The team at Specsavers would love to know what you think about glasses frames these days - there are hundred's to choose from - but do you always go for the same type of frame? Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes? What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style? How long do you tend to keep your frames? And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different? How do you pick the frame which suits you best?

Specsavers say "Whatever your style, we can help you find frames that suit you best. Our collection of women's glasses includes a range of styles from classic chic to bold and contemporary. With stylish frames starting from just £25 a pair and designer frames priced from £99 to £149, there’s something to suit all tastes and pockets. All glasses come with PENTAX single vision lenses and a scratch-resistant treatment".

"Vibrant purples, reds, pinks and rich tortoiseshells are emerging trends in eyewear. We have a gorgeous collection of ladies glasses to help you add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. Our women’s glasses are made in a range of materials, including plastic, metal, stainless steel and titanium. If you have a preference for what your frames are made of, search by materials to find the perfect pair".

Share your thoughts and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

Would like to see more choice for teenagers without having to pay over the odds for designer frames. They are in a funny in between size needing bigger than kids' but smaller than women's frames.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/01/2015 21:18

We got designer ones for my teens for hardly any money at all. Less than £40 each iirc.

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 28/01/2015 21:25

I buy 2 for 1 for when my baby inevitably breaks a pair!

katiewalters · 28/01/2015 22:39

I wear glasses, and I tend to get different styles whenever I buy glasses as I like a change. I like my designer glasses, need to have a sturdy frame and look good. I tend to go for dark colours. I have raybans at the moment which I love. I tend to see a few different ones in the shop, and I will try them on and pick one favourite.

leanneth · 28/01/2015 22:40

I usually go for the same style and will usually try on a few of the same sort of style but if there is an offer on, I sometimes see the "free" pair as an opportunity to try something else. If I don't like them, then I'll just wear them at home!

I usually keep each pair until they have been completely and irreparably destroyed (usually by children!) or until another offer is on, I can't resist a bargain!

CheeseEMouse · 28/01/2015 22:45

I find that too many frames are in a colour palette of black /dark grey or silver - all colours that don't really go with my colouring and I don't like. This restricts my choice - so I would like to see more frames in different colours - my current pair of glasses has a pinky/orange hue. I dislike getting new glasses as they are so much a part of the way you look that it takes me a while to get used to them

Medoc · 28/01/2015 23:47

It took me a long time to choose my frames, as I wanted some that suited me best, and the pair I already had were ideal (but £350+ designer ones!) I did eventually find a very close match, picked them up... only to find they had rhinestones on the top of each arm Confused wtf? I mean why?

I bought them anyway, as they were the only pair that shape, that actually are a really good shape for me.

I couldn't actually find a 2nd pair that suited, so instead of 2 for 1, I got the anti-glare for free.

iffeeee · 29/01/2015 00:03

I am quite disappointed with the choice of women's frames at Specsavers. I have trouble finding a frame that doesnt dominate my face. Large, chunky frames - the mainstay of the selection - do not suit me. The staff are not that helpful either - all they could suggest for me last time was a rimless pair - which I duly purchased at £187 (had to pay extra to get the lenses thinned - chunky lenses do not make a good look in rimless frames). But these broke after a few months and I was told would cost £72 to repair!
I am currently wearing contact lenses in the day and ugly chunky frames (I got free for being part of the direct debit scheme for contact lenses) in the evening.
Seriously thinking of switching to a supermarket/internet optician - hey would be cheaper and the quality of the glasses and service couldnt be any worse...

Cintacmrs123 · 29/01/2015 08:17

The frames shape is early important my hubby has a rather large noise and this makes frame choosing difficult as often they do not sit on the bridge of his noise. He has just brought thin frames but I prefer him in thick frames. Also they tend to leave marks on his noise.

Sarsparilla · 29/01/2015 08:39

I once went for a really cheap pair of frames, and they were so heavy they gave me a headache.

So now I look for really lightweight frames. I've had my current ones for 5 years, and I'm still happy with them.

I got them on a buy one pair, get a free pair of prescription sunglasses promotion, which I think was a brilliant offer! I probably wouldn't have bothered with prescription sunnies otherwise, but they are so useful, I wear them all the time in the summer.

My frames are tortoiseshell brown, and match my eyes Wink. I wouldn't choose brightly coloured frames now unless I was going to have several different pairs, and be changing them frequently, though I had a bright purple pair, and an ice blue pair when I was younger.

But DD has new glasses and frames about once a year, and she always chooses a completely different colour, shape and style each time.

Rowgtfc72 · 29/01/2015 09:09

Just had a sight test and need new frames so very topical!
Dspenser explained the two for one offer then launched into if your lenses are too thick it will cost... we recommend anti glare....you should have this. ... The two for one offer seemed to vanish.
I also find choosing frames difficult as I like my glasses on to see how I look. I have been to an opticians before that used a computer to take your picture so you could see how you look.
Dds frames are a whole different ball game. She's worn glasses since she was three and has a big head so has never been able to wear the children's character frames( a dispenser once told me they didn't really fit over fives). I need her not to have small frames she can see over the top and under so that narrows the choice. She can only have teen glasses where the arms are adjustable, even less choice.

And I have to pay towards them as they aren't free under the NHS scheme even though she's only seven.
We go in and look at them all, explain the situation and we are given " the pair" There is no choice when you are seven with a larger than normal head!

Spirael · 29/01/2015 09:35

I usually have very little choice of frames, as I seemingly have a small face so the majority of frames are just too wide for me. I tend to prefer half frames and go for something subtle that will match in with pretty much anything I wear, as I can't afford more than one pair of glasses at a time.

MadMonkeys · 29/01/2015 09:57

I tend to choose the same sort of style again and again, and I don't have any difficulty finding the style I like. However the hardest thing in the world is trying them on and trying to assess them when I can't see... My vision is quite poor, so without prescription lenses I can't see a thing! Not sure how this could be remedied though.

HannahLI · 29/01/2015 10:51

They always have a really good choice of frames but I struggled to find one that suited me as I have such a small face and a lot looked very silly and just were not right. However I did manage to find two pairs that I liked one of which are my sunglasses which is why I took advantage of the 2 for 1 offer so I could have both.

CathBookworm · 29/01/2015 11:14

I'm quite short sighted (about -8 both eyes) so can't see much without my specs. Been wearing specs for about 30 years, starting with horrid blue NHS ones. I find it hard to see what I look like when I am trying them on, it takes me a long time to choose and I find the whole thing stressful! I also have to be mindful of the fact that I need to choose smallish lenses and no square shapes if possible-to ensure thinner lenses, though this doesn't seem to make a huge difference these days! It's so hard to find frames small enough that are also tasteful, sophisticated etc. I ideally like to have a couple of pairs, usually some sunglasses too. SO nice to see I am not alone, judging from comments here.

petalsandstars · 29/01/2015 13:30

I would also like staff that can advise properly - my DH had frames far too narrow for his face and it wasn't until I pointed out the arms being overextended that they noticed. And weren't helpful in finding wider ones

Boobyandthebeads67 · 29/01/2015 14:03

I love to wear bright purples and pinks on my glasses. I tend to wear a lot of these colours any way so I know my glasses will co-ordinate with outfits. For me, my glasses are a statement piece. I don't particularly like having to wear glasses so seeing as I have to wear them then I want them to be as fun as possible and make a statement about it rather than trying to hide them. Smile

dstill1964 · 29/01/2015 15:42

There are some great frames about but usually the ones I like are the ones that make me look like Dame Edna Everage when I actually have them on. I have learnt to try a wide variety on and also take a "responsible" adult with me who can be relied on to honestly give me their opinion. I'm also a bit disappointed that there is not a wider range of designer glasses available within branches. I know you can have a copy of your prescription and glasses made up anywhere but it seems a lot of hassle and so to be honest I usually end up with an NHS pair that I cant wait to recycle again in a couple of years.

But then, its never really about the people who really need the glasses, is it, bat? It's about persuading people who would otherwise be happy with a basic pair that they should have three or four pairs of fashion accessory glasses (which give an extremely high profit margin).

choccyp1g · 29/01/2015 17:28

I get my (very basic prescription) reading glasses from the pound shop.. I find they last just as long as the posh ones which is actually not very long at all. Something about the shape of my nose and head means ALL glasses slide down and go loose on the arms, while simultaneously digging dents into my skull.
Anyway, if the pound shop can make so many lovely colours and patterned frames, why are the posh ones so boring?

Pico2 · 29/01/2015 17:43

I trawled the high street chains for my last frames. I wanted strong, "statement" frames. I only seemed to find plastic ones without separate nose pads. I have a bit of a wonky nose so none of them sat well on me. I ended up at an independent optician who had gorgeous titanium frames made by Bevel. They have proven to be really robust against my DD (then 1) and 3.5 years later I am pleased to have spent a bit more on them. DH now has similar ones.

I like the 2 for 1 offer that specsavers do however last time I found I just wore one pair of glasses all the time so I've opted for sunglasses this time which seems more sensible! I like that you can mix and match in that way. I'm actually going to pick up some new glasses from spec savers tomorrow!
