I'm afraid I sometimes cheat and buy smartprice buns and cooking chocolate for them to decorate with sprinkles, jelly diamonds etc.
Cheapie cake mixes are fine too!

My little boy likes to help out with everything so he will go and get the pans and food out of the cupboard and has even helped grate cheese. I am not really a baker but as he gets older I will let him get more involved with making things.

My nearly 3 year old daughter and I bake most weeks, and her favourite is chocolate cookies which she loves to decorate afterwards. We also bake breadsticks, cakes, cheesy bites, and cheapo cake mixes are great too. I think she loves decorating things the most....a budding artist maybe?!

We love making homemade pizzas together! The kids get to add their favourite toppings and roll out the dough - great fun!

Another favourite (of course) is baking cakes! Grin

My children are mainly into spreading their topping on sandwiches or pouring cereal and milk than helping me cook. Unless it's cake/scone making time of course, and then I cant get rid of them Grin

We bake all kinds of things with DD1, and will be doing the same with DD2 as soon as she's big enough! (She's only 3 months old.) It's a fun activity we do together as a family, as DH loves to bake as well.

We started with shortbread, as it's safe to eat any or all the ingredients raw. Now we've made all kinds of things with DD1, from bread to pastries to pasta bakes and curry.

In addition to the ability to cook and bake being incredibly useful, I think it also helps DD1 eat healthily as she's more inclined to try things that she's helped make.

Messy but fun

My boy is 3 and I'd like us to cook together more. We make chocolate crispies and he helps put home made pizza toppings on. He has also been known to stir a cake mix for me, can get rather messy!

My 3yo loves to cook with me. He'll quite happily try and peel potatoes and carrots, likes stealing food off the chopping board, and wants to stir and mix.

But cakes are obviously a favourite. The other day he spotted a box on sale of gingerbread men mix, so we bought that and made it the other day, and then he could do the icing - cue mess and licked hands.

N loves food, so being able to make his own food is something he really enjoys (helped by nursery who do cooking sessions with them). If I'm not ready to go downstairs in time in the morning, he'll help himself to breakfast - cereal or toast. I'm planning on getting him into cooking now so hopefully he'll be more willing to help when he's older

I love cooking with my kids and it's great for learning - from following instructions 'stop pouring', to measuring and texture play. The best thing is that there is such a direct reward for the work put in, which is great for my SN son.

Cooking with my three year old daughter is so much fun as her enthusiasm for it really rubs off on me! We had a great time last night making a massive pizza dough and throwing it about and stretching it. She thought it was hilarious! She also really enjoyed putting her own toppings on there and watching it change through the oven door. She always eats her dinner up if she's been involved in making it.
Food conjures so many lovely memories and I want that for when my dd is older too. My Grandmother died when I was about 4 and the only memory I have of her is cooking with her in her fantastic 50's style kitchen! Just like her, I love to bake cakes.
Nothing beats having the house smelling of roast dinners, cakes, curries, pies on the go. It's what makes a home!
