The folks at Asda would like to know how you accessorise and personalise the different rooms in your home.

Here's what Asda have to say, "We've recently launched our Autumn / Winter Home catalogue in store and online at Asda Direct, full of inspiration for your home at affordable prices. With more than 1000 stylish solutions for your home, we're interested to find out how you accessorise and personalise your home"

So how do you refresh the rooms in your home? Do you add cushions and candles or replace furniture and repaint? Does each room have a particular colour scheme or do you prefer the white, minimalist look? Do you re-arrange or re-accessorise the rooms in your home often, or have they looked the same for the past few years? Is there a particular room youre especially proud of?

Please also take a look at Asda's Autumn / Winter Home Collection and let us know if theres anything that inspires you to get creative in your home

Whatever you do to personalise and accessorise your rooms, we'd love to hear about it.

Everyone who adds their thoughts and ideas will be added into a prize draw to win a £200 Asda Direct voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I'm currently wall papering old furniture. It's only costing the price of pva glue because I got the furniture (chest of drawers) free, but it's hideous. So I got some free samples of wall paper and am covering it with different types. Doing the same with the kitchen cupboards to brighten it up as it will be about a million years before I can afford a new one.

I have the most limited of budgets but want the house to look nice and to have unique pieces of furniture, so for now at least it is a very cheap way of personalising the space

We accessorise with photos, bright cushions and art work. I'd love to have bowls and candles everywhere but with under 3's in the house it's not practical. I love wall paper as I can really brighten up a room and rugs are great too.

I also rearrange furniture regularly much to dh's annoyance. But tend to leave it once I've found the perfect combination!

My big plan for the summer was to repaint the grubby bits of the walls and sew cushions for the lounge. Needless to say that is now my big plan for the next school holiday! We don't have many ornaments but we do have quite a few pictures - by friends or by the kids.

And I must do something about the lack of lightshades on the stairs and in the hallway. Still, we have only lived in our house 2 years.

I think I'm almost most proud of the room we are working on (currently bathroom) as it has yet to take shape and so remains perfect in my imagination. Unfortunately, once it is in use - accessories or not - it never quite maintains its shine.

We have a lot of photos both of people and more arty shots as one of DH's hobbies is photography. I like to do crafty things do we have cushions I've made or embroidered or blankets/throws I've knitted. I'm most proud of a really ugly pine chest of drawers I painted white and then applied decorative paper to the drawer fronts so it looks funky.

The walls etc are white and our furniture is quite minimalist but that suits me so we can change accessories around quite easily to completely change the room. For example we have summer and winter curtains and it totally revamps the room.

We've always moved often so I've become quite adept at making somewhere look personal and welcoming without making major changes and our furniture is very neutral so it goes in any style house, or can go in more than one room.

We go for neutral colours on the walls so that things like pictures and photos can be displayed nicely. If we were to refresh the look of a room, we'd either change the colour schemes or get some new accessories such as cushions, throws etc.

Using personal pictures to turn in to Canvasses for the walls. Bright colours and stickers in the children's bedrooms to make them a fun room that they want to play in. Funky, practical and bright storage for toys in their bedrooms too. In the rest of the house I like co-ordinating colour schemes and adding quirky/vintage accessories such as mirrors or throws.
I like to re-use old furniture; I have just turned a nest of tables I inherited from scratched boring brown wood into a shabby chic set using classic cream paint and lavender stencilling. I also used an old circular ply board table in DDs room by painting colours to match the walls.

I wouldn't say i'm a minimalist exactly but i've definitely done s lot of decluttering in the last few years. Our house was newly renovated when we moved in and we've not changed a thing. We'll likely be moving soon though and may have to do some redecorating then. I don't have much natural style though so am pretty nervous about it! I like colour themes in a room and modern, clean looking finushes.

I like to keep things pretty plan, furniture / walls / floors etc and then I use colour / accessories to freshen things up.

Throws / art on the walls / flowers and even things like curtains and cushions can completely change the look / feel of a room.

I hate nic-nacs, I would rather BIG statement pieces - eg - massive painting rather than 10 smaller pictures.

I do for the cheap and cheerful Ikea type look for DDs bedroom and the guest room as I like to change them about a lot.

Another fan of throws here and rugs to tie a colour or theme in. Also quite cheap to change when looking tired.

All if our rooms are painted in neutral colours, this means that we can accessorise the room with coloured throws, cushions, curtains, ornaments etc. These items are cheap to replace and a lot easier than repainting it buying new furniture so we can change the look of a room quickly when we get bored.

I like to have kids artwork up wherever I can and we have a few pieces of art that have meaning to us rather than mass produced pieces. We moved into our first (bought not rented) home this year and we are trying to do each room with a colour theme but it's taking a long time as we have toddlers and full time jobs! I do have a comfy cushion pile in the corner of the living room which I will add to when we have the spare money. Most of our furniture is a jumble of family heirlooms, second hand shop/ebay and a few ikea bits. I dream of a properly coordinated set one day!

I like to change things like cushions, pictures, candles and throws etc every year or two. In reality I pick stuff up on a much more regular basis.
I especially love my sitting room, as it's a cosy room. I've decorated it in plum and cream shades with lots of different tactile accessories. It makes people want to put their feet up and relax, which I love! Smile

I change the artwork every now and then, it's amazing how some different canvases can make such a difference to the look of a room

I have a 1920s house with quite big rooms. I like to decorate and accessorize my house in a way thats in keeping with the style of the house.I don have anything especially modern, I have pale carpets and wood floors and rich colours in my living and dining rooms. I like to have throws and cushions to make the rooms look comfortable and they are easier to update when you fancy a new look.

My dining room has a lot of books on shelves, and a couple of lamps. We aslo have a sofa bed in there for guests and I like to sit in here and chill and read

I don't refresh very often at all. I tend to buy quality items that are traditional and last. We have William Morris wallpaper that has been on the walls now for 15 plus years, I recently had the (coordinating) curtains made into a Roman Blind because they were also William Morris and the fabric is beautiful but we wanted a change. Just bought new (second hand beautiful leather sofas from eBay) and the cushions are Laura Ashley (bought 20 plus years ago), I have lots of family photos framed, and antique second hand mirror (donated) above the fire place. A new solid oak heavy coffee table (a gift from my parents) and second hand lamps and shades. I have some bits and bobs i.e. fairy lights around the mirror, candles, ornaments etc... that were given as gifts by friends and family over the years!
The bedrooms are the same - I have gone for traditional Sanderson prints and coordinating fabric because it lasts and lasts. I am not someone who needs to change/update all the time.
We are always on a budget so when we 'did' the house (which was a wreck and we gutted) from scratch (before the children) we focussed on one room at a time and mainly purchased in the sales, second hand and accepted items, that friends/family were throwing out!
Still on a budget which is why we can't afford to change anything. But actually I like it all still and so that is fine!!

I've done up one room all flowery but I know it's going to look dated in the next few year do will redo it more neutral. Generally I keep to a neutral palette and accessorise. That means it's cheaper as you can just switch things round. Flowering plants ate the cheapest accessory. I love asda and often get 86p orchids there!

ASDA is our absolute fave place to help us update the house without having to recdecorate or spend a fortune. We have in the past been able to add colour to the bathroom with new towels from ASDA, cushions in the living rooms and new bedding for the bedrooms.

Additional props can then be added like new soap dispensers and little props for the kitchen - all at low cost from ASDA. It can make the place look totally transformed.

I've just looked at the ASDA site and even curtains are reasonably priced in new styles and that would transform a room!

LOVE the Tulsa drum coffee table too. It is great that so much furniture is available from ASDA now.

I think some items really do stand the test of time - I bought some framed prints from ASDA well over a decade ago and despite extending and updating our house in the meantime - they really fit the new look well.

OK I will do anything for a voucher. Our lounge is well overdue for freshening up.

I think like most people we work with the furniture we have and try to freshen up with colours. I love interesting colours and textiles like rugs and cushions and posh paint - even the poshest paint is cheaper than wallpaper. I like real wood and we have a lot of it. I could not have an all-white or all-neutral colour scheme! I tend to make curtains and blinds. It does take me ages to choose lighting - I have currently some fabric lampshades from our local Asda as a stop gap.

I do love original art and we have managed to blag pieces off some artist friends, that gives a really unique touch.

Looking at the Asda range, I don't think I'd buy large things like sofas without being able to try them out, but I like the chunky little side tables and the throws and cushions.

I would love to replace the harsh overhead spots in my lounge/dining room with a fabulous statement piece like a mini chandelier but get vetoed over being too girly. I am planning to redecorate using some colour and replace the hideous curtains to match the strategically bought cushions once DH gets used to the colour I've introduced.

I'm also looking forward to updating the bedroom with new bed linen to give it a fresh feel.

We have a scatter back sofa so when we refresh the decor I buy new cushions for it, we have a couple of sets not that we use in rotation. Smile

Cushions to go with the old, colourful rugs.

I like to change rooms for each season, for Autumn I have added a thick cosy throw to the couch for snuggling up with. In the dining room I plan to change the centrepiece on the table to something more seasonal such as pinecones, cranberries etc.
Candles in the fireplace look great and less mess!

So how do you refresh the rooms in your home? Do you add cushions and candles or replace furniture and repaint?

At the moment we have just moved house so we are adding new furniture. Doesn't need much repainting. Then we will add tablecloth/runners/candles etc when we have got the furniture.

Does each room have a particular colour scheme or do you prefer the white, minimalist look?

Every room has a scheme - just about. Most of the accessories are black oddly!

Do you re-arrange or re-accessorise the rooms in your home often, or have they looked the same for the past few years?

No, as we have just moved but we have ended up just repainting/arranging every few years or so, money dependent.

Is there a particular room youre especially proud of?

Yes, the dining room. Was a shoes dumping ground, now a place you can actually eat something!

im a bit of a car boot sale person and charity shops, i really ejoy picking up bits and pieces and putting my own stamp on them, some things work and some dont, i like your retro reclaimed look as its the sort of thing that i do at home, things dont all have to match, i hate sterile cold cliical looks as i dont feel relaxed sitting in them, spaces need to be warm and inviting to others, i like lots of soft lighting not big bright lights, a mixture of patterns, tartan, wool and tactile fabrics, and not cool tones as they make me feel cold!, i love wood but not highly polished, i have picked up a few brilliant things from charity shops and just sanded them down and they look brill, i think im a bit fed up with all these words like love, family peace etc all over the place id rather put up some real old photographs which you can pick up for next to nothing they are far more interesting to look at, but retro is for me and everyone should get creative and i love the cosiness to your retro range it feels like home
