cm pieces
100g petit pois
?? large onion, finely chopped
?? red pepper, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
5 large eggs
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1 tbsp dried mixed herbs
Salt & ground black pepper

Boil the cubed potatoes for approx. 8 minutes or until tender. Remove from water with slotted spoon & set aside. Blanch the asparagus in the same pan for 2 minutes. Drain & set aside

In the meantime whisk the eggs in a large bowl, season & stir in herbs

Heat oil in an ovenproof frying pan, add the onion, peppers & garlic & stir fry for approx. 6 minutes, or until soft.

Add the potatoes, half the asparagus & the peas & stir fry for a further 2 minutes

Pour the eggs evenly over the asparagus mixture & scatter over the remaining asparagus.

Turn the heat to medium & cook for approx. 12 minutes or until the base has started to set.

Preheat your grill to high. Place the frittata under the grill in the frying pan for approximately 4 minutes or until the top is golden & set.

Remove from the heat & allow to cool slightly then loosen the edges with a spatula & carefully slide onto a large chopping board.

Cut into 4 pieces & serve warm (also delicious cold for the kids in their lunchbox)

Scrambled eggs first and then eggy bread was a big favourite with DD, she couldn't get enough of them... eventually moving onto soft boiled egg. Quick and easy to make, it is ideal for her protein needs.

sealight123 · 11/09/2015 19:48

My partner and daughter looooveee eggs. Scrambled eggs, dippy eggs, paoched eggs, omelettes...everything! I'm more of a eggybread, pancakes and cakes sort of girl myself :P lol

chloe1705 · 11/09/2015 20:25

My daughter loves a dippy egg and soldiers just have to watch her with the shell. Scrambled egg is also a good one as it is so soft.

fazkin · 11/09/2015 21:01

With my DD I weaned with scrambled eggs and dipping her toast/biccy in sofy runny egg yolk. DS is very allergic to egg so we've stuck to egg free options.

Anononooo · 11/09/2015 21:21

Scrambled eggs, sometimes with some shreds of salmon, was a great weaning food.

AnneBoleyn22 · 11/09/2015 21:51

Scrambled eggs made with melted butter and a splash of milk

DrSausagedog · 11/09/2015 22:00

My toddler loves eggs. We started with scrambled, then mushroom omelette, now dippy eggs.

I love that eggs are so versatile and full of protein.

Anderson8 · 11/09/2015 22:15

alsproject · 11/09/2015 22:30

scrambles eggs are great as you can also chop up tomatoes and add them into the cooking process to make it even better

sweir1 · 11/09/2015 23:03

We used to do scrambled egg with beans and mash
