Watch Gossip Girl with Mumsnet and win an iPad mini

You may remember we approached you last month to come up with the name for a new Mumsnet TV club - and after much vigorous discussion, you came up with the frankly brilliant 'Watch with Mumsnet'.

Well, the day has dawned: we're delighted to announce that, in association with Netflix, "Watch with Mumsnet" is now officially in existence.

The way it'll work is that we'll watch a TV series together over the course of a few weeks, and have a thread running for the duration, on which you can discuss the plots, characters, twists and scandals with other goggle-eyed Mumsnetters. On top of this, Netflix are offering some amazing prizes if you join the discussion* ? this month you can win an iPad mini. Yes, really. You're welcome Grin.

The plan is that "Watch with Mumsnet" will introduce us all to some exclusive new shows this winter. The Christmas party season is yet to begin, after all, and it's too cold to go out anyway, so why not binge on some great telly on Netflix to get you through?

To kick off, we'll be watching Gossip Girl season 6, which is available to watch on Netflix now (along with seasons 1-5). So whether you're new to the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite or you only have season 6 to catch up on, please do watch and get involved.

So tell us, who do you think Gossip Girl is? And, more importantly, who is inviting all these Manhattan adolescents to such exclusive parties? These questions are just suggestions - feel free to discuss any aspect of GG or tell us what you like/dislike.

Remember, you can watch every episode of Gossip girl here through Netflix. Happy watching!

xoxo MNHQ

  • Only genuine contributions will be entered: By this we mean watch and join in the discusson about Gossip Girls, not just one liners to win the ipad Wink

This prize draw is now closed.

Oh my gosh! I've never seen season 6 before but wow this is cool - I didn't beleive that Dan was GG but goign to watch that episode now!

suewilly · 30/11/2013 18:16

I watched Gossip Girl when it was originally broadcast so I know who was eventually revealed as being Gossip Girl....but I don't believe it was really him :-)
I think 'Gossip Girl' is Cheska from Made in Chelsea because she's a blog author and the whole cast of 'Chelsea' seem to be vying for attention and living the life attributed to the characters in Gossip Girl.
My family tell me I'm getting reality and fiction mixed upand confusing the two shows....but there's nothing 'real' about the reality shows I watch so I just tell them to be patient, because in a few years time the cast of one show will turn up in another and the plot lines will get so confused that my theory will actually seem quite reasonable :-)

Moltobene · 30/11/2013 18:17

Just clicked on the link and went to Netflix site to see how it all works- the GG programme writeup says it's all set in a boarding school. Hmm don't be put off! It really isn't.
I reckon Georgina Sparks has hacked into the Netflix site...

Has to be Dan Humphreys, i only started watching this a few months back when i stayed with my sister and i'm hooked and working my way through at weekends-hooked!

I love gossip girl, it is my guilty pleAsure, I watched 1-5 on Netflix (mainly while cooking) and was gutted I have had to wait a year for season 6 , have to say I watched the whole of season 6 in about a day and a half!

Season 6 is on Netflix now!

GoEasyPudding · 01/12/2013 10:30

I'm always ready to try a new TV show.

Gossip Girl is something I haven't seen before and I have Netflix so I have given the first episode of Season six a go this morning.

I thought that if I like it enough I will start at the beginning.

So far I really like the fashions. Really surprised to see such stylish stuff. I don't know who anyone is yet but I think the fashions are trying to communicate with me! "This lady is rich!" "This lady is up to no good!"
Looks like this show is the sort of thing to go in my watch alone and relax slot in the week. Other posters on this thread have mentioned Revenge, which is just the best fun ever, so if it's anything like that then I'll be happy.
I am always very keen to watch any drama where there is female lead character supported by a strong female ensemble cast. So right now I enjoy Suburgatory, and Two Broke Girls. In the past - Sex and the City, Revenge, Nurse Jackie, Enlightened. Of course there are some important male characters in each of these dramas but the producers have had the decency to provide us with very handsome chaps to look at. Naughty!

SaltySeaBird · 01/12/2013 21:21

Finally got round to watching episode 2 but it seems like people are mainly using this thread to enter the competition rather than watching and discussing the series!

I thought episode 2 was better than the first one but it did remind me how bad the series got. The first few seasons were great but the last few felt silly and the characters became caricatures of themselves.

I really dislike Sage as a character (like the name though). The story of Chuck chasing dirt on his father and Blair with her minions feels very old and overdone. It's a shame they continued the show really, season 6 shouldn't have been done as they lacked the story lines.

aristocat · 02/12/2013 11:22

I am always interested in finding a new TV series to watch. To be honest this is not my usual sort of programme but I am more than happy to give it a try.

I have seen Episode 1 and I cannot yet see how the characters are going to develop. Its all very flash and young at the moment Smile

Sadly there have been so many comments above telling us who is GossipGirl that I already know the big reveal, hope this doesn't spoil the show.

Anyway, I will be back when I have seen more!

babySophieRose · 02/12/2013 17:14

Don't have time to watch any tv series, we watch only Cbeebies. What about discussing where is Igle Pigle's blanket? :)

mindingalongtime · 02/12/2013 17:54

I thought Gossip Girl was a teen series, I know DD was hooked on them when she was at school and I remember buying the latest book each time it came out. was there something in them that I didn't know about....and maybe should have!

poppy1973 · 06/12/2013 07:08

I have been watching Gossip Girl Season 6 - I am a big fan, but didn't think that the Season 6 is as great at the other seasons.

Dan is definitely Gossip Girl, not sure if it is definitely as I am not totally through the Season 6 yet.

Chuck and Blair seem to be lacking the chemistry at the moment, just not sure what is going on with them at the moment ? Perhaps someone can fill me in on this ? Confused

LaVitaBellissima · 06/12/2013 14:27

I didn't like Sage either Salty I just love looking at all the gorgeous clothes! and love Lily and Rufu's apartment, and all the parties Smile

chumbelina · 06/12/2013 17:22

have to say that it is not my type of series, surely there are better out there to see and comment on together, although I know that we can't all like the same things, obviously! Happy Christmas to everyonexxx

sfancy · 06/12/2013 19:14

While I do love gossip girl I also like dark dramas like Dexter and breaking bad.

Binkybix · 07/12/2013 09:47

I must admit that I've just finished watching the whole lt from start to finish -BFing the little one. I had forgotten how much I loved this silly, silly show.

I think it was interesting that as time went on Blair became the main character and Serena just became an annoying, annoying whinger!

kissmeraas · 08/12/2013 08:16

Well, I've given the first series a good go so I could join in and Gossip Girl sounds to me like it might be a whiny, nasal Kirsten Bell ;-)

However, I find myself angry and irritable after wasting my limited free time trying to enjoy this tedious, soulless amateur drivel. Made In Chelsea has less wooden acting...

Honestly, I tried - and I've enjoyed plenty of drivel in my time! Give me a shout when you're watching something aimed at adults (or at least teenage mums with taste ;-)

3asAbird · 08/12/2013 09:38

how do i get kindle netflix ready.

RufousBartleby · 08/12/2013 13:39

I can understand why people aren't keen - but I love it! (though may not admit that to people I know in real life as I'm sure I'm far older than the target audience!) I've nearly watched the whole thing and I've found it great escapism, yes the plot lines have gaping holes and its all quite far fetched but I've enjoyed it for what it is and found some of the dialogue really quite witty. I've become totally invested in the central chuck/blair relationship, which is probably what has kept me watching through some of the crazier plot twists.

I started off watching it knowing that Dan was gossip girl and so I've been on the look out for times when that seemed implausible, and weirdly there have been more at the start of series 6, when surely the writers had made the decision, quite a few occasions where Dan looks at his phone and is 'shocked'. I'm nearly at the end now and although I think some of the season 6 episodes haven't been particularly well written on the whole I have had many happy hours of viewing.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/12/2013 20:27

Have to admit to watching the entire 6 series on Netflix while bfing DS. Got me through some tough nights.

Yes it's cheesy.

No it's not particularly original.

But somehow, it still draws you in, with its lovetohate'em characters like Blair and Chuck, and the intensely annoying Serena.

There aren't any surprises at the end. But personally, I loved it. Slightly ashamedly.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 08/12/2013 20:28

But as an addendum, this is a very strange choice for a Mumsnet watchalong - surely not really aiming at the main demographic, MNHQ...??

CheeseStrawWars · 10/12/2013 21:23

I was amused when Charlie Brooker did his "How TV Ruined Your Life: Love" episode and it featured a clip of Serena and Dan. (That programme is well worth watching.)

As for GG, I did like the Blair and Chuck plotline, despite myself. I didn't like the end of series 6, the big reveal felt retro-fitted and clunky.

shellwilkins · 11/12/2013 12:44

I've been meaning to watch gossip girl for ages :)

Binkybix · 12/12/2013 08:41

The Blair and Chuck thing did get tired - I don't think they should have out them together so early.

AliceMumsnet · 12/12/2013 09:36
