You may remember we approached you last month to come up with the name for a new Mumsnet TV club - and after much vigorous discussion, you came up with the frankly brilliant 'Watch with Mumsnet'.

Well, the day has dawned: we're delighted to announce that, in association with Netflix, "Watch with Mumsnet" is now officially in existence.

The way it'll work is that we'll watch a TV series together over the course of a few weeks, and have a thread running for the duration, on which you can discuss the plots, characters, twists and scandals with other goggle-eyed Mumsnetters. On top of this, Netflix are offering some amazing prizes if you join the discussion* ? this month you can win an iPad mini. Yes, really. You're welcome Grin.

The plan is that "Watch with Mumsnet" will introduce us all to some exclusive new shows this winter. The Christmas party season is yet to begin, after all, and it's too cold to go out anyway, so why not binge on some great telly on Netflix to get you through?

To kick off, we'll be watching Gossip Girl season 6, which is available to watch on Netflix now (along with seasons 1-5). So whether you're new to the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite or you only have season 6 to catch up on, please do watch and get involved.

So tell us, who do you think Gossip Girl is? And, more importantly, who is inviting all these Manhattan adolescents to such exclusive parties? These questions are just suggestions - feel free to discuss any aspect of GG or tell us what you like/dislike.

Remember, you can watch every episode of Gossip girl here through Netflix. Happy watching!

xoxo MNHQ

  • Only genuine contributions will be entered: By this we mean watch and join in the discusson about Gossip Girls, not just one liners to win the ipad Wink

This prize draw is now closed.

I re-watch season 1 of gossip girl just so I can see their innocence again. I know I know what they are doing is not wholesome in season 1 but they grew in the latest seasons and I want to see them young again and the only thing that worries them are parents, friends, and family life and love life not the more complicated things. BUT THE MOST AWESOME THING THAT I LOVE ABOUT GOSSIP GIRL is FASHION! Whether its season 1, 2 or 3 .. the bags, dresses, shoes and make up in there is fab!

jojane · 27/11/2013 18:36

I love gossip girl, it is my guilty pleAsure, I watched 1-5 on Netflix (mainly while cooking) and was gutted I have had to wait a year for season 6 , have to say I watched the whole of season 6 in about a day and a half!

tinypumpkin · 27/11/2013 19:56

I have to say that this is not my thing but I did watch it and have been educated in a different type of tv programme so not all bad! I do think that it is likely to be Dan Humphrey but that is slightly influenced by this thread also I think. It seems plausible.

I am not sure that this is something I would continue watching to be honest although for a bit of escapism from real life it might work. It's a million miles away from my daily life!

ridmat · 27/11/2013 22:32

Never seen Gossip Girl before. To be fair my teenage niece enjoys it, so maybe I should give it a go.
Now I just have to find some spare time to watch all six seasons. I guess I could "binge-watch" them.
I see above that lots of people are saying Dan Humphrey is Gossip Girl, so I googled him and he looks cute, but I have gone and spoilt the whole show now.

Kipsy · 28/11/2013 09:40

I have watched all 6 series already Blush - my guilty pleasure. But I am happy to watch series 6 again. I am Shock that Mumsnet would choose this for 'Watch with...', but also secretly glad it isn't some hard-hitting/violent/drug-related series.

I in fact watched the series-es (?) back-to-back when my DD was sick and I needed to stay up all night to check on her.

I liked Blair a lot - the actress playing her is beautiful.

Kipsy · 28/11/2013 09:41

Oops, forgot to add the most critical thing - GG is Dan Humphreys!

PhilB50 · 28/11/2013 12:53

Dan Humphrey

Kangakate · 28/11/2013 18:53

Dan Humphreys not to sure about the parties maybe Blair

8mhigh · 29/11/2013 02:02

ButThereAgain is right.

Online trashing of a programme is a great way for a lowbrow programme to become a hit. Look at ITV's belly-flop disaster diving show 'Splash'. People enjoyed ripping it so much, they persuaded millions to try it who would never have given it houseroom.

A bit the same with this thread and Gossip Girl. Not my demographic or even continent of interest, but I tried one and was won over by the wit and the likeably flawed (but physically perfect) characters.

kateandme · 29/11/2013 04:00

if u let yourself go its a lighthearted escapeism.it may not win awards for realism and plot wholes may be all around but its a good bit of tv.guilty pleasure i think most would call it.
and it can be very funny.chuck mostly.
take it for what it is and have a bit of fun.i liked it

AuFredon · 29/11/2013 11:08

Dan Humphreys

tinam1 · 29/11/2013 16:07

I'm thinking it's gonna be none of the main characters as gossip girl has pretty much damaged everyones life at one point. Maybe an outsider like evil georgina x

julesh123 · 29/11/2013 20:51

Dan Humphrey - his sensitivity shines through!!

PatriciaHolm · 29/11/2013 21:43

Gossip Girl may be fluff but it must be popular fluff to have got to six seasons!

Anyway; I thought his identity was fairly well telegraphed, but it's possible I read something that gave it away! I haven't watched all seasons though - should i go back to 1 and start from scratch?

diammondgirlz2013 · 30/11/2013 00:10

I think it's the lonely boy Dan Humphry as he's not known and if wasn't for him being gossip girl he'd never come to light but this is perfect way for him to get noticed, So there for Gossip Girl isn't really a person at all but a illusion a way to get on the inside without being nervous and shy after all everyone wants to be in EUS right? ( or at least be liked)
Regarding the parties I 'think' it may be blair after all she once was popular and well liked but suddenly the limelight has gone and she believes she is better than everyone else and throwing huge parties are way to get the title back right?
Or maybe it's Nick as he see's himself as a 'playboy' and hi only goal in life is getting off with as many women as he can, So there's two possiblities really of whom it could be.
My opinions is I found Gossip Girl to be about personal empowerment, awareness that we all make mistakes and finding your true self.

chezvic · 30/11/2013 00:16

I reckon Gossip Girl is someone we've not even been introduced to yet. It could be someone's Gran, they do like a gossip more than anyone else. And as for who's inviting to the parties? I think it could be some little girl somewhere who's got hold of her mums FB page and is making these parties go viral!

worriedmum46 · 30/11/2013 00:40

We think it's Dan Humphrey. I watch this as proud owner of teenage girl!! Blair and Serena have hosted some great parties. Daughter very envious of the lifestyle as her life so normal and 'boring' by comparison.

HelenSw4les · 30/11/2013 00:40

I've never heard of Gossip Girl; I hope that doesn't mean my entry won't count.

sweir1 · 30/11/2013 06:29

I think Gossip Girl is a boy,

clauski · 30/11/2013 07:55

This brought back memories of Beverley Hills 90210 for me. Quite enjoyable if you forget you're watching a "teen drama"! Can anyone else think of another series this is like?

VickyRsuperstar · 30/11/2013 09:47

Dan Humphreys! Not my thing really, but I end up watching all sorts of strange things with my kids!

Moltobene · 30/11/2013 12:09

I can totally see why this show was chosen for Netflix for its first outing. Starting at Season six though? Noooo. Start with the pilot!

GG is how I first ever heard of Netflix - way back when Dan and Blair are together. Dorota teases Blair about all the highbrow documentaries in her Netflix queue. Blair and Dan would watch them together as a night in between going out to subtitled art house movies. It was one of the cute things they did together that made their relationship seem plausible. It's otherwise impossible to imagine how anyone could ever measure up to Chuck, but Dan shared Blair's interests in a way Chuck didn't.

GG is one of my all-time favourite serials. Not quite a guilty pleasure- it's not trash- or at least the first two series weren't. The quality of the writing took a dive in later series but it's always a fun watch. Previous poster right to point out you can track how social media use changes over time through the show. And it had an influence on street fashion helping the preppy headband thing and the statement necklace come back. The music for the shows is one of the main things I loved- they used new stuff and old but it always added to the scene. (Think of the Blair-Chuck kiss when he returns from 'running away'- xoxo!)

I am nowhere near the teenage demographic it's aimed at- but the writing and cultural references are as much for 30 and 40 year olds, which is the age of the main writers/producers. The ep where we go into Lily and Carol's past in the 80s is amazing- it's like the pilot for the best spin off show that never was.

So as everyone else has already said in spoiler fashion GG is Dan. However.. Feels like a hastily put together plot point to conclude the show once the writers knew it wasn't going to be renewed. Bigger GG geeks than me have pointed out why it's couldn't ever be him so it definitely was not intended all along that way. Would've been way cooler never to have revealed him/her at all.

Dessallara · 30/11/2013 12:13

I started to watch it not very long time ago on Netflix. From beginning! :) So not sure yet.

Marg2k8 · 30/11/2013 12:50
