Plum, the active play specialists want to know what MNers love to cook with their children. What tasty treats do you try and make together? Whether it’s savoury snacks, heavenly cakes or delicious dinners, let Plum know.

Plum says “Cooking with your little one can be so much fun. We’ve launched the first ever Interactive Kitchen Range for children aged 3+ offering a fresh and exciting way to play that will whip up your little ones imagination into a cooking frenzy. Mini-Mary’s and pint-size Paul’s can take the challenge and cook up some mouth-watering meals in their very own, beautifully crafted wooden play kitchen. Sprinkle on a huge dollop of fun and bring the kitchens to life by simply inserting a tablet into the kitchen’s secure compartment and downloading the free Plum app for lights, fun and baking action! Blending tradition with technology, there are three kitchens to choose with four different foods to cook including popcorn.”

So, tell us your favourite recipes for cooking with your DCs, and maybe get some inspiration from other MNers.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a Plum Snowdrop Interactive Kitchen worth £99.99.

3 ingredient shortbread is a favourite here! (butter, flour, sugar). It's fairly easy to work with / shape once the ingredients are combined so the kids can use one of the 100+ cutters (not exaggerating there! haha) we have to make their favourite characters!

lottegraham · 08/09/2014 14:15

i love to cook triffles, lotes of fruit and jelly :) my son loves to help (eat as i bake) his favourite is to mix the jelly when i pour the cold water into the mixture x

I love cooking with my 3 dcs and there's not much I can't involve them with, as long as I'm feeling patient and have some time! Baking is always their favourite wet day activity, but they are pretty good at helping with real meal preparation as well and enjoy that nearly as much.

Even better, there's even some things they can do on their own (nearly!) these days:

All 3 love making mini-pizzas using pita bread, tomato puree, cheese and veg - ds (9) supervises, grates the cheese and does sharp knife jobs, dd1 (6) cuts the easier veg (with a butter knife Grin) and dd2 (4) spreads the paste, positions the veg and sprinkles the cheese. All I need to do is mediate turn on the grill and serve up the food :)

Their tomato/veg pasta sauce is pretty good too...

DD is only 15 months but helps with the scones! She does the part I hate - rubbing together the butter and flour mixture! It's something I really want to get her involved in from a young age - learning where food comes from and thinking outside the box when it comes to flavour.

MissRee · 08/09/2014 15:39

My DD loves to help me in the kitchen with anything and everything I cook. She helps chop veg, mixed cakes and outs the cheese in the cheese sauce for me. Any small task she can help with really!

Miaow1234 · 08/09/2014 19:59

We bake every week. Buns, cheese scones, cheese straws, biscuits. My little girl also helps prepare dinner, an all round great way to learn about all the areas of the curriculum too as always connected in someway.

i love cooking with my 4 year old daughter, she's very creative a inquisitive, she suggests new recipes and offers to help all the time. I think it's important to spend time with them as it creates happy memories and teaches them importance if healthy eating

My 4yo DS loves making up his own cake recipes so we end up with all sorts of weird and wonderful concoctions. Mango cake was yum (normal sponge with mango chunks stirred in), pear cake was horrible, with lumps of squishy brown-black pear Confused As well as being fun, it gets him thinking about experimenting with different mixtures: why one thing works and another doesn't, what might taste nice, how to change something to make it better next time.

1yo DD also likes cooking but generally eats the ingredients Hmm

Dannie0790 · 08/09/2014 21:31

Me and my stepson (5) are all for cupcakes, cookies and brownies! While my little cupcake (10 months) makes a racket with pans and spoons on the floor!

lottietiger · 08/09/2014 22:09

Ds spends loads of time in the kitchen, pArtly because I often work it the kitchen table and partly because he loves watching and helping with the cooking. He is only 20 months so his input is collecting things from the fridge, choosing things from the cookbook and whisking things like omelettes. He also likes the "power tool" side of things like turning the mixer on and operating the timer.

MrsSpa · 08/09/2014 22:25

We do loads in the kitchen, though I find from experience I have to be 'in the zone' (ie expecting a mess and not bothered by it!). My DC are still little so I don't let them do hot things or sharp knives yet, but we make cakes/biscuits/ bread rolls/ puddings. DD (3) can do quite a lot if I instruct her well. Also DD likes to operate food processor and microwave, and I do get her involved in microwave cooking but with close supervision when things are hot. DS (14m) gets to sit in his high chair with a spoon and a bowl and little bits of whatever we're using (butter, flour, sugar etc). DD can whisk pancakes and measure stuff out for porridge, we often have these for breakfast. She enjoys trying to spread stuff on bread, toast etc sometimes. DD also likes washing up - the sort where she ends up soaked after taking 10 mins to wash 2 spoons!

prumarth · 08/09/2014 22:29

We make banana bread, muffins (badly, always spread outwards not upwards) and pizza. Easy and fun!

MrsLJ2014 · 08/09/2014 22:31

My little boy (17 weeks old!!) is too young to help at the moment but he has already enjoyed watching me make fairy cakes and rice crispie cakes (with butter and golden syrup added - yum!) I loved talking him through what I was doing and it will be great when he can help me, especially with the licking of the spoon!

del2929 · 09/09/2014 10:21

we love doing our own mini pizzas and toasties. eton mess is also a firm favourite in our house. so easy to do aswell,..(which is what i like, lol)

BiggerYellowTaxi · 09/09/2014 12:54

My son loves mashing up bananas for banana muffins. He likes baking anything really, so long as he gets to lick the bowl.

izzy76 · 09/09/2014 17:46

BathshebaDarkstone · 09/09/2014 21:36

We do lots of bangers and mash and roast chicken and gravy pie. Smile

Bubbles85 · 10/09/2014 07:29

DC sits and watches me cook to learn and I let her taste as many different flavours as possible.

graysquirrel · 10/09/2014 14:14

We love making pizzas. Cut up lots of colourful vegetables and make funny faces on the pizza base. My girls gobble up all the veg as they are so proud of their efforts!

My eldest is at school now and she helps prepare her snacks, fruit salads / cucumber/ carrots etc. I find the choice and independence means she always eats them.

CrewElla · 11/09/2014 09:36

My boys aren't that interested in cooking or baking but they do like to eat!

My eldest will help me added spices to the cooking but that's about it. The youngest just sits there and bangs on things ;-)

candish63 · 11/09/2014 09:43

My kids love cooking cakes, they make such a mess and eat half of it before it gets in the tins. But it is a good learning and bonding experience

sealight123 · 11/09/2014 12:46

Baking cakes is always a good starter but we love to cook vegetable lasagne as a family!
My daughter loves putting everything in layers :)

mumsbe · 11/09/2014 14:41

We love cooking togethet and being creative we make cakes pancakes and some things that dont need cooking like little tinkerbells that we did for her 6th birthday party.
We took one marshmellow dipped th top in melted chocolate and poped a malteeser on top.
Next we took a pink wafer and cut a little wing shape and wand we put a slit in the back of our marshmellow put 2 wing shape wafers in and then put a slit in the front of the marshmellow for the wand also made from wafer. Finally dust with some glitter taste lovely.
Being creative with my little ones really gets there imagination going we also create characters out of iceing and make stories up

Rigbyroo · 11/09/2014 16:51

We love making cheese and Ham muffins and banana bread. Best bit for dd is rubbing flour and butter together!
