NOW CLOSED: Tell us who's the messiest in your house (honest, now!) £100 IKEA vouchers up for grabs!

Hello. We been asked by IKEA to find out who you reckon is the messiest person in your house.

Do you agree with comedian Tiffany Stevenson, who says, in the new IKEA ad, that "the only thing a man will ever clear out is his internet history"?

Or do you wince with Blush recognition at Paul Pirie's umbraged-male retort: "Shoes, shoes, shoes! What are you, a centipede?"

Please post on this thread to tell us who's the 'floordrobe'-owner in your house - the more scruffy, cluttery, bomb-gone-off detail, the better! Everyone who does will be in with a chance to win £100 in IKEA vouchers.

Oh, and IKEA is running a Facebook poll, too, if you fancy casting your vote.

Thanks - and good luck! MNHQ

My children - they don't believe that you can play with just one toy at a time and feel that every single part of every single toy should be scattered over the floor - not so bad when they were older but not it involves Lego it's a nightmare! And as I'm so OCD about these things I have to sort everything before it goes away so I know where the pieces are so it takes forever even if I do get help!

TwinMummy30 · 02/04/2011 10:11

my husband! clothes go on the floor as it's really hard to hang them, plates can stay on the table till morning and hundreds of cups in every corner of the house :)

MissPoppins · 02/04/2011 10:13

It has to be me who is the messiest in the house im afraid! OH is sooooo tidy which just highlights how untidy i am. Even the children are better than me at tidying up

DramaInPyjamas · 02/04/2011 10:14

There are two males and two females in our home.. And us girls are by far the untidiest.

nicolefrenzy · 02/04/2011 11:01

Has to be my partner he makes way more mess than the children do.He leaves his tools all over my kitchen bench. He leaves his dirty clothes all over the bedroom floor. And he is the first person to complain when the house is a mess cheeky or what

gorionine · 02/04/2011 11:07

I would say me because I love cooking but am a very messy cook. When I cook DH call it "B52 at work". There is not one kitchen surface (floor included) that is speared by my enthousiasm!Grin

Next culprits are DD1 and DS2 who have serious wardrobe tidying issues! I f I need to find clothes I know that I will have to look under their beds or in a toy basket to find it because their wardrobes usually are empty!

EllAEllO · 02/04/2011 11:29

My 12 year old daughter.

It's really quite vile in her room. Unfortunately not shoe or clothes mess, which I could cope with.
Bowls, glasses and spoons make themselves at home in there to grow stuff on.
She will use a bin-but when it's full, she'll carry on using it until the rubbish starts walking out of the room by itself....

DS (4) is the tidiest. He likes everything lined up, and tidy - not that it was asked, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone thought we all lived like Kim and Aggie stars in my house Wink

lisi10 · 02/04/2011 11:35

I'd say my partner is the messiest person in our house. It doesn't matter how many times i tell him, his clothes are always by the side of the bed instead of the washing basket which is just a few feet away! it's so annoying.

TotorosOcarina · 02/04/2011 11:49

Me.

DH is constantly tidying up after me Blush

If i get undressed everything goes on the floor and if it gets picked up then its by him.

He does all the washing too.

I am super-slattern Blush

notnowbernard · 02/04/2011 11:50

DP, without a doubt

The dds are bloody messy but DD1 is getting there - slowly - and I'll let DD2 off as she's only 4 and can yet be trained Grin

DP does not put clothes away (I stuff them under the bed - refuse to pick up after him of course. But out of sight is out of mind for me at least)

He leaves his shoes all over the place

Mountains of paperwork left on surfaces

Has an in-built inability to put things like marge, spreads etc back in the fridge

It all seems rather petty written down Blush

But as I say to him - when he wonders why his "nice" jumper is under the bed - I am his lover, not his Mother

feefeegabor · 02/04/2011 11:51

I used to think it was my husband but my 9 year old has taken over. Her bedroom looks like a tornado has burst through it and she has this horrible habit of taking off her pants with her trousers - yuck!

3isthemagicnumber · 02/04/2011 12:20

me-but as I am the only one that seems to do any of the clearing up ,that is allowed I feel Grin

pa2539 · 02/04/2011 12:26

It's got to be my little girl followed closely by my husband

BonzoDooDah · 02/04/2011 12:34

It's me! Ashamed to be a scruff and constantly trying not to be but there always seems to be something better to do.
Plus we are hoarders and don't have a place for everything so things sit waiting to be put ..... somewhere ....
I re-found my book "how to dejunk your life" under a pile yesterday - says it all really Hmm

Mirage · 02/04/2011 12:49

The dds,who seem to enjoy taking clothes out of the wardrobe and just leaving them all over the floor. My most hated job is putting away clothes and I'm the only person in this house who seems capable of doing it[DH,I'm looking at you] .I am untidy though,I just have too many hobbies I like doing which seem conducive to mess making. But at least when I tidy up I actually put things away where they belong.DH 's idea of tidying is to pile everything into huge towers on the dining table and ignore it.

missmakesstuff · 02/04/2011 12:55

Well, DD takes the cats food out of the bowl and chucks it all over the floor, throws her toys everywhere after up-ending the toy basket, takes all the fridge magnets off the fridge and leaves them all over the floor, takes the bottles out of the bottle rack and drops them on the floor, throws food out of her highchair every mealtime and just generally leaves a trail of destruction wherever she goes. She's 1.

However, Dh is still the messiest. Hes 37.

VerintheWhite · 02/04/2011 13:06

O dear. I'm sorry to say we are all messy, and we all seem able to avoid spotting the mess and move amongst it with ease. Doesnt bode well for the teenage years does it!

GabbyLoggon · 02/04/2011 13:16

Mrs G would say I am the messy one, It seems to get worse as I get older.

asuwere · 02/04/2011 13:18

DC do create a lot of mess but they at least tidy when told (or at least try-they are still little) I'm not overly tidy but I do try. I am guilty of a few messy cupboards but I feel that's ok as I keep the doors closed so no-one sees in there - and of course, I know where everything is in there!! :)

DH has to be the messiest though. We've been married for 6 years and I've asked him at least once a week (very politely of course) for that whole time if he could put his used cotton buds in the bin!! Still, he leaves them all over... It's disgusting! His side of the bedroom has clothes on the floor, under the bed, cups/glasses with dregs of tea/milk in the bottom... None of the rest of us go round that side! I haven't opened his wardrobe door for several months so I have no idea what that is like...

He has a habit of finding something important and rather than putting it away, he just puts it on a shelf - I have to then clear this out every week or so and put it all away.

Drives me mad - just hope DC don't end up like him when they're teenagers or I'll go mad having 4 of them like it! [shudders at thought]

purepurple · 02/04/2011 13:28

DD (14) is by far the messiest person I have ever met.
Within minutes of her room being tidied it reverts back to its natural post-apocalypse state.
It reminds me of those documentaries about old people who never throw anything away and have to climb in through the kitchen window because they can't open the front door. That will be DD whan I am now longer around to tidy up.
Examples- she ran out of underwear because she never puts any dirty washing in the wash. When I tidied her room I filled 2 black bin liners with washing that took me all week to wash.
I had to wash all the clean clothes in her drawers too as they were covered in chocolate and popcorn.
There were several cups that had penicillin growing in them and a enough cutlery/plates etc to open her own tea shop.
The really worst thing is the pile of rabbit droppings I have just seen in the corner of her room. She has gone to a friend's for a sleepover but they will still be there when she gets back, as I'm not clearing up that.

nokissymum · 02/04/2011 13:32

My husband! he comes in from the gym takes his sweaty gym clothes of and hangs them up on the wardrobe door, the odour is horrendous.
Wet towels are left on the bed to dry on the duvet of course! gym socks are tucked back inside trainers, and thats just the clothes!

MaMattoo · 02/04/2011 13:55

DH by far is the messiest person I have come across. I have an amazingly messy brother and sister, but this man beats every one hands down. He actually throws his rolled up clothes, basketball style, into the top shelf of his cupboard. The floor is a cupboard too and he likes leaving puddles of clothes around. His dream room consists on hooks around the whole room, so he can just hand everything. The door of his room has a hook..and that was a bad idea, the door never ever opens completely, due to the large number of clothes piled up one on the other on the door hook. Shoes store dirty socks, towels dry on the bathroom floor. underwear is football and needs to be flicked around and aimed sometimes at the laundry basket. I can never fold his trousers/ jeans for fear of what all might come out and roll around on the floor and under the sofas/ beds where only our little baby can and will reach it (to eat it ofcourse). I have never seen a toothpaste cover screwed back on. I have also never seen the post shave hair being removed from the basin. Oh I can go on and on..I love though, quite a lot. Wish I could have words with his mummy about him though!

OracleInaCoracle · 02/04/2011 14:07

I am shockingly messy. I will leave clothes everywhere and get upset if dh touches a pair of shoes. BUT I am clean. dh isnt, he will leave his football kit in his bag, but put his bag away into the cupboard

Helen891 · 02/04/2011 14:14

My OH definitely, he never puts anything back after using it and when cooking, OMG, he has unused pots and pans all over the kitchen. At least with children you can teach them to put away their things, I've given up hope with OH

Mumbybumby · 02/04/2011 14:21

It definitely must be my 7 week old son.

The house was tidy until he came along! :)

He can't walk, he can't crawl, he can't even sit
But for the last seven weeks the place is a tip!

Cups, plates, toys . . .
They must be the boy's . . .

Ok, it's me!
I'm far too busy
Having fun
With my son
To get the tidying done!

Grin
