We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My favourite childhood treats were Butterscotch Angel Delights and Cola. Have always had a sweet tooth! My rewards when doing well were Mickey Mouse merchandise - either annuals, magazines or soft toys

AlienBurrito · 02/08/2015 20:05

A trip to the park in town was a treat enough for me. On special occasions probably a toy of some sort. I was spoilt too often with sweets for them to seem special! Today I think the same treats would be just as nice.

I always enjoyed days out in local parks!

ImmortalBeloved72 · 02/08/2015 20:08

I loved getting a Playmobil or Lego set as a reward. As far as food treats were concerned I loved 'Nutty' bars, showing my age because they haven't been made in ages, can just remember they were covered in caramel and peanuts no idea what was actually inside them.

a lucky bag (10p ) and cone when i was getting a treat from the ice cream van and a comic from my local shop

cassey1 · 02/08/2015 20:15

A new book, I loved reading or going to the sweet shop with 10p, you could get so much for your money!!

rennie1811 · 02/08/2015 20:27

I used to get books, or sometimes a kinder egg, Still love kinder eggs as they remind me of getting treats when I was young. I find myself now buying them for my children as a treat too

Stewed rhubarb with sugar on top was a favourite my grandma used to make me. My children love it with some custard.

We, my brother and I use to share a box of Maltesers, or After Eights (luxury) on a Friday night with Mum back in the early 70's. My Dad use to buy them for us when he went out. What a great memory you have stirred for me, (I had totally forgotten this) as he died in an accident when I was seven.

A magazine - Twinkle when I was small, then Look-in as it had cool freebies (I still regret the loss of the Adam and the Ants skull and crossbones metal charm).

My daughter (5.5) now also gets her weekly magazine. Hello Kitty, Lego Friends, Frozen..if it's got stickers AND a cool toy she's happy!

glenka · 02/08/2015 20:43

We always got money to go to the local sweet shop and we could choose whatever we liked.

nula888 · 02/08/2015 20:44

Snack a Jacks I think they were American brand but because we lived in the west end it was sold in shops next to us I no longer can find it.
Basically it was tasty pop corn in a box and came with a really cool sticker was pricey so was only a special treat if I cleaned the entire house.

tia3456 · 02/08/2015 20:45

My Gran would save coppers for me through the week, and every weekend I saw her I would then spend them at the sweet shop on the way home, my favourite sweets to buy were herbal tablets

CK12232 · 02/08/2015 20:47

My fave treat was being allowed to stay up an extra half hour to watch Scooby Doo. I also really liked Club bars

izbiz88 · 02/08/2015 20:47

It was always food related with me! (I must confess it still is.)

We weren't allowed sweets during the week but every Saturday we had 'Saturday Sweets', and we either went to the corner shop to choose something or we went to Woolworths and got a pic 'n' mix :)

If anything bad happened or I had an acccident as a child I always hoped to be rewarded with food in some way (I must confess I still do!)

KittyKat88 · 02/08/2015 20:49

The only treats I remember was a few pence to spend at the local sweetie shop on a Saturday morning - mind you, when I was little, a few pence could buy quite a few sweeties! The best times I remember with my mum, though, were trips to the library and cooking together - those felt like real rewards because she was a fulltime single mum, so spending time together like that was very precious to me Smile

nula888 · 02/08/2015 20:49

Not snack a jacks they were called Cracker Jacks Grin

Daisydukes79 · 02/08/2015 20:51

Ladybird books :) I've actually started picking them up from charity shops so my 2 kids can experience their fabulousness as well.

honeyb11 · 02/08/2015 20:51

Penny sweets from the corner shop - and getting to watch an hour of TV of my choice :)

butle20 · 02/08/2015 20:54

I've always like baking presents. I feel like most toys now are more for sole use and doesn't encourage making friends or interaction with other people but I always love making things for other people.

I don't think I would be happy with most new toys I wouldn't change any of the old school toys like my old my little ponies or Care Bears x

mrscd34 · 02/08/2015 20:57

Wham bars and black jacks

compy99 · 02/08/2015 21:00

money was very, very tight when I was little but my parents always made sure I didn't go without, my treats would be to pick out a quarter of sweets from the sweet shop, I loved looking at all the big jars to select what sweets I wanted, it really was a big deal to me. I would clutch the little white paper bag containing my precious sweeties and then eat them slowly so that they would last longer!

feefeegabor · 02/08/2015 21:05

Ice cream from the Tonibell Ice Cream Man!

beckyinman · 02/08/2015 21:07

Party rings - I still love them now!

ilovemovies · 02/08/2015 21:09

I used to get some change as a treat and would get as much pick and mix with that as possible.

If I was a child now, I would love a new book or pick and mix would be great too!
