DLA WAITING TIMES THREAD 66

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Hi all.
Recieved my childs renewal forms, will be sending back next day signed for tomorrow. His dla lasts until July, does anyone have a rough timescale of how long they will take with the renewal? I'm worried that it won't be done in time as new claims and MRs are taking so long. Which will mean my carers will stop as well as his dla?

What date is your renewal due to end? My son’s claim is due to end 12th July. I sent his form back 3rd march and it was scanned on 4th march. Received confirmation letter it was received a few days ago.

Not sure if this helps but my sons was due to run out in July also, I received the mobility component papers around 3wks ago as he's due to turn 5 in April I sent them signed for delivery they received them on the 10th March and I had a letter in the post this Thursday just gone to say he's been awarded mobility and he's care rate will stay the same until 2027so that was done in under 2 weeks (not sure if it's just because of the mobility papers or not)

Hi what is the VUW rule ?
My son is 3 and awarded high rare but was told as he can walk they didn't give him mobility and he can apply when he's 5. He stuggles with walking no sense of danger at all non verbal and doesnt understanding directions he's in his own little world and just doesn't even acknowledge when we talk to him doesnt respond to his name. Suffers with anxiety when out and about so he won't walk or go in a pushchair. He can't walk up and downstairs and can't climb into the car as he doesn't know how to. Just wondering if I should challenge this or to wait until he's 5.

Mommy2boys30 · 23/03/2025 21:24

@Peaches10 Virtually Unable to Walk, so they look at the distance and time and manner, if physically unable to walk as well as other aspects. My son got awarded HRM when he turned 3 back in August. He got it under this rule due to walking with his eyes closed, I had a lot of professional evidence to support my case. You can challenge it but with what your saying it would be classed as SMI rule which is harder to get but not impossible their is just more to get on the chart flow that decision makers look for. If you think your son deserves it then you can try and if you don't get it then try again when you do your renewal. Hope that helps. My son is on the ASD pathway, non verbal, GDD, sensory issues, eating disorder, going through EHCP, we see CAHMS, SALT, and Paediatricians, he has inclusive provision with nursery which is 1-1 funding, in a clas sof 4 students and 5 adults.

Morning! Start of a new week.

MR 30.09.24. 25 weeks today. I'm going to be annoyed if it's decline again, as I know the information provided was enough to get an award. Sigh.

Morning. Good luck today!!! 25 weeks for us this Friday coming. So this is the week more than likely for us both. Praying it's good news. I've even been dreaming about it this weekend 🌟

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2025 07:11

Good luck, @PSO123! 🤞

What's really frustrating is that DS didn't have an EHCP when he was awarded, and the school was failing to meet his needs, so he didn't get much help from them. They've used the same situation against DD. Decisions are so inconsistent!

Thankfully DS has an EHCP now, so I'm hoping his renewal next year goes OK.

Are you going to ring them today? I'm going to try leave it till tomorrow.... seems they're really pushing the MRs to the day!

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2025 07:55

I'm not ringing at all! If no money appears this week (it's 54 weeks since I first requested the forms!), then I'll assume decline.

Oh you've got more willpower than me. Best of luck! Hoping you get what's deserved 🙏

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2025 08:24

It's just that I can't face another decline on the phone! Once was bad enough.
