Everyone is welcome, and the thread disappears after 90 days.

Thank you for the last thread @lougle. I hope the doctor was helpful and DD2 isn’t feeling too rubbish this morning.

DS1 has used the last of his EOTAS hours today. There will be at least a few weeks before the EHCP is finalised and funding restarts. He will hopefully have his operation during that time, but it is still going to feel like a long time without that provision.

@Lougle

Thank you. I hadn’t thought of it like that but you’re right. Hopefully better to have the issues at the outset. DC masks outside then catastrophes to me so it becomes a bigger problem trying to talk them down as well as unpicking the issues. I can’t imagine College hasn’t dealt with course changes lots of times before so hopefully it’ll be sorted out.

I’m sorry you’re in the thick of it too. I’m glad the meds arrived for DD2 and are helping. I fo hope the pain resolves and she’s feeling better very soon.

Glad you got DD1 blood tests sorted so quickly. All these little things build up and add to the load.

I’m sorry DD3 is struggling with changes to her timetable and class situation. It’s a hard time of year with all these changes.

Lougle · 16/09/2026 14:00

Today is draining. They couldn't bleed DD1 this morning so I'm taking her up to the hospital phlebotomy department tomorrow morning. I need to speak to DD3's tutor but there's no network and the WhatsApp calls are patchy. DD2 struggled at college, wasn't able to tell the LSA, who was chatting to other LSAs at lunchtime, and so I had to spend 10 minutes convincing her to let me speak to the LSA. She decided she had go home.

This afternoon I have to go back out to the area of DD2's college to take DD1 for an RDA assessment. 3 hours driving today. Not fun.

drspouse · 16/09/2026 14:50

Big hugs for you @Lougle
I am currently trying to do some work but keep being interrupted by DH telling me "did you know your DM had yet another investment... ISA... insurance policy".

Fififizz · 16/09/2026 17:12

@Lougle

Sounds like you’re carrying a lot. And that’s a lot of time driving. I hope the assessment for DD1 went well and that they get the bloods done tomorrow. I have to have a draw bi monthly and it’s a pain when they can’t get it.
Sorry DD2 struggled at College. It’s a difficult time. My DC is thinking about dropping one subject and I’m chill about it. It’s all been a bit much and full on so I empathise with you.

Fififizz · 16/09/2026 17:47

@drspouse

I hope you’re taking really good care of yourself and taking things as steadily as you can.

roaringdragon · 16/09/2026 21:12

@drspouse admin following death seems never-ending. Take care of yourself.

@Fififizz is DC thinking of dropping a subject the result of DC’s discussion with the college today?

@Lougle I’m sorry college didn’t go well for DD2 today. Hopefully, the LSA takes today on board and learns from it. I hope tomorrow’s attempt at bloods is successful and you manage to speak to DD3’s tutor. Did the RDA go well?

This morning I took DS1 swimming. He normally goes swimming on a Wednesday morning as part of his EOTAS package. I decided to pay for a session today. DS1 was really difficult to engage. He was discombobulated by me taking him instead of his HLTAs, even though the swimming staff were the same, and it not being his normal routine.

Sorry things have been difficult @Lougle

Hope you are OK @drspouse

Hope you can find a good solution @Fififizz

Sorry swimming was harder @roaringdragon

Got bath panel delivered today, jacuzzi bath isn't due for 4 weeks but was sent separately and its here and fine. We got new paint, varnish and jif and then DH started planning tiles in the laundry room and I deep cleaned DSs bathroom again and started painting the walls white. DS had left his bathroom wide open again so seems to want me to do work on it.

@drspouse

I am very much trying to. I did not get the contracts I put in for and in some ways I'm glad because it means less admin.
I was supposed to be working all day today but the morning was mainly checking email and going to the gym. I am actually finding the gym quite good for my mood. But I did get stuck into some spreadsheets this afternoon.
I'm not sure we're going to go for Skylight but I made a reusable tick chart for both DC and DD seems pleased.

Lougle · 16/09/2026 21:31

@roaringdragon I'm sure he benefited from it but it's a bit dispiriting when it's all so hard, isn't it?

RDA was...not really what I expected. It was a 30 minute assessment but only lasted 15 minutes. They just wanted to see that DD1 could mount and dismount unaided. She struggled but just about managed. I had to intervene and ask the instructor to use 'First, then' with DD1, so that she did things step by step because she was trying to guess what to do without listening, which is a bit dangerous.

The setup isn't what I expected, either. They only do RDA sessions in groups on a Sunday. But RDA riders can book private lessons through the week. It's £41 for a half hour private lesson, which is probably about average but it's a lot for DD1 to commit to. I'm not sure I want her to start it because we couldn't keep it up on a regular basis and she seems to be doing well with things that happen every week at a set time.

The college SEN lead was very kind to DD2 and reassured her that they understand she's unwell and wants to be there. Today the diclofenac didn't overcome the pain. However, the pain got much worse after taking cocodamol, so I'm wondering if she's having bile duct spasm/sphincter of oddi dysfunction. We're going to avoid codeine. It's all a bit miserable for her.

LathkillDale · 17/09/2026 07:55

@drspouse I hope you are bearing up? It’s hard to work while grief is still so raw. It always seems strange to me, that the most closely bereaved are the ones, who have all the hard work of arranging the funeral, getting probate and clearing the house at the time of maximum grief? (Not that I can see who else would do it)

@roaringdragon ITA with pp, swimming probably did DS good and helped his sleep?

@Lougle - I hope you get to the bottom of DD’s pain eventually. As you know, codeine seems so addictive (and constipating), imo it’s best avoided if possible.

As for those of you, with problems with education settings; best wishes that you’ll be able to sort something out.🥺

Fififizz · 17/09/2026 12:44

@roaringdragon

Yes, drop to two subjects. DC looked into other courses but nothing appeals plus it’s late to change. End of last week was the supposed deadline although College was late enrolling then late, late, enrolling, so it got a bit confusing. Tbh DC seems happy and therefore so am I. If anything DC fancied was available next year they can pick up another subject possibly then. I think for now 2 is enough and we intend to support with tutoring too ourselves.

Sorry the swimming with DS1 wasn’t the experience you’d hoped for. It highlights the importance of routine but sometimes it would be nice if that wasn’t so necessary. I’m discovering I’m very much a creature of routine and get overwhelmed easily now. I think it’s an age/menopause thing.

@drspouse

I hope you can keep on getting to the gym and doing things that support you right now. I found the gym really helped me regulate. It’s gone to pot currently but hoping I will get into a routine and fit it back in again. Sorry to hear about the contracts but it seems like now isn’t the right time for those. Take good care of yourself.

@Lougle

Glad the RDA session went well. You know what’s available and DD1 is more familiar should there come a time when you can fit it in.

So sorry DD2 is struggling so much with pain and feeling miserable. I hope she’s soon feeling better. I’m glad the SEN lead was kind to her and sympathetic.

@LathkillDale
Thank you for your positive wishes.

Fififizz · 17/09/2026 12:46

@Violasilkie

Thank you.

Glad to hear DS is being receptive to the renovation works. You are doing a fantastic job.

roaringdragon · 17/09/2026 14:08

@Lougle I’m sorry yesterday was a day of pain for DD2. Relieved to hear the college is being supportive. I hope today is better pain wise and hearing from college has eased DD2’s worry about her attendance. Before making a decision on riding, it is worth asking the LA to fund. Much cheaper than a residential placement - they may need that pointing out to them.

@Fififizz it sounds like a positive move for DC. I hope the reduced load helps you both.

My DSs need a lot of structure and routine. I also like structure and routine, but sometimes a bit of flexibility &/or spontaneity would be lovely.

Swimming doesn’t help DS1’s sleep, but it helps more generally. It is a session with a mix of normal swimming and hydro/aquatherapy in a normal temp pool, so it is good physio. It is hard to watch the regression the gap in provision is causing.

Thanks @Fififizz I am glad your DS is happy.

Just carrying on with the work here - heard from 2nd plumber and he should come to quote next week, date to be confirmed. Then electrician has been confirmed for next Thursday. Brought worktop into house. DH started trying to cut tiles but found he had bought the wrong tile cutter so took it back to shop to buy upgraded tile cutter and has cut a few tiles and says he's pleased with his new toy. He did noticed his mismeasured second bit of worktop we have leftover from kitchen but that's not urgent and won't hold up anything. DS had shut the downstairs bathroom today but I was tired anyway so quite happy to have a break to do admin side instead and MN. DS has been wandering the garden but did see DH cutting tiles.

Lougle · 17/09/2026 19:31

DD2 managed to do the whole session at college today but is in pain again this evening. I haven't got anything to give her so she's a bit miserable. The college system has sent a message to say that she has to do her extra curriculars, etc., and I've written to the tutor to ask them to back off. She isn't going to join a social group.

A day service that the psychologist recommended asked for more details about DD1 - it's quite depressing when you write it all down and know that it isn't an attractive proposition.

DD3 is exhausted but ok.

drspouse · 18/09/2026 08:14

That's a bit much from the college @Lougle!

DS tried Explorers last night, the hall is literally over the road from us which means when they decided it was time to go he just raced home. It's the same night as Scouts though so we could drop him, drop DD and go out so he knows we aren't in.

LathkillDale · 18/09/2026 09:01

A stressful evening last night, with DD2’s ex ringing me up three times, while in his car to say he can’t cope and never wanted to speak to her again. He wanted to sell the house, and move to a cheaper part of the county. He blocked her on his phone. Apparently, the last straw was she said, he has to wash her clothes separately from hers, because his are contaminated by the cat.

She has another obsession about what can harm the baby! Microplastics - and she doesn’t want the baby to come into contact with any plastic. He’d already bought glass bottles, but now the baby is weaning, she doesn’t want the baby to have plastic utensils. I can’t see what toys the baby is going to play with!

DD2 rang me up at least 6 times, while I was talking to him, complaining he’d stormed out (several times) and she doesn’t know how to sterilise the bottles without him, verging on the hysterical at times. She does know how to use one of their sterilisers, because I’ve been there and seen her do it. I was worried about what she was going to do, on her own, mostly for the baby’s sake.

DD1 is home, so she had to listen to it all, as DH was out at cardiac rehab, which wasn’t ideal, as she’s depressed about all her seizures. When DH got back, he helped her to bed. I told DH, I couldn’t cope with DD2, her ex and DD1, while he did nothing and went to bed. He never wants to deal with “emotional talk” from the DC.

Eventually, the ex came round to our house quite late, and said he was suicidal. I didn’t want him to drive home for the third time at midnight, when he was clearly tired, but he insisted he had to give the baby her medication or else she wouldn’t feed today. DD2 doesn’t know how to mix it up.

I just can’t see any good outcome to all of this, while DD2 thinks she is protecting DGD and there’s nothing wrong with her, she just knows better than us, her ex and the MH HCPs! She is now taking the antipsychotic, but won’t take the antidepressants or methylphenidate, citing breastfeeding!

LathkillDale · 18/09/2026 10:42

typo - he has to wash her clothes separately from his…

drspouse · 18/09/2026 10:45

I'm going to post on the main boards to ask for a second hand Explorer shirt as DS is much more likely to wear one that's been washed multiple times. If anyone spots it can they bump it? Thanks!

Violasilkie · 18/09/2026 10:56

Hope that's resolved @Lougle

That sounds promising @drspouse

Sorry that sounds very tough for everyone @LathkillDale I don't know if this would help but there are lots of lovely wooden toys for babies and young children now as quite a few mothers are rejecting plastic for environmental reasons. I have also seen people on here citing health concerns re plastics though don't know what the risk is and mine had plastics, presumably very low or they would be a ban.

This one has a lovely Wobbly penguin, don't know this company but has some nice toys.

It sounds like him coming and going isn't helping either of them. Obviously he needs to see baby but he seems like he's more involved than that if he's doing her washing and it must be giving mixed messages. Though don't know if she would cope alone with no support.

Lougle · 18/09/2026 12:01

@LathkillDale I can only imagine how hard it is to watch. I hope things improve soon.

DD2 is still unwell. We've just been to the GP and they've referred us back to the SAU, so we'll head over as soon as DH gets back from work.

roaringdragon · 18/09/2026 12:20

@Lougle I’m sorry DD2 is still struggling so much. I hope the SAU can help you get on top of the pain. It is hard seeing/hearing all DC’s difficulties laid out.

@LathkillDale that is tough. Would DD2’s ex moving to a co-parenting role rather than a carer for DD2 role be easier? Leaving aside that it is DD2’s MH driving the decision, I second Viola, there are lots of wooden toys DGD could have.

@drspouse I hope Explorers works and you find a shirt for DS. I only gave DS2&3’s shirts away earlier a couple of months ago. Otherwise, you could have had them. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts worked really well, but Explorers didn’t work for them and after persevering for a long time, we called it a day.

OP posts:
Lougle · 18/09/2026 13:39

BP down a bit and heart rate high, so they're giving her some IV fluids, antibiotics, and antiemetics then waiting for blood results.

LathkillDale · 18/09/2026 15:08

Thanks all for the advice.

@Violasilkie Ex works four and a half days a week. He gets up in the morning, feeds the baby, and goes out to buy DD2’s lunch before he goes to work. While he is at work, DD2 sleeps until 1 pm; then feeds the baby and changes her nappies in the afternoon until ex gets home. She won’t cook for the baby, so ex is weaning the baby. When he gets home from work, he shops for dinner, cooks dinner; does the shopping, laundry, housework, sterilising, all household admin and all childcare including the night feeds.

IMO, it would be exhausting for anyone!

drspouse · 18/09/2026 16:22

Gosh, it sounds like he'd be better off living apart and using childcare for the baby!
