The team at Specsavers would love to know what you think about glasses frames these days - there are hundred's to choose from - but do you always go for the same type of frame? Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes? What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style? How long do you tend to keep your frames? And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different? How do you pick the frame which suits you best?

Specsavers say "Whatever your style, we can help you find frames that suit you best. Our collection of women's glasses includes a range of styles from classic chic to bold and contemporary. With stylish frames starting from just £25 a pair and designer frames priced from £99 to £149, there’s something to suit all tastes and pockets. All glasses come with PENTAX single vision lenses and a scratch-resistant treatment".

"Vibrant purples, reds, pinks and rich tortoiseshells are emerging trends in eyewear. We have a gorgeous collection of ladies glasses to help you add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. Our women’s glasses are made in a range of materials, including plastic, metal, stainless steel and titanium. If you have a preference for what your frames are made of, search by materials to find the perfect pair".

Share your thoughts and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

I am completely rubbish at choosing frames. I always see other people with cool glasses, and yet when it's me in the shop, looking at the hundreds of different frames, I just can't decide what looks cool or what looks shit.

I spend forever choosing, then invariably hate whatever I have chosen.

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/01/2015 21:59

I really struggled to choose frames so in the end got the assistant from my local Specsavers and my 13 year old to help me choose.

The selection is great but as a new specs wearer I really had no idea where to start. The facility to photograph yourself wearing different frames and see the pics on screen is great but would have been better if my DDs weren't hogging it for selfies.
:)

I'd love to see some frames for smaller faces that didn't have Mr Men on the arms. Why is it so hard to understand that sometimes grown women have little faces or that not all children will want childish glasses? I've had problems finding glasses since I first started wearing them at 12. They're either far too big for my face or come with pink daisies or batman symbols on the arms. Hmm Why are there no plain frames for small-faced people?! Sad

JakeShit · 27/01/2015 22:09

I mostly wear rimless glasses as they are really light and comfortable but I also own various brightly coloured plastic frames. I particularly like two tone frames - I have a lovely pair which are brown front on but bright turquoise on the back.

I don't like metal glasses so much. I also don't like logos unless they are very small.

Allalonenow · 27/01/2015 22:21

I'm severely short sighted, so even with the advances in optics, my lenses are quite thick. This means that metal frames are out for me and realistically it's plastic only.

The best frames I've ever had were Zeiss, for comfort and wearability. I do need new glasses, but am procrastinating, as the last ones I got were such a disaster. They are uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. I don't think I will be returning to that optician.

I'm planning to try Specsavers, as I've heard some very favourable comments about them. I'm hoping they will help me choose comfortable functional frames, and I will need help as I cannot see much at all once I have taken my glasses off.

flamingtoaster · 27/01/2015 22:23

I wear glasses all the time as I am very shortsighted. I try not to change my glasses very often as the high index thinner lenses are very expensive. I like my glasses to be light metal and comfortable to wear and not obtrusive. I find it difficult to get glasses frames I really like. I prefer glasses which have the little moveable nose pieces as these can be adjusted more easily for comfort. I once had a pair of glasses with plastic lenses (not from Specsavers) which were very expensive but I could never wear them for more than an hour at a time because they just could not be adjusted to make them comfortable on my nose.

DP wears glasses - he likes plain metal frames too and I help him choose the right size/shape.

cece · 27/01/2015 22:29

I wear reading glasses and also wear different ones for driving.

As I don't wear them all the time I tend to choose pink glittery types frames for my reading ones. I am not keen on neutral ones as I find them boring. I have several on the go at once as I buy cheap ones. I have them around the house, in my handbag and at work. My driving glasses are a different shape and colour so I don't get confused. I only have one of these as they were more expensive due to the anti glare I needed on them.

My new reading glasses are pink leopard print.
My new driving glasses are green leopard print.

marleymooo · 27/01/2015 22:49

I love how paying for my contact lenses by DD and receiving them by post entitles me to free eye tests and free/reduced frames. I have yet to take advantage this year as I find it so difficult to find a pair that I feel suit me well enough. I love bolder styles but lack the confidence to go for them initially!

HaveYouTriedARewardChart · 27/01/2015 22:52

I recently found the perfect pair in specsavers but it was pretty much the only pair in the shop that worked. IMO there are far too many dark / bright frames in the range of bigger framed glasses - for fair people it can be too overpowering. The pair I found were a lovely muted grey blue - more like that!

rootypig · 28/01/2015 05:07

I have a toddler and I want a pair of INDESTRUCTIBLE glasses. You hear me?! IN.DES.TRUCTIBLE. Grin

Frames that do not bend or break, lenses that do not scratch. I want to be able to throw them into my bag, sit on them, run them over with a micro scooter and for them to remain utterly unblemished.

MummyBtothree · 28/01/2015 07:06

I always let my 13 year old son choose his own frames. He doesnt have to wear them all of the time so one pair is sufficient. He's always spoilt for choice at Specsavers and loves the modern on-trend designs that they have to offer Smile

Patilla · 28/01/2015 08:10

rootypig I've not used them myself but I've got friends whose children had glasses from a very early age and both recommend Tomato Glasses. They say they are pricey but indestructible! Might be worth you having a look anyway.

rootypig · 28/01/2015 08:12

Oh! I meant MY glasses! Grin
Thanks though Grin Grin

Yes I do know that it's ludicrous that as a grown woman I cannot look after my own glasses. They just always seem to end up tossed somewhere. I wear them to drive so they're often coming off as I wrestle said toddler. Sigh.

Patilla · 28/01/2015 08:18

Ah. Sorry about that! It's a good point you make. I really need to change my glasses but am trying to hold on because of the damage my children do to my glasses. I think I'm going to have to admit defeat and get new ones as DS is still knocking them at six and I can wait five years for DD to become 6!!

NakedFamilyFightClub · 28/01/2015 09:10

I've just ordered a new pair of glasses from Specsavers.

I seem to be really limited in my choice because I only suit small rectangle shaped lenses and I need the side of the frame to cover the lens thickness, even though I get the lens thinned as much as possible.

A lot of the plastic frames in my local store seem to be rounded at the bottom and look awful on me, I wish I could get them in a different shape. Like a PP there seemed to be only one pair in the store that suited me.

Chocolateteacake · 28/01/2015 09:23

I usually buy 2 at a time and get old frames reglazed if possible and my sunniest redone too (if my prescription has changed I usually go for one light pair (pale metal, thin frame, no frame) and a Joe 90 pair for sports.

I discovered SS when I took up swimming and needed to be able to see! I got a cracking pair for £25 and everyone really likes them. I paid almost £400 for my last pair!

Thurlow · 28/01/2015 09:46

I haven't used Specsavers in a long time (though more due to location and which opticians my firm has an arrangement with) but two deals a rival optician has which I've chosen to use are:

1 - discount of glasses if you sign up for their contact lenses scheme

2 - a year's insurance at a very reasonable price. I also have a toddler so am well aware an arm could be snapped off at any moment! But the insurance will cover most of that cost, and if you don't use it, you carry it over to another year.

kittens · 28/01/2015 09:51

They need a bigger range of teenage glasses that are trendy, but fit smaller faces. We had a choice of 1 frame for my 12year old daughter when we went to get her new glasses last week.

KittieCat · 28/01/2015 11:42

Do you always go for the same type of frame?
The last two times I have bought news frames I have bought similar styles - I think I have finally discovered what suits me and current fashion has meant that the optician had this style available.

Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes?
I just have one pair that I actively wear - for a change I sometimes use lenses.

What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style?
I always help DH choose and he currently has two pairs on the go - both of which are quite different in style and colour

How long do you tend to keep your frames?
It really depends. I love, love, love my current frames and I will keep these as long as possible - others I have changed on my next visit to the optician. It also depends on how my prescription has changed.

And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different?
A two for one offer wouldn't necessarily sway me unless I could perhaps get some prescription sunnies.

How do you pick the frame which suits you best?
I try on about a million, narrow it down and then seek advice either from my very trusted optician or family.

AndHarry · 28/01/2015 12:41

I would really like an optician to tell me what shape face I have and which frames suit that shape. Not knowing is the #1 reason for me avoiding going for an eye test!

sarahjackjasper · 28/01/2015 12:51

I wear my glasses all the time, and always have just the one pair. I usually choose a metal frame as my lenses are normally quite small but fairly thick. The frame itself is either a gold colour or silver which i think suits my colouring.
I usually one have one pair as my prescription is normally quite expensive, although i have looked into the 2 for 1 offer, but have never really got any further.
My lenses are currently quite scratched but my glasses are not really a priority with 2 youngsters around, and one on the way.

sharond101 · 28/01/2015 13:03

I always help my Husband and he helps me choose. He suits a black or rimless pair whereas I find it difficult as I have a small face and many of them look too big. My Husband has to have a really thick lens in one of his eyes which can sometimes cause an issue and make some choices inappropriate. We replace my Husband's glasses every 2-3 years. He wears them alot for work. I on the other hand have had mine for around 6 years and will have them for many years to come (I hope). I only use them occasionally for reading large documents so they have stayed as good as new. We once bought glasses on an internet deal and they were so poor quality and the styles did not suit us at all. They looked different when they arrived and I kept mine for using at work only as a spare pair. They were really cheap though so can't complain too much. A 2 for 1 deal doesn't really suit me as I use them so little but for my Husband it would be useful. I have found however the cost isn't really a true 2 for 1 by the time you count in the wide frames he has.

GothicRainbow · 28/01/2015 13:10

I've currently got a dark quite plain pair. I did have coloured pairs when I was in my 20's but now have a sturdy dark framed pair as I wear my contact lenses more than my glasses. plus they need to be abit toddler proof and these have survived being thrown across the floor a few times!

They also tend to go with all my outfits.

LizLemonsGlasses · 28/01/2015 13:21

I usually find my selection of frames is fairly limited when choosing specs as I have quite a narrow face and a lot of styles look too wide or heavy on my face. So I'm often left with just 2 or 3 pricey designer frames to choose from - on top of that I have a fairly high prescription and try to get thin lenses, so all of this adds up to an expensive trip to the optician!

For that reason I tend not to change frames very often - the current pair I have, I've been wearing for at least 3 or 4 years I think. I'd quite like to change them tbh as I wear glasses more and contacts less in the last year or so and I find these frames are a bit heavy for constant wear.

I like specs in various colours/fashionable styles but always go for something neutral as I like to be fairly colour co-ordinated, it would annoy me to clash colourful specs and clothes! Also - too expensive if i go off them in a while and want to change them.

2 for 1 deals, again it's a good idea but still pretty costly when I factor in two pairs of lenses so I don't do it.

Always take guidance from the assistants, DH is never with me when I'm at the optician and I don't think he'd have a strong opinion anyway as he's not a glasses wearer!

daisydaisy75 · 28/01/2015 13:26

i wear the same style for years. some new styles are for younger people. i always choose neutral colour and simple frame and it goes well with everything.
