Mini-Mary’s and pint-size Paul’s can take the challenge and cook up some mouth-watering meals in their very own, beautifully crafted wooden play kitchen. Sprinkle on a huge dollop of fun and bring the kitchens to life by simply inserting a tablet into the kitchen’s secure compartment and downloading the free Plum app for lights, fun and baking action! Blending tradition with technology, there are three kitchens to choose with four different foods to cook including popcorn.”

We do baking, cakes, breads and biscuits.

eteo · 11/09/2014 19:56

we love making pizza! i made the base before hand and then ask kids to decorate it.

Emrob86 · 13/09/2014 11:31

Simple things like Banana Bread or Muffins or Swedish Cinnamon Buns. Things that kids can get involved in!

I do also cook lasagne with the kids - lots of stirring and the layering is fun too! :)

I always talk about everything we are doing and also tells them about food hygiene and make sure everybody washes their hands and that nobody drools in the food! :)

One of the things we never did much of as children was cook. Occasionally we were allowed to make Sunday tea and that involved using the Henry's cat cookbook and putting everything on cocktail sticks. As you do when you are 8....

I like involving my daughter in what she eats, so whilst she is too little to really help much, she watches me cook and I talk to her as I do it. Her favourite is home-made lasagne. I look forward to her being more involved as she gets older but maybe with fewer things on sticks!!

cookies & popcorn

BigBugs · 13/09/2014 19:22

We are really into healthy eating at the moment and so love making sugar and gluten free peanut butter cookies with dd age 4. Its such a simple recipie that takes hardly any time to prepare and only 10 mins in the oven. They taste delicious

Our absolute favourite thing to make is our own hummus and then to make our own flat-breads .. with my two children who are five and eight but also with the younger children that I am a Childminder for too ... we all love our breads and garlicky hummus!

cluckyhen · 13/09/2014 21:11

I have always encouraged my kids to help in the kitchen and love making cakes with them. Our favourite is coffee cake.

My DS makes a fantastic cheesecake from scratch and can also cook steak to perfection.

My DD makes a fantastic tuna pasta salad and lush poached eggs!

There have been many unedible meals but this year as they are getting older we set them a £10 meal challenge - to chose a menu and cook it from scratch for £10 or less for 4. We had fantastic fun - it taught the kids you can cook from scratch, how to make mistakes and we had fantastic fun scoring the creations! I also loved hearing 'I'm really tired after cooking dinner' 'Well how do you think mum feels everyday!'

I think it al about letting them do what they want, experimentation, and letting them use equipment as they they know into be safe and how to use it :)

shawbarbara · 14/09/2014 15:32

Fairy cakes and bun decorating. I made the apple crumble DC really enjoyed helping me

sweetnuttydogs · 14/09/2014 15:57

My 2 youngest girls 5 and 8 love to help out in the kitchen, they love to mix when we bake cakes add toppings and icing. If we are cooking dinners they help to prepare the vegetables and also I teach them about what we are cooking and how :)

embabes7 · 14/09/2014 16:26

The main thing my son makes in the kitchen is a big mess! That's just fine with me. :) love him having a good time

GiveMeCheesecake · 14/09/2014 18:51

DS and I bake cakes and biscuits together at least once a week. DS is 3 so he does the stirring and mixing and whisking (and tasting!)

He also helps to rolls out the dough and use the cookie cutter. He has his own apron and rolling pin and gets so excited when we're about to cook.

When I cook dinner, he asks me questions about the ingredients. I get him to smell the herbs and spices and garlic and I chat to him as I cut the vegetables. I'm looking forward to him being a little bit older so he can get involved in the cooking.

sarah3875 · 14/09/2014 19:39

My DC's have loved cooking with me since they were very little. We make just about anything and I really believe it helps them to explore and try new things. Our favorite main has to be homemade pizza and their friends love coming round and making them too. We also love sausage rolls, chocolate jaffa cake and gruffalo crumble.

winkymcwinkle · 14/09/2014 20:02

I love baking with my 5yo DD, she loves mixing and stirring.

jcalel80 · 14/09/2014 21:10

i let my little ones help with prep if im chopping veg they can put it in the colondar etc

fairyprincess79 · 14/09/2014 21:32

My DD (aged 2) loves helping in the kitchen. Clearly there are easy ones for her to get involved in when we bake - mashing the bananas for banana muffins, getting messy making crumbles etc. But she loves helping with things like peeling onions and mixing sauces too. And if its things I'm not happy with her helping with, she's generally pretty happy 'washing up' or washing the veggies for me

Gill81uk · 14/09/2014 23:34

We love making pizzas from scratch. Use a simple scone-like recipe for the base (little ones have lots of fun mixing and 'tickling') and then loads of fun putting all the toppings on.

lilrahi · 14/09/2014 23:36

My DD always sits by me and watches what I'm doing, she'll ask all sorts of questions and loves to be given little jobs to do.

angiesandhu1 · 15/09/2014 09:15

Cupcakes with different decorations

Flickabella · 15/09/2014 10:43

My children love to help make gingerbread biscuits in different shapes and then have fun decorating them with icing pens and sweets

caz123456 · 15/09/2014 13:02

My daughter started 'cooking' by making Angel Delight! We've since moved onto cupcakes, and flapjacks. Cooking together is great for spending quality time together, as well as encouraging literacy and maths skills weighing and reading the ingredients.

TiggersAngel7774 · 15/09/2014 13:29

my son enjoys cooking but hes very impatient waiting for cupcakes so he can decorate

micra · 15/09/2014 17:47

WE keep it simple. Both kids love basic Victoria sandwich mix, either as a cake or buns, sometimes chocolate flavoured, and with various different decorations. Chocolate crispies and flapjack are also, quick, easy, tasty, before their interest wanes.

chickensandbees · 15/09/2014 19:57

DH bakes with the DDs a lot. Mainly lemon cake, carrot cake and daddy biscuits. They love it and it's a great way to start them off cooking and learning about ingredients. Where butter and milk come from etc. They also learn patience, waiting for it to cook.
