DH took DS and a friend to the park this afternoon, he parked in a disabled bay (DS is ASD and has a blue badge).

When he returned a lady was taking pictures of our car and others so he asked her what she was doing.

she said "im sending these off to the council, they will want to see the photograph on your badge you know".

DH told her to send it off then as he had nothing to worry about, she asked him why and he told her he has 2 children with disabilites both with blue badges, he said she looked at DS and at him and tutted and walked off.

The cheek!!!!

Sorry but have to disagree with you Twiglett.

Yes people who dont have a blue badge shouldnt be parking in disabled bays, but what gives "certain people" and its nearly always the same age group the right to stare at me and my kids and tut because one of my childs disabilities isnt physical? Even though we are clearly displaying a blue badge, theres looking, and theres staring and looking cross and shaking heads.

Thats wrong.

I have challenged people before

and they have always been quite kind about it tbh, especially if they have a badge, because I have done it politely and because they know people abuse it

but I do agree that the tutting and staring types are horrid; people have tutted at me and I have resented it

people have also said quite nicely 'Do you know this is a disabled space?' and then given me the chance to explain I have a badge for my daughter

it is not about minding self policing, it is about minding being treated rudely

As others have said, it is largely the elderly group who seem to think that disabled spaces are for them and them only. I have been confronted once before by an elderly gentleman as I was parked in "his space". With regards to sports cars, I have not yet tried to lift a child into the back of my two door car, but my other car needs a bit of work, so might find out soon. So if anyone sees a huge Lexus pulling into a disabled space then dont assume it is someone abusing the spaces, it might just be me
