British Turkey have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters use their leftover turkey during the festive season.

Here’s what they say, “British Turkey is a campaign to encourage people to eat more delicious British-farmed turkey both at Christmas and all year round. Turkey is a great versatile meat as it carries flavours really well, and what’s more, the breast meat is a really healthy choice as it is high in protein and lower in fat than any other mainstream meat so eating turkey makes perfect sense at family mealtimes and for those watching their weight. Look out for mince, breast fillets, steaks and diced thigh in supermarkets.

“However, Christmas is just around the corner and focus will be on buying traditional whole turkeys and large joints for the Big Day. British Turkey is here to help with everything you need to roast your turkey to perfection. We know that cooking a whole turkey for the Christmas table may seem a little daunting for some, but it certainly has its benefits. As well as having the most festive nostalgia, a whole bird is best value for money - for about the same price as a crown or a ready stuffed breast joint, you get the lovely leg meat. This means yummy cold cuts for Boxing Day and even enough leftovers enough to create a tasty dish for the freezer. So this Christmas plump for a whole turkey - you’ll get 3 meals in 1!”

So, do you buy a whole turkey for Christmas, or at another point during the season? If so, what do you do with the leftovers (or do you manage to finish the whole turkey on Christmas day?!)? Perhaps you make turkey sandwiches for lunch for the next few days? Or maybe you make a lovely turkey curry with the leftovers? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who adds their comments will be added into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks

It has to be a good old turkey sandwich - a little stuffing, a smear of gravy for moistness, some cranberry sauce, slices of turkey, a pinch of salt and maybe some lettuce and mayonnaise if you're in the mood. If you want to be extra indulgent you can sneak a slice of leftover gammon in here too.

It's a once-a-year kind of sandwich and it's delicious in its simplicity.

Our Turkey is always huge and we have a lot of trimmings on Christmas day so we have lots of leftovers.

Sticky shredded Turkey with honey, sesame seeds and a bit of chilli to top a big green salad and garnished with pomegranate seeds.

Turkey curry with rice, mango chutney and home made nanns.

Turkey/ham and left over veggie pie with a meaty gravy (I make it using a roux like you would a cheese sauce but use stock rather than milk) i make 2 of these and top one with mash for the freezer and then one topped with puff pastry for that day.

We have lots cold in sandwiches, baguettes or with salads and we always have a plate on the Buffett table.

They very last bits get slung in a stirfry with noodles and a basic Thai sauce with a bag of stir fry veg.

I think there are far too many people with the opinion that Turkey is dry and boring but we love it, it freezes well and always tastes different and delicious in every meal we use it for.

We make a curry on boxing day, and if we're lucky enough to have left overs after that, cold cuts with salads and breads

Oh my goodness turkey sandwiches for a week after Christmas is one of my fave things about the festive season! Love turkey curry and risotto as well but sandwiches are the best!

badgermum · 14/11/2014 13:52

alabaster002 · 14/11/2014 14:37

Part cold with salad on Boxing Day; part to my elderly neighbour and, of course, some for her cat!

BRILLBY · 14/11/2014 14:47

I try to get the best value by roasting the largest I can. We have turkey Christmas dinner then slice and freeze the left over breast for sandwiches later, so we don't get turkey overload all at once, then make soup with the carcass in the pressure cooker.

empire11 · 14/11/2014 15:43

Turkey curry, then turkey and vegetable soup with all the leftover veg too

jules631 · 14/11/2014 15:48

NaturalElfYayChristmas · 14/11/2014 19:01

I live in the country so I get to order a turkey from a farmer friend. Love knowing it's had a good life before. If I can get to the turkey before DH snaffles it all for sandwiches, I enjoy turkey soup the best. Healthy and frankly that's all I fancy!
However, since going to America I've discovered turkey legs in our supermarket - all the family get excited when I serve caveman style drumsticks. Yum.
Low carbing ATM and turkey covers so many bases.
