The team at Hobbycraft would like to hear about the Christmas arts and crafts activities you’ll be doing with your DCs this year.

Hobbycraft say, “We all remember our own special Christmas family traditions whether its making homemade decorations for the tree, helping bake the Christmas cakes, writing cards or simply the excitement of Father Christmas coming down the chimney! Here at Hobbycraft we’d love to hear about how your Christmas family traditions.”

So, what crafty Christmas projects will you be doing this year? Do you decorate the Christmas tree together? If you do, do you make your own decorations? Or perhaps you bake Christmas cakes and treats together?
Whatever you and your DCs will be making this Christmas, Hobbycraft would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters can win £100 Hobbycraft gift cards
Please note your comments may be included on Hobbycraft's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,

We'll be making thumb print snowmen and hand print angels, with the age written on the back to look back on in future years for the younger children and salt dough decorations and pipe cleaner candy canes for the older one with glittery play dough to play with and tree shaped biscuits to decorate.

I love Christmas time and hopefully we are going to get arty clarty this festive season.

We are doing simple potato printing designs on wrapping paper, cards and gift tags for grandparents presents.

White snowflakes with a generous sprinkling of glitter ( on the paper, the table, the floor, the dog in the next room ) and then I'm going to laminate them before we hang them up at the windows.

I've seen a really cute idea of a reindeer made using hand prints which we are going to try and make dough Christmas tree decorations.

We bake Santa's cookies on Christmas Eve, chocolate chip is his favourite apparently!

DD is 2 so we'll be doing lots of baking and making nice Christmas pictures. We may try and make decorations, we'll see how that goes!

So far ds and I have made the Christmas cake and will make a batch of mince pies this week. I'm planning to make paper chains using some Christmas craft paper, a paper wreath with lights and a coloured in garland with him. He probably won't do the tree as he's only 3 and I'm a little anal about it. We'll also make Christmas cards and tags.

thesoupdragon44 · 29/11/2014 11:46

We have already made a home made door wreath with pop-pom makers which we bought from Hobby craft and are super easy to do. I'm also planning to make Christmas cake decorations, and some fun snowman gifts for my sons friends.

Paper chains, popcorn garlands and paper-plate Christmas trees - along with lots of baking. My eldest DD (9) wants to try make some stuffed bird decorations using my huge collection of fat quarters... I am a fabric hoarder!

Home made Christmas cards for grandparents is something we do every year, age appropriate - ie, when tiny it was cotton wool snow men, or hand print Christmas trees (green handprint with fingers to top, red thumbprint pot, when dry stick on star stickers and drawn ornaments), now we are attempting painted or drawn Christmas scenes (with liberal application of glitter). A carefully formed but wonky "Merry Christmas" (or incorrectly spelt variation) across the top and many many kisses inside makes for very happy grandparents!

DS1 learned to make beautiful paper star/snowflakes in school so will be getting him to make some more. We've also been making white wool pompoms to thread onto dental floss to make a 'snowball' garland. We always make lots of Christmas themed gingerbread, and I've had the brainwave of turning all their Hama bead star shaped creations into hanging tree decorations, which they can give to their teachers and TAs.

They always spend an afternoon making paperchains too.

cambridgemumof4 · 30/11/2014 22:07

making nativity scenes in shoe-boxes....

spiced-biscuits with holes in the middle where we put boiled sweets - the bake - so they look like stained-glass windows

calendars for grandparents

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/11/2014 22:23

We've made some salt dough decorations for the tree and we're planning on making some paper chains. We also have a few craft kits for Christmas decorations that I get out when we need to waste an hour.

sealight123 · 01/12/2014 09:24

We've made a Christmas tree centrepiece, clay tree decorations, paper snowflakes and so so so many cakes lol!
