As part of Estée Lauder's Drops of Advice campaign, they've asked us to find out about the best pearls of beauty wisdom you've ever received - what were they and who were they from? What wonders has the advice done for your skin/hair/nails/whatever?! If you had to give a younger version of yourself some beauty advice, what would it be? It could be something like 'get more sleep'(!) or something more elaborate involving slapping the contents of your kitchen cupboard on your face in a homemade face pack?! Either way, please do share!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win 1 of 15 bottles of Advanced Night Repair (30ml, RRP £41). That's a lot of prizes up for grabs! Please note that you have to be aged 18+ years to take part in the prize draw.

Mumsnet is promoting this sponsored discussion thread on behalf of Estée Lauder. The thread will be open until Friday 27th April, when we will close it, do the prize draw and notify the winners on that day. The winners' details will then be sent to Estée Lauder so the prizes can be sent out. Please only add your comments if you're happy for us to pass on your details to Estée Lauder in the event that you win the prize draw. We will only pass on the prize winners' details, and these will only be used for the purposes of sending out the prizes.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

PS If you don't win this one then the folks at Estée Lauder are also running a 'Drops of Advice' competition on //www.esteelauder.co.uk/dropsofadvice/index.tmpl where you have an additional chance to win a product and a night in a 5* hotel for two. For more information please visit //www.esteelauder.co.uk. Terms apply. Closing date 29/12/2012.

The best piece of advice I was told (via the medium of a QVC TSV with Liz Earle Grin) is when you apply hand cream to put the cream on the back of your hands first and rub the back of your hands together and then rub the rest over the rest of your hands. This is because the skin on the back of your hands is thinner and therefore ages quicker than the palms where you naturally go to put it on first. I tell EVERYONE this!

dont buy ill fitting shoes - and always polish your shoes.

Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins.

Moisturise every day. My great aunt told me this when I was only little and it has stuck with me.

Don't use baby wipes to remove make-up, they're for bums not faces!

The ONLY thing that will really get rid of fine lines and wrinkles is a cream containing Retinol. As the majority of over the counter face creams only contain about 10% then they have little or no effect.
This was told to me by a reputable plastic surgeon in London. Since then I have never spent more than a fiver on a face cream....pointless.

Drink water and take your viaTamins. Anything you put into your bidy is worth ten times what you put on it. :)

Stay out of the sun. That liver-spotted look is fine for spaniels but so, so hideous on grown women .

Get someone with decent diction to voice their ads, the latest woman appears to be saying stuff about "a stale order" ...not quite the image they want to bring to mind!

Apply excess moisturiser to your elbows instead of wiping it on a tissue. It will keep your elbows soft too!

Drink water, lot's of water. Wear sunblock on the face. Don't just clean the enamel of your teeth but brush the gums and gum line too.

And get enough sleep.

These are wise words indeed. If only I had heard them in my teens/twenties. But I probably did, and just chose to ignore...

The single best facial I have ever had was, give or take, 16p. Asprin. Kicks Vaishaly's ass. That, and an older husband. So you are always (relatively) young.

Use an oil/serum under nighttime moisturiser. This way both the oil & moisturiser will sink into the skin & be properly absorbed & utilised by the skin...

Yep. Cleanse tone and moisturise every morning. Get enough sleep. Don't smoke. Eat healthily. All from my Mum.

Eat a jelly cube every day for healthy strong nails. I think my Mum told me that one as well.

One teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of cooking salt, poured into the palm of your hand. Rub hands together thoroughly and rinse off with water. Gets rid of rough skin and leaves hands lovely and soft.
