Hello. We been asked by IKEA to find out who you reckon is the messiest person in your house.

Do you agree with comedian Tiffany Stevenson, who says, in the new IKEA ad, that "the only thing a man will ever clear out is his internet history"?

Or do you wince with Blush recognition at Paul Pirie's umbraged-male retort: "Shoes, shoes, shoes! What are you, a centipede?"

Please post on this thread to tell us who's the 'floordrobe'-owner in your house - the more scruffy, cluttery, bomb-gone-off detail, the better! Everyone who does will be in with a chance to win £100 in IKEA vouchers.

Oh, and IKEA is running a Facebook poll, too, if you fancy casting your vote.

Thanks - and good luck! MNHQ

My DS aged 4.5. He leaves a stream of tat behind him. He will empty seven drawers of toys at once, only to play with the one thing that lives permenantly on the sofa. He'll eat an ice lolly and put the stick in random places. He, being a boy, pees on the floor. His bed is messy even when its made, and no wonder he's hungry the amount of food that misses his mouth and winds up on the floor!

But I love him. Even if he is going to turn into a messier, stinkier teenager one day.

mellychops · 02/04/2011 00:40

The hubby!!!!!! I swear he tests my patience all the time. Mouldy coffee cups hidden in his bedside cabinet. Used disposable razors all over the bathroom and don't even go there if he tries to cook. He uses every saucepan plate etc that he can find!!!! Oh and who ends up washing it all up yup mugens here!!!!

lewlil · 02/04/2011 00:46

This has to be me, better half always tidying up behind me.

madhattershouse · 02/04/2011 00:46

My eldest son..he's just turned 11. The other day I found a half eaten scotch egg..2 whole boiled eggs ( presumably from scotch eggs), 12 plastic bottles from drinks, 7 crisp packets and......1 pair of boxers! The main problem is that they were all accumulated in about 2 weeks....this means he did not change his undies..and I am yet to find the socks...

PenguinArmy · 02/04/2011 00:54

ME although 12 month DD is doing her best to catch me up.

DH is very 'stepford wife' when he tuts and comments about picking stuff up from the floor

isladavidson · 02/04/2011 01:28

My DH but I'm getting worse

tigerdriverII · 02/04/2011 01:36

Totally me. I am a slattern of the highest order married to the chief fusspot of the fusspot clan. However I am very cheered up by tales on here which make me look positively tidy!

has to be my husband, he always leaves the kitchen in a mess when he cooks!

LowRegNumber · 02/04/2011 07:21

ME Blush

Although, in my defence, I do not have an OH here to compete with!

The fact that I have some kind of mutant teen who was given the "tidy gene" injection behind my back and possibly the only young boy who likes his room tidy just adds insult to injury IMO!

Somehow the cat seems to more than make up for both of them though Hmm

SilveryMoon · 02/04/2011 07:38

I am the messy one here. But I am messy in an organised way. My excuse is that I am tidying and finding new homes for things in a more logical place, but whilst I do that, everything we own has to live on the wardrobe floor! You should see it, it's awful!
Then I have a massive stack of paperwork (paid bills and whatnot) on a table in the bedroom. It has been there forever. Dp keeps asking me if I'm ever going to sort it out, so I have told him I am trying to decide how best to file it.

sockmonkey · 02/04/2011 08:25

ME! However a "Floordrobe" does prevent wear & tear on the carpet ;)

boohoohoo · 02/04/2011 08:32

My teenager daughter and my teenage stepson!!!!! Piles of cans, crisp packets, sweet wrappers mixed in with dirty underwear, clothes, magazines and their schoolwork litters their bedroom floors. All topped of with wet towels!!!! Their idea of tidying means forcing it all under the beds until the beds are swaying like see-saws on top!!!! Both lovely children really though!!

hoopie1979 · 02/04/2011 08:34

i have to say that i am the messiest (apart from my children) my husband has always been tidy

happybubblebrain · 02/04/2011 08:41

My 4 year old daughter. In under 2 minutes she can create 3 hours worth of tidying, she's like a wirlwind.

morethanyoubargainfor · 02/04/2011 08:49

Sadly i am teh messiest in this house, my husband is a neat freak! In my defence though he doesn't clean, he would live in 10 ft of dust as long as it was all tidy on top! Me on the other hand does sparkly clean but messy Grin.

lainep · 02/04/2011 08:53

My 15 year old son who finds it physically impossible to pick anything up!

ProfYaffle · 02/04/2011 09:05

I saw this ad for the first time last night and have to agree with KateMiddleton: "MNHQ I am surprised you've associated yourself with such a cliched, sexist ad campaign" It's appalling

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 02/04/2011 09:35

Erm, we are all exactly the same as each other Blush. All terribly terribly messy. I do the piles of paperwork everywhere that never get filed, DH has a floordrobe and various chairdrobes and DS empties every drawer trying to find the one specific tshirt that he wants to get out!

BadPoet · 02/04/2011 09:36

Goodness, definitely my 7yo daughter. Every inch of floor space in her bedroom is carpeted in little bits of 'things' (lego, Littlest Pet Shop, trinkets and jewellery, stationery) which are all part of an elaborately set up game. My heart sinks when she comes downstairs and asks for string and sellotape so that she can stick or tie things together that weren't designed to go together in order to leave them lying around.

I haven't the heart to stop her as she enjoys her games so much and it's the only time I get any peace. I do object when she trails her destruction throughout the house!

She has 2 trofast units in there with about 15 drawers and they are a lifesaver for quick tidy ups - every so often we go through and categorise them.

rac123 · 02/04/2011 09:43

Time for some honesty! My 3 year old daughter is very good at tidying her toys and books but makes a lot of work for me - tidying up after painting / cooking and creating washing.
My husband is good at dishwasher duties and will put on the odd wash but will not see dust, spider webs or think to change sheets or clean anything without being told.
I do the majority of the household cleaning (and work) but am guilty of throwing my clothes on the floor at night before crawling into bed and now I am 8 months pregant is is not always easy to pick them up again!
I long for a cleaner who would not say "Just tell me what you want to do" as my husband does but could use his/he own eyes and just do it!
Maybe one day ....

weblette · 02/04/2011 09:47

Probably me, followed by ds1, 2 and 3. Dd and dh are complete neat freaks, dd's bedroom is the tidiest in the house.

sdg31000 · 02/04/2011 09:50

I would have to say that my 12 year old son is one of the messiest people on the planet. Admittedly he does have the smallest room in the house, but that doesn't mean that the floor has to be covered in piles of stuff leaving a trail wide enough to walk to his bed. We spent £200 at the start of the year putting up shelves and increasing his storage. They are half empty while the floor piles get deeper.
I go in with a roll of bin bags every couple of months and generally come out again 2 hours later with 4 bags full of rubbish and broken bits and pieces.

sparklemummy · 02/04/2011 09:55

Dh creates the most washing he even stores his dirty clothes in the wardrobe and leaves me to sort them out from the clean ones - normally the whole lot goes back in the wash!

DD1 is the most messiest she will pull out every toy possible and move on to the next room when she's finished ( If i let her!)
Smile

lovecorrie · 02/04/2011 10:04

My eldest daughter who has now luckily left home, was a nightmare! We would regularly scoop everything off her floor and put ithings in a bin bag to go in the dustbin - she would retrieve it and for awhile calm was restored...However, this story really illustrates the depths of her depravity...She had gone away for a few days when she was about 17, and her bedroom door was closed - I had been in and had a cursory tidy up. Later that week, I was in the garden and looked up at her window to see it was looking rather black...I went tin to her room to find an infestation of flies - I mean serious flies! She's left several roting apple cores under her bed! I had to call my husband who works for CSI and he came home, and this is no joke, in his forensic outfit to defumigate it.

I think therefore that she is without a doubt the messiest and most vile teenager to ever have been allowed a bedroom! She's 21 next week incidentally and from what i have gathered from her boyfriend is improving slightly but I'll never forget that sight
