We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

A trip to the local swimming pool with my dad on Saturday mornings, then a hot sarsaparilla afterwards for a treat.

Emrob86 · 04/08/2015 17:40

Ice cream! :)

My grandparents used to give me a Kinder Egg if I was good. I had a whole box full of the toys which my grandparents threw away when my brother was born as "he could choke on them". Sad

Saying that my DH still buys me Kinder Eggs if I'm very good and I keep my favorite toys on my monitor stand at work. Grin

A Cadburys cream egg, they always seemed huge and now look so small

I remember a 10p to get penny sweets on the way home from school if I had been good. My favourite treat was a my little pony when I was brave and didn't cry when they took the plaster off my broken arm when I was eight. My mum wasn't impressed when I asked if I could have the gymkhana set if I broke my other one and I spent a whole summer BANNED from climbing trees :(

Showing my age here! I used to get 6d (that's sixpence in old money) every Saturday and my Dad would take me to the shop to spend it on a comic or something.

jwjuliejulie · 04/08/2015 19:41

My favorite treat as a child was spending weekends with my grandad because they were full of treats!!! I would wake up in the morning to a bubble bath and whilst in the bath I would be able to smell bacon and eggs cooking :-) Late nights, afternoons watching cartoons together, helping in the garden and allotment - spoilt :-) Simple pleasures and treasured times.

when we had been good, we were allowed to go to the sweet shop and buy a 10p mix. we'd get loads of sweeties for 10p

pontsian · 04/08/2015 20:13

I used to get colouring books! I was obsessed and would spend hours colouring in, if I was especially well behaved I would also get some new colouring pencils

cheryl100 · 04/08/2015 20:15

I loved spending a thursday evening watching Dallas and eating a galaxy chocolate with my Mum....while my Dad was out at darts!

clarem100 · 04/08/2015 20:29

wagon wheels - the jam ones! they are nowhere near as good as they used to be

ssouthurst123 · 04/08/2015 21:00

used to be able to stay up a bit later at weekends, and boy was that a treat

freefan · 04/08/2015 21:26

I remember getting to go to the ice cream van on a saturday night with 20p and getting an ice cream with sprinkles and a 10p mixture, this was the reward for keeping my room tidy and doing my homework

rommer · 04/08/2015 22:00

I really enjoyed buying all the reduced cakes when picking up bits and bobs for my parent from the local newsagents.

daxterpink · 04/08/2015 23:23

I use to get money for doing house work.

sparkle58 · 04/08/2015 23:59

If I was good I could go to the shop and buy one of those books that had a cardboard doll with cut-out clothes that you dressed her with - I LOVED them and they probably kept me quiet for ages!

oliveoyl72 · 05/08/2015 00:29

Twinkle magazine, and it kept me occupied for ages with all the stories, puzzles & cut-out things to play with.

angiehoggett · 05/08/2015 10:50

We used to sometimes get 50p or if we were really lucky a £1 to go to the sweet shop but we didn't do that much. I really liked puzzle books and had a bit of a stationary obsession so that was always my thing!

chrisfc99 · 05/08/2015 11:52

I didn't really get rewards, but when we went on holiday we would stop on the way for a picnic. This always included a bag of crisps. It was such a treat to have these. Then, once on holiday, I got treats each day - a comic, an ice cream, a bucket & spade etc.

On a Friday night if I had been good I would get £1 to spend on sweets or chocolate. I wasn't allowed sweet things during the week so it was something to really look forward to

mishknight · 05/08/2015 12:16

used to love it when my mum went to town as she always brought me back a pick n mix from Woolworths

BlackeyedSusan · 05/08/2015 12:47

ice cream or lolly from the van. rare treat.

welshpolarbear · 05/08/2015 13:03

Books for me, I loved Enid Blyton and then when I got older the Worst Witch books (I think that's what they were called) I used to get them as a reward, I loved that trip to the book shop, and I always remember getting a packet of fruit pastilles at my Nain's house as a treat most weeks, my brother and I would take ages eating them!

MrsBojingles · 05/08/2015 13:13

Chocolate drops or a pack of stickers!
