As part of Estée Lauder's Drops of Advice campaign, they've asked us to find out about the best pearls of beauty wisdom you've ever received - what were they and who were they from? What wonders has the advice done for your skin/hair/nails/whatever?! If you had to give a younger version of yourself some beauty advice, what would it be? It could be something like 'get more sleep'(!) or something more elaborate involving slapping the contents of your kitchen cupboard on your face in a homemade face pack?! Either way, please do share!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win 1 of 15 bottles of Advanced Night Repair (30ml, RRP £41). That's a lot of prizes up for grabs! Please note that you have to be aged 18+ years to take part in the prize draw.

Mumsnet is promoting this sponsored discussion thread on behalf of Estée Lauder. The thread will be open until Friday 27th April, when we will close it, do the prize draw and notify the winners on that day. The winners' details will then be sent to Estée Lauder so the prizes can be sent out. Please only add your comments if you're happy for us to pass on your details to Estée Lauder in the event that you win the prize draw. We will only pass on the prize winners' details, and these will only be used for the purposes of sending out the prizes.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

PS If you don't win this one then the folks at Estée Lauder are also running a 'Drops of Advice' competition on //www.esteelauder.co.uk/dropsofadvice/index.tmpl where you have an additional chance to win a product and a night in a 5* hotel for two. For more information please visit //www.esteelauder.co.uk. Terms apply. Closing date 29/12/2012.

The oil cleansing method! I was told to do that instead of paying for overpriced, overpackaged lotions (sorry, Estee Lauder Wink) and it works a treat.

I once worked for Estee Lauder, as it happens...

my mum told me never to pluck the upper brow line, and never over-pluck in general. My 3 grown daughters have thanked me in turn!

Spend money on a good SPF moisturiser it won't cost nearly as much as the Botox you're going to need to fix the wrinkles!

Use your moisturizer on your hands as often as you use it on your face.

This, from my grandmother. I didn't follow it and my hands tell you my age with no equivocation whatsoever!

If you are foolish enough in your youth to accept a cigarette - JUST DON'T LIGHT IT. Nothing ages skin more than smoking.

The best advice I ever had was moisturise from the inside, ie eat oily fish & natural oils every day & drink lots of water. I read this years ago in an article about why Japanese women look so young. I followed this advice & now at 44 most people presume I'm in my mid 30s & when I tell them I have a 20 year old son they look shocked!! I wish I could tell my 18 year old self how hot I looked & to enjoy it!! Grin

Smile!

Use a hot flannel to remove cleanser. It helps to exfoliate the skin and the moisturiser seems to sink in better.

If you don't need make up don't use it. Pick a moisturiser that feels and smells nice because they all do pretty much the same thing.
Get a job working outdoors but wear a bit of sunblock!

Drink loads of water and always protect your skin with an SPF.

Doublewear is the only foundation that matches my skintone properly whilst giving full coverage of the dreaded dark circles....

Amazingly, nobody even realises I'm wearing makeup most of the time and think I just have fantastic skin!

for as long as I can remember, since teenage,I have always massaged my neck upwards with moisturiser - I'm 53 now and am happy to say that it's not crepey or saggy - my top tip !

Spend on foundations, concealer, mascara and face powder. Once your base is good you can make cheaper, blushers, eyeshadows and lipglosses go further and look better.

Don't pick your spots and still moisturise- having oily skin isn't that bad as you age slower! Moisturise daily and use SPF. Go for quality not quantity in makeup and take advice. A trip to a make up counter 3 times a year will cost less than weekly treats and you look a lot better for it.

Love your pale skin

If you are like me awful at self tan then give up and get a spray tan.

From the wonderful women in my life, my Mum, Nanna and best friend. Eat as well as you can, sleep as much as you can and drink lots of water. Always cleanse, tone and moisturise not just your face but your neck and upper chest as well. You will need different facial products depending on the season, always have 2 different cleansers/moisterisers, one for dry and another for combination skin, your skin will never have the same issues all year round. Invest in some luxury products like eye cream and facial serum to get the 'spa' feeling every day. Use light olive oil all over your body just before leaving the shower for glowing skin. Use an egg all over your hair before you wash with shampoo/conditioner for super soft and shiny hair. A great exfoliator can be made in seconds for pence with sugar and honey. Use a facial product with SPF all your round. Love yourself and surround yourself with people that add value and love to your life.

I always use a night cream on my face, neck and hands before bed as recommended by my gran and I get lots of great comments on my skin.

I heard that your personality reflects in your face, and that as you age your wrinkles will tell the world whether you have been smiling or frowning through life. I have smile lines which makes me happy Smile and I'm trying to grow old (dis)gracefully Grin

Moisturise the skin around your eyes gently ? using your little fingers ? from the inner corners out. (My grandma told me this when I was in my teens.)

Mean to add?

Dab tea tree oil on spots, then leave well alone. (A tip from a friend.)
