So, what crafty Christmas projects will you be doing this year? Do you decorate the Christmas tree together? If you do, do you make your own decorations? Or perhaps you bake Christmas cakes and treats together?
Whatever you and your DCs will be making this Christmas, Hobbycraft would love to hear about it.

We have made painted Christmas Eve plates with space for a drink, carrot and mince pie. Really cute and will be able to reuse them each year Grin

Moogdroog · 26/11/2014 23:59

We'll be making paper chains and paper snow flakes. Would quite like to do some salt dough if I can face the mess!

KnittingNuala · 27/11/2014 09:02

mummyofmany8 · 27/11/2014 09:29

I like to keep my children busy over the Christmas period,we make cards ,ornaments for the tree we have 2 first Christmas this year ,paper chains we make name cards for the Christmas table ,A gingerbread house to make and their favourite is fairy cakes & biscuit decorating

oolaroola · 27/11/2014 09:46

I'm planning some paper snow flake decorations. It's been frosty recently and we've been looking at ice crystals so that will tie in some learning about crystal structures in nature.
We have made salt dough tree decorations in the past so some of these may need revamping.
Also we usually bake some christmas biscuits which the boys love icing.
We have also been planning some garlands made from holly and evergreens from the garden.
Ds1 is keen to make some home made chocs and we have plans to make some decorated boxes to put them in as gifts.

isitsnowingyet · 27/11/2014 10:27

Making paper snowflakes; making Christmas cakes and ginger cookies with icing/decorations. Possibly also doing some home-made Christmas decs. DD is 9 this year, and she may not be so keen next year!

MuckleMadMoose · 27/11/2014 10:48

This year we will be making Christmas cards using Christmas shaped cookie cutters as stamps. (Last year we made them with a print of DS1's foot and the slogan 'Mistletoes' on them). We will also making peppermint creams for gifts and doing some ginger bread biscuits.

marmitebear · 27/11/2014 11:50

We have already made some white soda clay decorations but I'd like to get some more cutters and make more. We've also been decorating wooden bauble shapes and I'm hoping to get up to Ikea again soon to get a gingerbread house. We did one together as a family last year and really enjoyed it!

mummybean84 · 27/11/2014 13:13

My DD and I are making snow globes this year for relatives and friends for christmas, we brought empty globes and added a nativity picture my daughter coloured in herself. The look fab and it makes a personal inexpensive gift. We are also making nativity scenes using stickers. Last year my daughter was 2 so we just made simple paper chain decorations and a fairy for the top of our tree.
We also make our own cards at christmas with a picture of the front of our little girl. Smile

Miggly · 27/11/2014 18:18

We'll be making:

Christmas cards
Loo roll Christmas trees / donkeys
Some sort of cardboard nativity figures - possibly falling back on loo roll middles again...!
Gingerbread men
Paper snowflakes to hang
Paper chains

Can't wait!

sportinguista · 27/11/2014 19:01

We are making festive pinecone decorations. Collect the pine cones, paint with a layer of white paint to look like snow, then top with some silver glitter paint, hook on some cheap replacement bauble hangers et voila you now have some cheap and lovely looking decorations and most DC love getting stuck in with glitter paint - although it does take a while to come off everything! Grin

MaryWestmacott · 27/11/2014 19:44

Well, we tried the silver paint stamping on the brown paper to make wrapping paper with my 18 month old.

It was a success in terms of filling up a rainy afternoon, and ensuring she had a lot of fun. However, my kitchen is rather decorated and we're buying wrapping paper again this year....

Maybe next year...

Princessxo · 27/11/2014 23:39

DS loves decorating so we leave the sparkles to him.

Blessedandgrateful · 27/11/2014 23:43

We will be making :
1)our own rustic advent calendar made with bakers twine , pegs , and brown envelopes stuffed with chocolate with a date sticker stuck on the front of the envelope.

  1. snow globes made out of jam jars.

  2. our own wrapping paper by using brown paper wrap decorated by the children with red pom-poms and wiggly eyes to make reindeer images.

  3. We like decorating oranges with cloves too to make patterns :)

5)simple candle holders made out of jam jars with sea salt in the bottom to look like snow - a tea light placed on top and then a dried orange slice and cinnamon stick wrapped with ribbon round the outside.

  1. and finally reindeer food made out of oats, sunflower hearts, sugar and edible red/green glitter.

I could not do Christmas without my Hobbycraft glue gun!!

Carriecakes80 · 27/11/2014 23:51

We are making Christmas Tree Pinecones! Loads of fun and so simple!

You only need pinecones, paint, glue, glitter, cotton wool, and a napkin holder for the tree-stand!

Its been so much fun, we add little tags on for family and friends and even made one for our daughters Barbie house which now looks very festive! Its loads of fun! x

FaridaK · 28/11/2014 00:03

We have made pop up cards.
This year we are also designing and making our own block print fabrics.
We will use the fabric to make napkins and tablecloths. Maybe cushions and poofs too if there's time.

quornmummy · 28/11/2014 12:23

making reindeer food from oats and glitter
xmas decorations/cards
gingerbread men
little basket so we can receive magic letters and write to Santa in the run up to Christmas

0898 · 28/11/2014 15:33

DS is 5 and loves to design his own tree decorations. I've discovered Shrinkles which he draws on with Sharpies and I put in the oven and bake to 1/7th the size. We buy the plain A4 Shrinkle sheets and a big bold kid's design looks great scaled down. The fairy lights shine beautifully through them too.

knightonian · 28/11/2014 16:45

we will be making bespoke Flora christmas cards, making an Happyland nativity scene, watching the xmas lights get switched on and Chrustmas rice messy play --- and that's just this weekend

TopsysMum · 28/11/2014 18:31

Making 3d Christmas Trees and hopefully decorating some baubles ??

Wargghhhh · 28/11/2014 21:37

We do paper chains, and salt dough decorations - this year we might even try and make our own nativity scene out of a cardboard box! The kids are getting older now (7 and 5) and have a lot more patience than they used too, plus the older one is very arty and loves her crafts!

SmileyShazza · 28/11/2014 22:01

We are starting Elf on the Shelf this year (god help me). We are going to make decorations during december and DS is going to have a little tree in his room that he can decorate. I really wanted to do a book advent but not managed to get organised in time - maybe we'll start that one next year :)

johura27 · 28/11/2014 22:31
