Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

When i'm not well i tend to eat more than normal.... not sure if i'm just odd cos i thought most people went off their food when ill.
Comfort food like a stodgy cake, chocolate and toast and marmite all help me, with lots of coffee, comfortable fleecy pjs and my bed.

NannyPlumIsMyIdol · 13/11/2014 20:22

Homemade soup, lots of tea, a hot toddy, clean pyjamas, a warm blanket, trashy tv and a hug from either my DH or DCs.

barker99 · 13/11/2014 20:22

Being allowed to stay in bed (things you take for granted before you have kids), ideally with a good chick lit book

I have been getting cold, flu amd sneezing since i was a six years old. No medication has ever worked for me. But this year since i had my second child i realized how inportant it was for me to be healthy for i can be a good mum to my loved children. I am determined not to be ill or have flu or cough or cold or sneeze. The solution to my problems was to drink plenty of warm water, decaf tea, milk and honey with water.
If i get cold i would keep using tissue through out the whole day to wipe my nose and use hand sanitzer to clean my hands so germs does not spread everywhere. I like being proactive as i feel happy being proactive, i.e shopping, school runs, cooking. This is a form of exercise for me and helps release the endorphins chemicals within the body. Whenever i go out i would wear my coat with hat on my head and wrap a scarf around my neck and thick woolly socks with long boots.
I make sure i go urination frequently as that help filter any germs inside my body.
I find that it neccessary to check duvet set every week on average.
I have two children. My four year old child i keep him in jumper or thick cardigan inside the house. When we go outside or to school he enjoys wearing his boots, spiderman hat, gloves and scarf with thick fleece and coat on top. If he coughs then i give him cough syrup or for cold i give paracetomol or nurofen. Putting vicks around his neck, nose, chest and forehead helps stop cough.when i give him bath in steamy warm water, it can help releive block nose. Also for block nose and difficulty with breathing saline nose drop, olbas oil, vapour vicks for kids is also effective. Keep his head propped up with two pillow also easy blocked nose.
For my four month old i give him 2.5ml paracetomol for cold and flu. For his nose block saline nose drop and let him sleep upright on the pram and as much as he wants to sleep day or night.

For me - tea on tap, daytime TV (what luxury!) and forgetting about the chores is rest enough!! Oh...and a muscular oiled up man with grapes on a tray..... Grin

The kids - loads of films and a day off school makes a cold seem much better!!

littleme96 · 13/11/2014 20:52

I enjoy the slowing down necessitated by being under the weather, it's a change of gear whereas normally I'm an adrenaline junkie, always running to do more in less time!

Mini05 · 13/11/2014 21:12

Just gone through 3 weeks of virus!! Hacking cough, cahtar all on chest.

For me, once the coughing was gone and I could get some sound sleep again plenty of resting up, bed/sofa with blanket watching tv. Plenty of soup( because that's all I wanted) ummm
Plenty of hot drinks, camomile, honey and lemon, couldn't stomach the thought of coffee/tea completely went off it till it was over. Then did I enjoy a cappuccino!!
